Eli can clearly tell from his expression that he's not buying her attempt at subtlety. She tries to clear her panicked features, at least soften them into her usual complacent look, but she can't seem the shake the shock that accompanies this stranger.
He'd never had a name before. He'd never had a name, and yet... Lucas. Who was he? She swallows, blinking a couple times as if to focus her thoughts, and tries her best to remember what exactly her name is. "Eli."

Yeah... what is it that you do here? I'm not saying that I just wandered in aimlessly, but that's basically what happened.
Not saying you do, but .. if you need directions, I could definitely give you some. Usually normal having no one visit than someone, y’know. Considering what we do here.

+open | coffee shop
Eli had always a thing for coffee shops. Maybe it was the moment they seemed to carve out in busy, ever kinetic time, the way the fluid movement of customers in and chairs left vacant still managed to feel still and calm, a place where you only brought the one or two necessary troubles with you when you crossed the threshold.
Or maybe it was the sense of connection, the hum of heartbeats at work, pens scratching against papers and fingers tapping away at laptops, using precious time and community motivation to crunch out a few pages of their project, or their novel, or their Facebook stalking endeavors.
Or maybe it was the slow dependency on coffee Eli had formed over the last few dwindling years of her life. All were plausible.
Regardless of what the appeal was, when she didn't know where to go or what to do, she always found herself in a cozy little coffee shop, ordering something hot to combat the cold breeze of the indoor AC. Pulling her cardigan around her frame, she took a seat at an empty table near the pick-up so that she wouldn't have to crane her head to see if her drink was ready, and waited.

Everything was just as she remembered it. From the hair to the stature down to that damn smile, everything was exactly the same. But that was literally impossible. He didn't exist. He didn't exist. He didn't...
She knew she needed to calm down. She was probably weirding the fuck out of this stranger, for Christ's sake. If she collected herself, she could make out a few normal words, rather than standing here with this scarred expression on her face, eyes holding some unfathomable depth within them. She could say something normal like...
"Who are you?"
There you go. She thought with an internal cringe, her own heartbeat reverberating in her head. Really normal, Eli. Way to pull it off.

Eli smelled the cigarette smoke before anything else, and crinkled her nose as the smell came wafting towards her. It wasn't some she found particularly pleasant, but it was bearable. She debating just continuing walking, but considering how empty the street was at this hour, her curiosity got the best of her and she turned around to face the...
No.
She faced the stranger - but was he a stranger? - with wide, disbelieving eyes, trained on him as he walked. There were plenty of words out there to describe him, but only one cropped up and made the cut: impossible.

Eli walked along the town road, just a stop along the way. She wasn't sure what exactly drew her out of town, but she knew she couldn't stay in the city any longer, and the present seemed as good a time as any to get away. But the was just a stop, a meandering excuse for fresh air and window shopping before she was on her way.
But then again, excuses only go so far. Anything could happen.
#short ass starter because blog hopping#fuckthislonewolfbullshit:lucas#i left this shit really ambiguous too you're welcome
