It's Crying Wolf's first birthday.

It's Crying Wolf's first birthday.

I... I don't know how I feel about this. Honestly, I don't know how to feel about Crying Wolf. It's my debut novel and it's a good book. I'm proud of it. Heck, I think there is some damn fine writing crammed into those pages.
But, it was written in 2018 during a very odd time in my life and was published in 2021 during a much odder time in my life. When it came out I wasn't mentally ready for a book release. I remember the sinking panic I felt every time I thought about it.
And I still don't know why. It's a great book. Of course it's a great book. It's about werewolves. I wrote it. How could it not be a great book?
But I just didn't have the spoons to deal with a book release at the time. So, I didn't celebrate. I didn't mention it at work. I didn't post about it, or talk about it, or think about it. Heck, I didn't even see it until months later.
It was... not the debut I imagined. And that was my own fault.
But now it's a year later and I want to change that. I want to celebrate Crying Wolf in a way I couldn't last year.
So this here is me doing that.
Crying Wolf is a story about family, devotion, confinement, and finding yourself a cute werewolf boyfriend.
Tumblr media
You can buy it here.
I might try to figure out a way to make signed copies available from my Ko-Fi shop. That might be a thing I can do.
Anyway.
It's awesome. I'm glad I wrote it. I'm glad I'm celebrating the fact I wrote it. I'm glad I spent so much time and energy writing it... and I'm sorry I couldn't give it the release it deserved a year ago.
I'm genuinely, truly sorry for that.
I'm going to go get drunk now. 🐺💙

I’ve been reading Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy and I wanted to get my versions of Jamie and Ryan’s designs out of my head.
BTW it’s a pretty steamy adult hockey romance, and i highly rec it if that’s what you’re into!

As someone who felt bereft after finishing Captive Prince, I thought I'd make a wee list of other books that have a similar vibe. (Good character writing with at least one sneaky fuck in the relationship, interesting plot, love/hate.)
I won't give an in-depth review for them, they're ALL fantastic. (I'm also incredibly lazy, so me even bothering to make this list is it's own 5-star review. I do have faves on this list tho, so feel free to slide me an ask about 'em.)
• The Will Darling Adventures - KJ Charles
2 books, incomplete. Historical, mystery/thriller.
• Death and the Devil Series - L.J. Hayward
3 books, complete. Modern day, spies, thriller.
• Liar, Liar - T.A. Moore
Stand alone book. Modern day, businessman/bodyguard.
• Seven of Spades Series - Cordelia Kingsbridge
5 books, complete. Modern day, thriller, homicide detectives.
• The Administration Series - Manna Francis
Multiple books. Dystopian universe, very long, dark.
• Playing the Fool Series - JA Rock & Lisa Henry
3 books, complete. Modern day, detective/witness.
All 3 of Ariana Nash's series':
(Please do not think that grouping these diminishes them. They are each, individually, phenomenal.)
• The Prince's Assassin Series
2 books, incomplete. Fantasy, thriller. Magic & dragons.
• Silk & Steel Series
3 books, complete. Fantasy. Elves & dragons.
• Primal Sin Series
2 books, incomplete. Fantasy. Angels & demons.

Do you have any book recommendations? Hope you’re having a great day!
DO I HAVE BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS? ONLY ALWAYS
Captive Prince series - C. S. Pascat | A trilogy about the political turmoil between two kingdoms, and the personal intrigue between the compelling Prince Laurent and his slave Damen, a former heir to the throne. This series is one I revisit on a pretty much annual basis. It’s got three main stories and four companion stories, there are trigger warnings galore but it’s beautifully written and the literal perfect execution of enemies to lovers.
HIM series - Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy | The first book follows two childhood best friends who lost touch for a while reconnect the summer prior to them each starting their NHL careers. I won’t give too much away but there is a second book and a short novella as well. Beautiful friends to lovers, angst in a way that feels real and tangible, and hockey, what more could you ask for. For anyone who loves audiobooks - the audiobook versions of these stories are EXCELLENT.
Seven of Spades series - Cordelia Kingsbridge | A serial killer is on the loose in Las Vegas and this series chronicles detective Levi Abrams and bounty hunter Dominic Russo’s struggle to solve the case and their connection to one another. I physically could not stop reading these books, I think I read 5 in 4 days. It’s so riveting, the relationship is so good and it’s a satisfying mystery.
The Raven Cycle - Maggie Stiefvater | A group of prep school boys from very different backgrounds meet a psychic’s daughter and have many supernatural shenanigans. The original series has four books and one novella. The writer is now working on a companion series focused on one of the main characters from the original series, the first book of which is out and is called Call Down the Hawk. I love this story, the world building is great, beautiful writing, and brilliantly executed love stories both romantic and platonic. Again, very good audiobooks if you’re into that kinda thing.
Top Secret - Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy | Frat bros who hate each other accidentally start connecting via a sex app. More enemies to lovers? Katie you predictably simple bitch WELL OK BUT trust me, this book is well worth your time.
The Last Thing He Needs - J. H. Knight | Basically the television show Shameless if Fiona was a gay dude and she ended up dating the cop who was into her. I KNOW OK? it’s kind of a cheesy romance novel but this book is always an easy read that makes me feel pretty warm and fuzzy.
Enlightenment series - Joanna Chambers | 1800s Scotland, a lawyer with radical associates meets a lord who rubs elbows with royalty. High stakes these two can’t stay away from each other drama. I have such a soft spot for historical fiction romance AND BRITISH HISTORY these books are my jam.
Also: THG, HP, Simon vs, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, TSoA, The Charioteer, Carry On, the Adrien English series, Longbourn, Days without End, Kidnapped by the Pirate
for my book recs I tend to harass my wonderful friends jill @shadeandadidas and marlo @bestillmyslashyheart who very likely have some more good recs to add to this list

So... my publisher emailed me and told me my novel Crying Wolf is going to be on Kindle Unlimited until December.
Tumblr media
So... eh... happy October? If you want to read a book about werewolves I wrote years before Blood Moon fell out of my subconscious then here is your chance.
I know it looks like a romance... and I guess it sorta is now... but it was originally conceived as, and at the heart still is, a drama about families.
So... eh... yeah... that's it. That's my announcement.
