Last Light from Colin Rich on Vimeo.
'Last Light' is the story of Los Angeles bearing the brunt of a tempest and the clarity that comes after the storm.
See Los Angeles in rare form.
I spent the better part of two years trying to link together a continuity of weather and light, which proved to be by far the most challenging films I have done to date. For those of you who have lived in Los Angeles, you know that rain, for the most part, is few and far between. Fueled by recent storms, I was able to capture the city in a seldom seen light; torrential rain and dark stormy skies.

PHASED | LA - 12K from SCIENTIFANTASTIC on Vimeo.
Shot by Joe Capra of Scientifantastic.com, PHASED | LA was shot natively in 12K resolution entirely on the Phase One XF IQ3 100 megapixel camera . That is three times the resolution of existing 4K Ultra HD content, and each and every single frame of this film is 100 megapixels. With the latest software update to the XF system Phase One added a new timelapse mode which allows users to easily shoot extreme resolution timelapses. Having the ability to shoot in such extreme resolution allows you much more creative freedom and flexibility in post production, and this film's purpose is to demonstrate that. You can punch in extremely far into a scene while maintaining massive amounts of detail.

'City Lights' is the final chapter from my "Trilogy of Light" series that began a couple years ago with 'LA Light' and then followed up with 'Nightfall'. It was an nightly adventure that took me to almost every angle of Los Angeles. It was an exercise in patience. A lesson in light. An understanding of what it is to live amongst each other and to understand the system and order of a city, the seemingly complex organics that make it up and the life form that the city truly is. A visualization of sonder. It was a daily jaunt to watch the arterial freeway systems pump car cells through its body and channel them to the capillaric avenues that are our neighborhoods and homes. It was a chance to break away from the 70mph freeway perspective and to observe the sun slip from view and watch the electric dance of nightfall begin. It was challenging. It was frustrating. Definitely dangerous at times. Sometimes it hurt. I was chased. Yelled at. Warned. But the overall context of things learned, people met, things seen, and places discovered over the past three years shaped who I am today. I didn't always love Los Angeles but I learned to and discovered that this city is much more than temperate weather, palm trees, pretty girls, and beaches; to me the true beauty behind the city lies hidden on the other end of a rusted fire escape to a view no one else has seen.
I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my film making career where I will be concentrating on narrative and documentary films.
Thanks for watching, reading, and supporting my films.
Cheers, Colin
I will be running a limited series of high quality Kodak Endura VC metallic prints based on each series of shots. If you are interested in purchasing them, please email me at [email protected] with the shot (timecode).

LaforetAIR Los Angeles from Vincent Laforet on Vimeo.
For more information go to: LaforetAIR.com
AIR is a project born of my need to share an important lesson I’ve discovered over the past decade making aerial photographs: the world is much smaller than we think. Borders are irrelevant and distances shortened. Clearly, we are more intimately connected to one another than we may realize. AIR is a once a lifetime experience for our team and I’d like to pay that passion and excitement forward with as many of you as possible. I chose the title AIR because it’s something we all share and are all equally responsible for. By definition AIR doesn’t belong to anyone. It belongs to us all regardless of background, social status and origin, as does this project. I want to invite you to share your stories and come together at a series of meet ups* we are organizing in each new city that we travel to thanks to everyone one of you who has supported AIR and a few visionary sponsors* (including G-Tech & Storehouse) who have helped this project take flight. I sincerely hope you will share in the joy of AIR. I hope these images make you smile, or think, or feel for just a moment a little more connected to somebody you’ve yet to meet. Please spread this experience with others. Will you take the next step and become directly involved in telling your stories of your cities? A few of you will be invited to fly with us over your cities and many of you will be invited to join us for pre-flight meet ups in each city that we visit, this project will reach its full potential only once you share YOUR stories about your lives, those close to you, and your city with others around the world. Finally, you always have the option to directly support the project by visiting the store on this site as the majority of those funds will directly go towards helping us visit more cities and continue to share Air with with everyone. If you made it this far, I guess I can safely say: Welcome aboard to project AIR! Sincerely - Vincent Laforet

Downtown Los Angeles from Ian Wood on Vimeo.
Above the grit and noise of the street, downtown Los Angeles quietly provides some of the most amazing visual detail in its buildings and public art works. This is a selection of those buildings and public arts filmed across some 50 different locations in the immediate downtown area and the arts district. There are many many more locations that are not included and are equally if not more impressive.
Some of the buildings are in disrepair, some have been restored to their full glory while others have been transformed into artworks. In all of them, there is character, color and detail that makes the area a never-ending source of intrigue.

A note about aerial filming, safety and best practices. These shots were obtained with a lightweight remote controlled quad-copter and camera system. The following measures were in place during the filming:
- Following all applicable FAA regulations (the ones that actually exist). - Avoiding controlled airspace and TFR restricted airspace. - Staying below 400ft AGL. - Avoiding any and all air traffic, airways, airports, etc. - Maintaining awareness for helicopter traffic and proximity to helipads. - Flying just above or along rooflines to stay out of usable airspace for helicopters. - Maintaining visual LOS to the quad-copter at all times. - Shooting mostly during early morning when possible to avoid crowds and traffic. - Not directly overflying groups of people. - Being sure to have direct ability to alert any people nearby in case of potential incident. - Being prepared to ditch in order to prevent injury or accident. - Maintaining a minimum height of 100ft above any private property. - Deleting any shots inadvertently revealing private activities or people in a place of privacy.

This is compilation of hyperlapse videos that I shot over the course of the past 2 years. I spent a lot of time scouting for locations, waiting for the perfect conditions, and catching the beauty of the city. Lighting is important. Sunrises, sunsets; transitions from dawn to day, and from dusk to dark. I used a lot of self-developed tricks and techniques in both the shooting and editing processes - it took a lot of time and passion to make this video.
Looking for a LA based production company to collaborate with.
I do personal trainings for hyperlapse/timelapse shooting and editing.
For all questions and inquires; email me: [email protected]

Los Angeles from Ian Wood on Vimeo.
This is the city-wide follow up to my aerial exploration of downtown Los Angeles from last year (vimeo.com/101231747). And much like with downtown, I continue to be awe struck by how much of this vast city I have partially or completely overlooked before undertaking this video. And like most voyages of discovery, I've realize there’s so much more to find.
Packing it all into one short-form video has been nigh impossible and much didn’t make it for safety, privacy or simply because I couldn't make it 30 minutes long! Notably missing are: LAX Theme Building, both Gettys, some Lautner homes, numerous beautiful buildings, the Gabba gallery, many murals that vanished before I got to them, and much of downtown featured in last year’s video.
A map of the locations is here: goo.gl/f4fq3U
The music is BLu ACiD’s electro-blues adaptation of “If You Ain’t Never Had The Blues” by Boo Boo Davis and is used with permission. I felt it fitting to a city of eclectic styles and influences, equal parts refined and rough edges. The version used here is my own extended edit. Download the original song here: itunes.apple.com/us/album/if-you-aint-never-had-the-blues/id1006196698?i=1006197030

Droning For Good With all the controversy about drones, it’s important to remember that they can be (and often are) used responsibly. As with many emerging technologies, the laws struggle to keep up and we must employ a common sense approach to their use that is respectful to community, safety and the law.
My Drone Protocol - Avoid busy periods, rush hours, special events, etc. - Avoid sensitive areas or anything that can be misconstrued without prior permission. - Avoid crowds. Small groups only from the periphery with ground spotters and two-way radios. - No flights near airports, TFR areas and restricted airspace (FAA class B, C, D). - Be prepared for local air traffic below 400ft including awareness of helipad locations. - Operate at or below roof lines to assure separation from air traffic. - Avoid “loitering" next to residential homes and apts. - Respect residential areas for quiet and right to privacy. - Eliminate any material that inadvertently reveals someone in a place of privacy.

Hole Hearted
I see your dance in your Scopes, your gleam in your Facebook and Instagram posts, your missives tapped into Tumblr, and it’s like we never parted. I feel you in my every heartbeat, my every breath. You truly are my soul mate, with the way we giggle over each other’s creative achievements and cry when each has sorrow. I miss you, Los Angeles.
