The Death of Sound

Main Cast: Ft: Nazir King, Raya Costello, Oso Costello, Ayumi Wada, Elias King, Kiya King (Maybe Naija?)

Status: Brainstorming / Backbone

Oso was hardly ever home. He never seemed to have any concern for what his daughter needed or was up to, and that feeling was mutual between them. Raya never felt like she had parents. She was doing for herself for as long as she could remember. if necessary, she could probably pick her father out of a line up but the same couldn't be said of her mother. She'd never even seen so much of a picture of her, and at times she wondered if the woman ever existed at all.

The house Raya grew up in was small and always seemed to be filthy. and most of the time the lights or water was shut off. The only thing that stayed clean was the splintered wood coffee table where Oso prepared whatever cocktail of drugs he was on that week.

Everything changed once Raya was about 14. Suddenly Oso stopped going out altogether. He said it was too dangerous for him to be anywhere but the house. He now spent most of his time pacing around the front room and peeking out the windows while continuing to snort, shoot, and smoke whatever he could get his hands on. He was always terrified that "they" were going to come for him one day now that "he" was gone. Whatever that meant.

(^More will be explained in Chana and Waylon's story)

It didn't take long for this new attitude to turn into full blown paranoia. And violence. Raya often found herself on the receiving end of his rage now, and it seemed to be becoming a daily occurrence. Oso's behavior escalated quickly. The subtle insults turned to outright berating comments, which turned into beatings, and soon he began acting entitled to her body. Raya began to fear for her safety, so she started volunteering at the local animal shelter just to keep her out of the home. It's here that she met her first friend, Ayumi Wada. Lucky for her, they happened to go to the same school, and Ayumi was only a grade above her. (Ayumi is 16 but was held back due to what happens in her own story**) The girls became inseparable. They were no longer the quiet kids in class that kept their noses pushed in books. Having each other to lean on gave them both a confidence they had never experienced before, and soon they actually became pretty popular. They didn't understand why the other kids seemed to be so drawn to them, but it was nice to be given some positive attention for a change. Instead of spending their time after school to meet up in the art room, they were being invited to smoke weed with the older kids. Next thing they knew, they're being invited to a new party spot every weekend.

Soon, Raya's house became the most popular spot for crazy parties, and Oso loved the new traffic of clientele keeping him in business. One day after a particularly rowdy party Ayumi asked if she could crash there. Raya was secretly relieved. Maybe Oso wouldn't come into her room that night if Ayumi was there. Unfortunately, Ayumi being there didn't stop him from trying. Around 3am Oso stumbled into his daughter's room, as he usually did, and made his way over to her bed where the 2 girls were cuddled close under a thick blanket. He couldn't tell, but Ayumi's eyes were open, and she was watching him carefully. She watched him run his fingers down Raya's side and down to her hips, and she watched as he unzipped his pants and leaned over his daughter. She felt herself fill with shock and rage, and before Oso could make another move his body was flung like a ragdoll out of the room, and the door slammed behind him. She could hear him yelp as he crashed into some furniture in the front room. A few moments later he was back on his feet and trying to open the door again, but now it seemed to be locked despite not having that mechanism installed on it. He desperately tried to jiggle the handle and even slam his broad shoulders against the door repetitively, but it just wouldn't budge. For that night, they were protected.

"Are you a witch?" Raya asked as tears slowly rolled down her cheeks. Ayumi shook her head. "Fairy" she said plainly as she wiped the tears away.

Ayumi confessed to Raya that she had been kicked out of her home years ago when her mother found out that she liked other girls. Ayumi said she ended up in the Sylvian Glade where she was taken in and raised by the fairies that lived there. She insisted that she was not homeless per sey, but she didn't really have a proper house. She slept in what was basically a bird house. She said the fairies had been good to her, and she was always grateful and humbled by what they did for her, and so one day they granted her wish of becoming a fairy herself.

Ayumi asked Raya how often Oso comes into her bedroom at night. Raya shrugged meekly. "Every night" she said, emotionless. At this point it was normal. She obviously didn't enjoy what Oso did to her, but at the same time, it had all become very normalized for her. Ayumi nodded, thoughts clearly swirling around her head. It was as if, in that moment, Raya watched the decision be made in Ayumi's mind. From that day forward, Ayumi never left her alone again.

That morning Ayumi took Raya to the Sylvian Glade so they could retrieve her little bird house. While they were there Raya was able to meet the main Guardians of the realm. Raya was so overcome with wonder and amazement. She asked if she too could become a fairy. With Ayumi there backing her, the fairies were more than willing to grant the girl's wish. The girls spent the day practicing how to fly and how to do simple but effective defensive magic. Raya left the Sylvian Glade with a newfound sense of self-assurance. She knew Oso would never lay another hand on her now.

And he didn't.

About a year later, one day at the shelter, a gorgeous kerry blue terrier puppy was admitted after being found beaten and left to drown in a trash bag tossed in the ocean of Evergreen Harbor. When animal control came to retrieve the dog, they found the remains of a whole litter of kerry blues that unfortunately didn't make it. The woman who called animal control said that there was a husky by the river as well, and that her son had watched the husky pull the bag from the river. She said that by the time the boy made it over to them the husky had already ripped a hole in the bag and was trying to help the puppies inside, but there was only 1 still alive at that point. Animal control was able to bring both dogs back to the shelter.

Raya couldn't help her reaction to the story, she broke down right there and hugged the puppy to her chest. The puppy had some minor injuries and a broken leg, but otherwise was completely okay. The puppy, Aerith, had to stay on the medical unit for about 2 months and Raya made sure to visit her daily. In that time as well, Ayumi found herself growing closer and closer to the husky, now called Tidus. Raya seemed to really thrive during this time.

Many sims showed interest in the dogs over the next 6 months, but the girls insisted that the dogs be adopted out together as they had also grown very close. Only 1 sim was willing to take on both dogs. The girls said their goodbyes and were happy that the dogs now had a home, but they were absolutely devastated by their absence around the shelter. By that point the 2 dogs felt more like employees with how they stayed in perfect heels behind the girls or were more than willing to perform tasks around the shelter. Its like each dog had grown a 6th sense in regards to the girls; it was like they could read their minds and always knew exactly how to help each girl when they needed it most - especially after long or difficult days at school or times where Oso was particularly abrasive. On the 3rd day of the dogs being gone Raya had a complete meltdown in one of the shelter bathrooms. She didn't even know how much she had grown to trust and rely on Aerith just to get her through the day. Just seeing her little black face seemed to clear her mind of any pain she harbored, but now she was gone. Raya had to keep reminding herself that the dogs were lucky to be adopted, even if it hurt her to see them go. Raya cried every day for 3 weeks straight. She couldn't help herself. Even Ayumi wasn't enough to help Raya stay composed. In this time Raya began exhibiting extreme symptoms of what seemed to be some sort of PTSD. The weekend parties started to become dangerous. They were no longer about having fun, it now seemed like Raya just wanted to inhale as many drugs as possible so she could go numb. Then she'd pass out somewhere and be lucky if Ayumi found her before Oso or someone else did.

One night Raya had gone overboard. The last thing she remembered was taking a handful of MDMA amongst other things and climbing out of her window and onto her roof. She remembered seeing a boy standing outside smoking a joint and watching him turn around to look up at her. She remembers thinking that he was absolutely beautiful, with a glorious mohawk. Apparently, he climbed up onto the roof too and they spent the night talking while Ayumi was inside trying to hold down the party. (Ayumi checked on them throughout the night, everything seemed to be fine every time)

She was horrified to find out that she had trauma dumped ALL over this boy who's name she didn't even know. Her whole life story. Everything Oso put her through since she was young. Everything. She told him how much seeing the dog every day seemed to soothe her soul and keep her grounded. She remembered him asking her if she had considered getting a Service Dog?

2 months later, Raya was outside the shelter cleaning the yard when she heard a familiar bark. Before she could turn all the way around a blur of black came and knocked her to the ground. Ayumi stood in the doorway with a smile as she watched Raya light up like the Eiffel tower. "Aerith!? Is this Aerith?!" Raya called out as she tried to get the dog to hold still long enough for her to look at her face. Raya looked over to Ayumi and saw Tidus by her feet. "What happened?" Raya asked.

"Their owner said all they did was cry. He said he gave it the 3 months thinking they would calm down at some point but all they did was cry by the door." Ayumi told her.

It didn't take long for depression to wash over Raya. "Are we going to have them adopted out together again? I thought having them together would make it easier for them to adjust."

"I think we should keep them together still." Ayumi answered.

That night Ayumi visited the Sylvian Glade and begged the guardians for a huge favor.

The next afternoon, to Raya's surprise, Oso walked into the shelter. "I'd like to adopt 2 dogs" he said.

Raya spent the next year training Aerith to be her service dog. Having Aerith by her side tremendously helped with reducing Raya's emotional dysregulation and PTSD symptoms. Training Aerith meant that Raya had to study herself and pay close attention to what triggers her and what makes her react in certain ways. It forced her to come to terms with how her father's abuse actually affected her and wasn't just something she could ignore. (A/N: Should probably do a better job showing her symptoms leading up to now)

Ayumi never directly told Raya what she'd done exactly, but Raya knew she had something to do with how Oso was acting the day he came to the shelter. Raya assumed it was some fae spell, but it was actually deeper than that and left Ayumi pretty lethargic and sick for quite a while. She often found herself bedridden and unable to do much. It was now Raya's turn to take care of her. Raya trained Tidus to be able to do tasks for when Raya wasn't able to. Ayumi would later go on to be diagnosed with [some chronic non-lethal disorder]

This only helped the girls grow closer. While Ayumi was bed-bound she began to ask herself why she would sacrifice so much just to help Raya. She questioned her feeling towards Raya. Was she in love? She didn't really want to do anything sexual with her. But she knew she meant the world to her.

Ayumi was sick until the end of the school year. (She got lots of love from school people while she was out) The weekend parties stopped during her recovery, but now that she was back on her feet the girls wanted to do something big. They told their usual guests to invite as many people as they could, and to bring some sort of substance so there'd be enough to go around. The party was also to celebrate the beginning of summer break. Even the kids with strict parents would be able to come.

It seemed like every teenager in the world came this time. A lot of people actually brought gifts for Ayumi. Ayumi never felt more loved and appreciated in her life. She spent a lot of the night wiping tears of joy from her eyes.

Raya got completely fucked up. Secretly, she was really praying that that boy with the mohawk would show up again. She assumed he wasn't a local since she'd only seen him that one time despite having thrown hundreds of parties at this point. Despite Aerith's protesting, Raya climbed on top of her roof. She just wanted to see if she would see him. No luck. She climbed down and went back inside. She took some MDMA and LSD in an attempt to avoid the disappointment she felt. She checked on her guests and refilled the beer keg. She looked around and saw Ayumi having the time of her life. She decided that was more rewarding than seeing the boy with the mohawk.

Until she ran into the boy with the mohawk.

He was a little older now, and puberty served him well. He was still absolutely beautiful, but more mature looking with a gorgeous jawline. She didn't even realize she was staring until he spoke.

"Hey, its Raya, right?"

She nodded. She was so embarrassed that she didn't know his name at all, and she didn't want to ask either. She hoped it would come up naturally.

He was looking at her with such a lovely smile on his face. She swore his eyes were sparkling like diamonds, hypnotizing her and lulling her into a sense of nirvana.

"How come I haven't seen you in so long?" She felt like their voices echoed back and forth as they spoke. The music danced out from the speakers as colored circles and bounced all around the room. She thought she saw one land on the boy's head like a halo.

It was then she realized how much she was tripping. Her heart dropped. Had she taken too much? She felt Aerith come and sit by her side. She felt a panic attack coming on.

"Nazir!" another boy shouted from the other side of the room. The boy turned to look at the person speaking to him. "You gonna come smoke this with us?"

"Nazir?" Na-zeeer. Naaaaa-zeeeeeeer." Raya repeated the name in her head over and over. If she remembered nothing else from tonight, she was going to make sure his name was etched into her mind. She could feel her cheeks getting hot. The name was as beautiful as he was.

"Hey you wanna come smoke with me and my brother?" Nazir asked her hopefully, putting a hand on her shoulder. Starstruck, she nodded and followed him out of the house and to his very, very, expensive looking car parked out front. She sat in the back with Nazir. She learned that the other boy was named Amari, and that he was only a year younger than Nazir. The 3 of them had a good enough time, but it became clear pretty quickly that Amari had somehow become the 3rd wheel to his own smoke session. It was like Raya and Nazir had locked eyes and all they saw was each other. They didn't even notice when Amari left the car to return to the party.

Raya also didn't realize how close she was sitting to Nazir. His arm was around her shoulders and her legs were over his lap. She put her hand on his chest, and he kept his hand on her thigh for balance. The chemistry between them was undeniable. She felt like nothing else in the world existed but him. She could tell he was tripping just as hard as she was. She honestly never wanted the moment to end.

She woke up in her bed the next morning having no recollection of when and how she got there. She felt arms wrapped around her and a body pressed against her back. She assumed it was Ayumi until she realized there were no boobs pressed against her. She opened her eyes and saw Ayumi sleeping peacefully in her own bed, surrounded by gifts and flowers and plushies. Raya was almost afraid to investigate who was in her bed. She prayed that it wasn't Oso, though it certainly didn't smell like him.

She twisted her neck to get a look at the person playing Big Spoon in their arrangement. Her heart nearly stopped when she saw Nazir laying there, sleeping soundly with what she swore was a smile on his face. She then lifted the blankets to see if they still had their clothes on. She was shocked to see they did.

Her room soon filled with the smell of maple sausage being cooked on the stove. Curious, considering her oven hadn't worked in years. Did Oso fix it? Was he out there cooking? She assumed she was still dreaming and laid her head back down on the pillow.

A while later someone knocked gently on the door. "Hey" she said in a sort of whispered yell. She felt Nazir shift a bit and her heart skipped. She really never wanted him to let her go.

Amari opened the door gently and peaked inside. "Hey, I hope you don't mind? I fixed your oven and made breakfast for everyone. Is there a time you need us out of here? I'm in the middle of fixing the frig..."

"You could literally move in and her dad wouldn't notice" Ayumi said sleepily as she stretched out her arms. She looked over to Raya and Nazir and smiled at them. "Well well well!" she joked.

"Shh, please don't wake him. He's so warm..." Raya's whole face turned red. "I don't even think we did anything anyway Ayumi"

"You didn't" Ayumi said as she pulled the blankets off herself and began to get up. You two kept blabbing on and on about 'not soiling this perfect moment' ... you guys must have been tripping hard cause dear god was your conversation just so over the top and sappy. Promising to be together forever and shit." Ayumi rolled her eyes "I thought it was funny considering you've only met like twice and probably don't even know each other's last names."

The way Ayumi spoke sounded like it was meant to be a joke, but there seemed to be an undercurrent of venom in her words. It made Raya uncomfortable, but she thought it'd best to ignore it. Amari seemed to pick up the same vibe. "Well, I'ma get back to doing what I was doing then..." he said awkwardly before slipping away from the door.

"My last name is King." Nazir said and pulled Raya closer to him.

She giggled and felt her heart flutter. "My last name is Costello."

The two of them began staring into each other's eyes again. Ayumi rolled hers and left the room.

"I don't know why she's being weird" Raya said to Nazir, who couldnt seem to care less.

Naota King

(There's not too much to Naota's story but he's one of my favorite sims!)

Naota's story is unfortunately one that too many LGBT youth can relate to. When he was a teenager, Naota's parents had grown suspicious of him. They didn't like that he preferred clothes from the men's section instead of the women's. They didn't like how he would try to lower the pitch of his voice when he spoke. And they absolutely lost their shit when he cut his hair short. Naota lied and said there was nothing deeper going on, but his parents didn't buy it. One day when Naota was 14, his parents raided his room while he was hanging at the mall with some friends. They found his chest binder, his packy, and books about gender dysphoria. When Naota came back home that night all of his stuff was sitting in trash bags by the door. His siblings did their best not to make eye contact with him as he dragged the bags out the door. His older brother sent him a text about an hour later. "See if you can find Ayumi. She's our sister. I think she's in Willow Creek. Mom and Dad kicked her out a long time ago when they found out she likes girls. Sorry we couldnt help you, you know how mom and dad are. Take care of yourself. I hope Ayumi has a place you can crash at."

That was the last time Naota ever heard from that side of the family.

He sold a lot of the stuff he had in order to make his way to Willow Creek. It was weighing him down anyway. In his effort to find this long lost sister of his, Naota stumbled across a weird tree. He sat under it just to rest for a bit, and woke up in a strange clearing in some woods. There were fairys everywhere. They seemed to be expecting him.

The fairys were good to Naota. He didn't even have to tell them that he was struggling with his gender identity. They seemed to pick up on everything without being told, and they always addressed him as a male even when he very much looked and sounded like a girl. He'd never felt so seen in his life. He soon learned that this place was called the Sylvian Glade, and this was the home to the fae folk. They taught him everything there was to know about becoming a fairy, and how to utilize nature's magic to help him in this life. He soon was honored with the opportunity to meet with the sprites of the Sylvian Glade. Impressed by him, they granted his wish of becoming a full fledged fairy. They said his sister had done the same when she was his age.

One day when Naota was 15 he ran into Isaiah and Josiah King at the park by the same tree he now knew as the portal to his home. The boys were identical twins, so that drew his attention immediately. Plus they were both gorgeous with shoulder length hair and both dressed like eccentrics. They both held cameras too, they seemed to be shooting some sort of DIY movie. He sat and watched them for a bit until they seemed to notice him staring. He was embarrassed but he couldn't help himself. Even though they were identical, Naota could tell them apart very quickly. Josiah was the one who sent chills down his spine when they made eye contact.

The three of them really hit it off. Naota loved being in the twin's films. He just couldn't get enough of Josiah. In just a few months, he was absolutely in love. He knew that the twins were gay, but he thought maybe Josiah saw him as a real man and wouldn't turn him down if he asked him on a date. Fortunately for him, Josiah never saw him as anything but male. They agreed to date, and Josiah figured it was a good time to introduce Naota to his parents, the King and Queen.

Elijah and Candy absolutely adored Naota the second they met him. He couldn't believe that he was sitting in this giant house meeting literal royalty. This boy that he's in love with is a fucking Prince? And not only that, but when they found out he was staying in the Sylvian Glade because his parents kicked him out, they insisted that he move into their home. They were outraged by what his parents had done. They showed him a sort of compassion that he desperately wanted from his own family. In that moment, for the first time in 2 years of being homeless, he felt safe. Josiah's older brothers Nazir and Amari had already moved out so Elijah said he could have 1 of their rooms. Nazir's was dark and creepy but Amari's was cool and littered with science stuff, so Naota chose that one. The first night he spent in that giant bed alone was surreal. Just the day before he was sleeping in a tree, and now he's sleeps in a big ass room in a royal palace. And Josiah's little sister Tziporah had been so sweet to him. She was still little, but she told him she's got his back if he ever needs anything. Naota was blown away by how welcoming the King family was to him.

And in time, Elijah and Candy helped him to find a therapist and get on HRT. They supported him every step of the way, and were there for him when he got top surgery at 17. They even paid for everything.

Nazir came home one day to visit his parents, and with him he had his son Elias, baby mama Raya, and another girl that looked an awful lot like Naota's mother. She kept stating at him whoever they passed each other. Later that evening she cornered him in the living room when nobody else was around. She asked him what his last name is. He told her Wada. She cocked her head to the side and asked if he had ever gone by a different name. He was unsure what to say. She asked him if his parents were () and () and if he was from Japan. He hesitantly nodded his head. "I'm your sister" she finally said. "Did they kick you out too?"

Years later, the twins were really committed to becoming actors. By this point they had built up a huge following online due to their films and videos. They were proper e-celebrities. One day they met a man named Zackery at some Hollywood party, and Zackery convinced the twins to come move into their mansion so they could have access to better opportunities. They had connects in high places and promised them the world on a silver platter. The twins agreed, but only if they could bring Naota and Isaiah's fiancee Waylon along with them. And Waylon's twin sister Chana too. Zackery had no problem with this and helped everyone move in later that week. They said all the twins have to do is keep making their videos.

Like was beautiful for Naota for a long long time after moving to Del Sol Valley. He and Josiah got married and had an amazing wedding before going on to welcome 3 kids into their lives: Tristan, Kiaan, and Emmitt. Isaiah and Waylon had twins of their own, Illya and Ezio, and Chana had "adopted" a boy named Stephen. Zackery was abducted and brought home a baby boy, Raheem, that he had 0 interest in raising so his sister Nyla decided to adopt him. It was nice having a home full of kids that got to grow up together as one giant family. But then they found out the truth about the mansion.

Zackery and Nyla were aliens. They were frauds. They did not own the mansion they were living in, and the only reason they wanted the twins in their home was to record them unknowingly. The found out that the aliens basically brought them here to be some sort of sick Big Brother tv show for the aliens on their home planet. The city was threatening to take their mansion. There was a lot of fighting in the home. By now, Isaiah and Josiah were pretty big movie stars and all of this chaos was horrible PR for them. People no longer trusted them and thought having them on their sets was too risky, and that the aliens were still tracking them somehow. The twins were at each other's throats. Waylon and Isaiah had their first physical fight. Things were a mess.

With help from Elijah and Candy, the twins were able to keep the mansion. The aliens were kicked out and a professional team was hired to ensure there were no more secret devices hanging around. The show was officially cancelled. And since they never owned any rights to the mansion, the aliens were kicked out. Naota still regrets having to see Raheem leave. He felt like he was doing what his parents did to him, but ultimately it wasn't his call. He mostly felt bad that his kids would no longer get to see someone who was like a brother to them. They havnt seen Raheem since that day. The King and Queen gave a speech on behalf of their sons, urging people to understand that they were victims in the situation and pleased for Hollywood to reconsider how they were treating them. It seemed to work, and soon the twin's careers were back on track.

After all that happened, and after the kids got older and moved to the mansion next door, Naota finds himself a little lost in life. He wonders what his next step will be. He wants to do something that actually matters. But what can he do? And now he's pregnant. GREAT 😭

Naota actually ended up suffering a miscarriage. It would have been a little girl named Vivian. The family is mourning the loss, but ultimately, Naota knows that it was not a good time in his life for another baby. He's already raised his kids.
