It was a bold assumption to make , but one that he’s found to be quite accurate. Stumbling into a man of his stature seems to be frightening for some people - not that he blames them , of course. Though books are not meant to be judged by their covers , his own is intimidating enough to make most strangers apprehensive. To see that she wasn’t was a slight surprise. Even more surprising was the knowledge that the animals told her about his presence. The comment makes him smile. She’s not a druid , of that he’s certain , and yet she has a connection with nature that most would never even dream of.
❛ They told you I would be here ? ❜ He asks ── not disbelieving , but curious. ❛ Not many can commune with the wild without the use of a spell. ❜ Not even he can. And , with his newfound lack of power , he can’t even do it with a spell. ❛ You’re very lucky , indeed. They’re the best company to keep. ❜
When she sits down next to him , he watches as the various animals depart from her side. The fox he had offered his hand to sniffs it a few times , and then skitters off to go curl up under a nearby beam of sun. This place has a great magic imbued within it , one he wishes he could harness. Feel. All he gets is faint , a whisper. Never once in his life has he felt so disconnected from a place such as this.
Halsin listens to her speak , gaze softening as she so easily recognizes him as being not of this place. He supposes he didn’t try hiding it much. He’s not sure if it’s something he could hide. Instead he shakes his head , his smile not fading. ❛ Ah ── so it was that obvious. So much for blending in. ❜ He laughs softly at her offer. ❛ That’s very kind of you. If you truly have nothing more important to do than let an ancient man like me waste your time , then your company would be lovely. ❜
" Startled me ? " For once, Snow White didn't jump at the voice that broke trough the otherwise quiet sounds like a startled faun. This time, she was given a warning she wasn't alone here... Well, more like a gentle heads up really. Just like it was back home, the princess seemed to have a much deeper connection with the wild life than she ever could with the people here. So when she started to take her routine walk through the Airaisal forest, she was immediately told about the rather large man that had planted his roots where she usually stopped to rest.
" Oh no no friend, you're quite alright ! In fact, a little birdie told me I might run into company today! I suppose I should call myself lucky ! "
Snow stopped where she was, and sat herself down a few feet across from Halsin, setting her little canvas bag down next to her. She quietly observed his face for a moment, folding her hands in her lap. Something was bothering him, it was hidden in the very corners of her smile, tucked away behind the gentle smile she was familiar with giving to others... And she certainly hadn't seen the man before, so her first assumption was that he had just gotten here.
Next came the clothing. The medallion that sat at a cross on his chest caught her eyes first, along with the leaves adorning his shoulders like epaulets. This man was no stranger to the wild, that was for sure... She'd heard of people living as close to the land as they could before, shamans, the old druids of Gaul and Rhine... If this man was anything like those stories, then gosh, she could only imagine how out of sorts he must be then, if this was the first place he could think to go.
" Why, yes. I suppose I do ! My friends told me I might find someone else here today, and golly, I am quite glad they did ! ... You've only just been brought here, haven't you.. ? Pardon me for sayng so, but, I've learned it's a little easier to bear when you're not alone with your thoughts for the first few days... Would you like some company ? "

After the first few familiar faces he's run into , seeing Gale doesn't have the same " spark " , so to speak. Sure , he's still happy to see him , but it's not as relieving as the first two were. Instead , it leaves him with a growing dread. A seed of doubt planted deep within his mind that he won't be returning back to the shadow cursed lands anytime soon. That he will never be able to free them from their blight.
The thought is shaken from his head as he approaches where Gale is sat. ❛ I hope you won't mind some company. ❜ Halsin lowers himself onto the grass before even getting an answer , letting out a soft sigh. He tilts his head back , staring up at the cloudless sky. This place , no matter how beautiful it could be , it just wasn't right.
❛ I would ask you how you've been , but seeing as we've both been brought to this place , I think I know the answer. ❜

Familiarizing himself with this place has been nothing but a struggle. Cities in Faerûn were one thing ─ big , yes , but manageable. But this wasn’t Faerûn in the slightest. Depending on where you were ( why a city needs to be separated into four parts Halsin will never know ) some of the buildings were so tall he swore they could touch the clouds. Completely unnecessary , he thinks.
Even so , he supposes he should at least know the city well enough if he’s to be kept here for however long. Especially since there seems to be no way of escaping , and he wouldn’t want to try anything risky with his powers stripped from him. Funny how these things work.
One of the wards he’s taken quite a liking to is Archimedes. It’s not nearly as overwhelming as some of the others , and he would be lying if he said it wasn’t beautiful. The Theater of Calliope is where he finds himself , a stage nestled in the mountain with a view of the island behind it. The rehearsal was ending just as he arrived , but that didn’t bother him any. He was far more interested in the stage itself , intertwined with nature while also being so disconnected from it. It’s not until the stranger approaches him asking his opinion on the play that he’s finally shaken from his thoughts , and he offers a small awkward smile.
❛ Ah - I caught it at a rather bad time , I’m afraid. ❜ He admits softly. ❛ I just arrived - but what I did see was good. I’m sorry I don’t have anything more substantial to say. I can’t say I’ve seen many performances like this before. ❜

This place is nightmarish at best. While he’s found forests , each of them imbued with their own very strange power , they’re few and very far between. The solace they grant him is less than what he would hope , but it’s much to ask of a place such as this. One that strips away the power of those who come here ─ well , of him at the very least. He suppose he cannot say if it’s the same for anyone else. Not yet , anyways.
As he once again leaves the sounds of the city behind him , finding his place amongst nature once more , there’s something odd. A feeling , perhaps. Halsin cannot say his intuition has always been the best , but as he hears rustling leaves , there’s a part of him that knows an animal won’t be the source of the noise.
When he turns the sound had already ended. Instead , he sees an all - too familiar elf heading back towards the city. He’s not sure whether to be relieved that he sees another familiar face or concerned that so many are being brought here.
❛ Leaving so soon ? ❜ He asks with a laugh. ❛ You didn’t even say hello. ❜

This was his third attempt at assuming his wild shape. The first time , he could write it off as a fluke. His connection to Silvanus was weak , nature's power clearly wasn't as strong here. Perhaps he just needed a chance of scenery. His second attempt , too , bore fruitless. Even after he surrounded himself with what nature this place would allow him , nothing. It had come so easily to him for so long that the absence of it planted a seed of doubt deep within his mind. Maybe it wasn't this place. Maybe it was him.
This time , after trekking a good ways into the first forest he found , he settled himself under a tree to meditate. He allowed nothing to distract him , and after focusing all of his effort into it ―― it was as if the very ability was stripped from him. Like his connection to his druidic powers was severed entirely. It was a feeling unlike any other , a feeling of helplessness. Loss.
He was extremely close to letting such feelings consume him when he heard a twig snap. While he was very used to the sounds of various animals running around ( the most familiar and welcome sounds he's heard since his arrival ) there's few animals that could snap a twig with one step so easily. And so , he opens his eyes. What he sees in front of him was unexpected , to say the least. A child. And not a lost one having accidentally ventured too far into the woods during a game , no. This is a friend of nature , the small trail of squirrels and other small creatures gave her away. The sorrow he felt was momentarily pushed aside , instead he raised a hand to wave and offered her a gentle smile.
❛ You've got quite the company , haven't you ? ❜ He asked , nodding his head towards the animals surrounding her. A hand is offered out to a fox that was staring at him skeptically. ❛ Go on as you were , young one. I do hope my presence here hasn't startled you. ❜

The last thing he remembered before appearing in this place was seeing Thaniel one last time. His hope of seeing the Shadow Curse vanquished was dashed , smothered like a forest under siege by a great fire. Halsin wasn't quite sure what this place was , all he could gather from the looks of it is that it was , indeed , a city. If the look alone wasn't enough , the disconnect he felt from the Oak Father , from nature's power , told him more than words ever could.
Everything here was foreign. Wrong. If there was some sort of woods in this place , a forest , or even just a grassy field away from the large metal buildings , he was going to find it. In his haste , the flash of pink he sees out of the corner of his eye is almost disregarded. But something in the back of his mind tells him to look again. And so he does , slowing his step slightly get a better look.
Recognition hit him in waves , a feeling much appreciated in a place like this. Why she was here was a question he shelves away in his mind to ask later. It's just a relief to know that there's someone reliable around.
❛ Fiyero ! ❜ He calls out , all uncertainty cast aside as he makes his way to close the distance between them. ❛ Is that you ? ❜

HALSIN SILVERBOUGH ( Baldur's Gate 3 )
There are no mistakes in nature. Only hidden purpose.
app. stats. rules. threads. credit.
Former Archdruid of the Emerald Grove , forever protector of the Oak Father's gifts.
A Wood Elf that's far closer to being a bear than he is to being an elf. Doesn't help that he can ( could ) change into one at will.
His heart is as big as his body his ―― and he treats love like nature , ever changing and expanding.
He's taken the role of Caretaker to heart. So much so that he often neglects to care for himself.
HOUSE 106.
