the man in the woods

I met the man in the woods he was releasing seeds with the devil in his eyes and silent vacancy in his mouth

against the trunk of a tree while shadows came encroaching like sunshine into water how they crept upon him bare

first a drop, then another as the leaves below him crackled and with deeper breaths he bellowed like a god in rage

as the sun began to die in its calm smooth descent, so the woods devoured him whole and the seeds dissolved in the night

i’m doubting myself, morbid and conscious of the way i felt.

she is a dark cloud

smoke in your hands

a breath away from dreaming

the twist of your fingers

curling

And I realized I had been living

My entire life from this lens

I was entrapped beneath

Everyone else’s version of my life

And for the first time

I saw a way out

And today, so many months later

A dear old friend told me

That she could see the light

Had returned to my eyes

And I had a moment of realizing

I’ve made it.
