The idea of spontaneously getting on a train and going somewhere far might be romantic in another country but England is too small for that. Pull an Eternal Sunshine and go where? Fucking Slough? Go to fucking Slough and get a fucking boots meal deal?

shoutout to nonbinary people who default to presenting as their assigned gender bc it’s easier
shoutout to nonbinary people who default to presenting as their assigned gender bc it’s safer
shoutout to nonbinary people who default to presenting as their assigned gender bc they don’t feel like they can pull off anything else
shoutout to nonbinary people who default to presenting as their assigned gender bc presenting as their real gender is impossible
shoutout to nonbinary people who present as their assigned gender bc they want to
shoutout to nonbinary people whose presentation is mistaken for their assigned gender but is in fact how they express their real gender
just because we might “look cis” doesn’t make us any less nonbinary and tbh fuck anyone who says otherwise

Demons and monsters that torture people because they feed on human suffering are so dumb. People are suffering everywhere my guy go literally any place and take a deep whiff.

So I've been thinking about a discussion over on the Discworld reddit recently
Basically someone was like 'Discworld has become my go to cosy read'
And someone was like 'Disword isn't cosy it's actually very satirical and can be quite scathing and not escapist fluff'
But to me I would also class Discworld a cosy/comforting read.
And I think the fact the series does go to some pretty dark places is part of why I find it comforting, because Discworld doesn't shy away from the fact that bad things happen and you have to just get on with it and the fact it's full of characters who are often kind of fed up with everything but still go and do the Right Thing anyway even if it's hard and I actually find that more comforting than if it was like 'Oh nothing bad ever happens' setting.

discworld is very cosy for me. or rather, its satisfying, comforting
because yes it's realistic about people and isn't idealistic about how they think and behave
but it also shows that things can change, and change for the better, and that justice can be served
and its not always in a way the way we expect
but these books always have a happy ending
not just for the people involved in the story but more importantly for the state of the world.
i often think about how Vimes didn't think anything much about the goblin head above that pub at the beginning of Snuff. and how later in the story when he changed his views and befriended a goblin he not only went down there with fury and violence but spent the rest of his time making sure goblins would have their rights insured. and its sooo satisfying and cathartic to read. he made sure they could fight for themselves and no longer be exploited and killed by the rich landowners. the story ends on a very hopeful note that now the normal and common thing is to treat goblins as people, not pests, not monsters. and yes, there are still racists in the world but their opinion is no longer accepted as the norm
(The more satirical and dark part of the book comes in when discussing how people were convinced to treat goblins right: they could make art and music that impressed the upper class, and they could work - good with machinery. so: impressive and useful. they are integrated into society in a very capitalistic fashion and prachett comments on that - they HAD to be impressive. they HAD to be useful. i feel like this is the darker commentary that comes from pratchett.)
people seem to think that realism has to be dark and depressing but terry pratchett makes it hopeful. its a power fantasy that people can change their minds if you just do the right things, expose the right politicians, arrest the rich evil person, talk to the people on the streets or just treat others as equals.
but i think we need this kind of power fantasy right now. i think this is a powerfull impulse to have and to keep. its HOPE
and right now hope feels very comforting to me

Me: *agonizing over whether a semicolon goes here, what the proper dialogue should be there, other assorted rules and semantics*
Terry Pratchett: "!" said the stranger.

Czech music class at elementary featured such iconic songs, such as:
a guy saving a broken angel from the ruins of a church, helping them rise again
the cryptid at Moravia’s bog
a guy being hanged for drunkenly getting into fights
a madman’s lullaby
a man wanting to kill his goat
a guy who killed two men and committed suicide after burying them
three lemons surviving a boat crash
the US’ civil war and about the nonsense of warfare
a wildfire
a horse falling in love
the existential crisis of growing up and the never ending flow of time
