“Say my shuttle exploded. I died, and it was such a shame. Give me a break, Crux, I’m begging you here—I’ll trade you a skin mag. Frontline Titties of the Fifth.” This rendered the marshal momentarily too aghast to respond. “Okay, okay. I take it back. Frontline Titties isn’t a real publication.”
I spent the better part of a day painting this and looking at a lot of smutty pulp covers for palette and typography purposes (and for science.)

Happy birthday! Wait no. Happy April Fool's Day to my beloved @artists-guild-of-exandria and our Critical Romance book covers!
From the person who brought you Frontline Titties of the Fifth, recreating era-centric fake smutty romance covers is a passion of mine, and I couldn't be more excited. Also I made a lot of these. I've been on deadline. I have no regerts.

It’s finally time for another proper series- the Bells Hells in historical art styles!
First up is Saint Laudna with the tools of her martyrdom as stained glass. This is technically in the style of 19th century medieval revivalism.
I had a ton of fun studying stained glass techniques so I could replicate them while working on this. I specifically used a lot of (digital) sgraffito and back staining.
Fun fact- the “stain” in stained glass refers to silver stain, generally silver nitrate, which was used to build yellows on white glass, or greens on cobalt blue glass.

fascinating parts from this brennan interview about downfall
downfall was recorded in one week and brennan described it as "one of the most intense roleplaying experiences [he's] ever had"
if avalir was showcasing the age of arcanum, downfall will showcase the actual calamity
even though avalir and aeor seem similar on paper, brennan says the stories could NOT be more different. the themes, player motivations/briefings, and genres are completely unique
downfall embraces the nuance and complexity (moral and otherwise) of the gods and digs into the idea that the gods "called a truce" to fell aeor and what that actually means
brennan says aeor actually has a large population of refugees from the calamity by the time downfall takes place. however, they didnt have a large impact on the city's architecture and so by the modern era their cultures and presence in aeor (and wider exandria) have been almost entirely lost
overall downfall seems to focus on the ways that small errors in history can change a lot
brennan describes his experience with dm'ing in exandria as "going into a sandbox and creating the toys you're gonna to play with there"
the population of aeor is "demographically meaningfully different from who was living in aeor at the height of the age of arcanum," according to brennan. basically, not every aeorian will have bolo's accent (sad)
aeormatons will be in downfall in some way
setting, plot, and character backstories were worked on in tandem
on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of tragedy, brennan said downfall would need an entirely new axis. there is a "different kind of horror" in downfall, something that is distinct from "xenomorph chasing you horror"
brennan said "there are moments in downfall where i could feel my stomach wanting to drop out of my body"

I'm not saying that 84% of the Critical Role fanart I've made in the last few years is Aeor, but I'm also not saying it isn't exactly that. So getting the opportunity to paint canon pre-Calamity Aeor might be my new favorite thing.
#critical role#critical role art#aeor forever#critical role spoilers#cr spoilers#I love how sci-fi it is#Also it's terrifying#and I'm not so sure I want to visit Aeor anymore

Hi Tumblr! It’s been [redacted] years that I haven’t posted something, which is rather silly actually. Fixing that.
Anyway, here’s Harrowhark Nonagesimus from The Locked Tomb series! :) Enjoy!

hi welcome to the locked tomb. here's a crash course.
gideon and gideon are different characters
gideon and kiriona are the same character
gideon and pyrrha are different characters but in the same body (gideon's)
gideon is dead now so now the body is just pyrrha's
gideon is also dead, but not really? but also definitely
palamedes and camilla are two different characters who alternated between the same body (camilla's) for a while after palamedes died
now cam and pal have become one character named just paul. that's paul's body now.
harrow and alecto switched bodies for a while but it's ok they got better
alecto and nona are the same character
nona was in harrow's body but then she died kind of
alecto and the planet earth are the same character
dulcinea and cytherea are NOT the same character, but cytherea pretended to be dulcinea for a while (dulcinea was dead the whole time)
there are two different characters called teacher. one of them is god
god is actually named john but we all call him jod (to avoid confusion)
god isn't actually god
hope this helps!
