As the woman approached Liu Kang's body, she told the other that the task must be fulfilled. As the male was doing sorcery taking an amount of essence from Liu Kang's body, the voice of Liu Kang started speaking to them telepathically that they are the last brink of light in the darkness.

A Spark of Light from the Shadows
In the aftermath of Liu Kang and Shang Tsung's battle, Liu Kang rose from the floor with Shang Tsung standing behind choking him as he turned behind. With his final moments now in the sorcerer's hand, unexpectedly time froze stopping everything including both Titan and God. Two unknown figures started approaching Liu Kang's body from the shadows, one figure started to get a form of a woman while the other formed a shape of a man.

The Final Candle of Light
After Shang Tsung has defeated Kronika, he offered to spare her life in exchange for her servitude to him. Kronika refused servitude since she's a Titan, chuckling Shang Tsung decides to consume Kronika's soul to him becoming now the new Keeper of Time. Before Shang Tsung begins to operate the hourglass, a portal opens with Liu Kang appearing from it. A surprised Shang Tsung started to question why he is there. Liu Kang explained his plan and Shang Tsung realized his plot realizing that he has one more obstacle before his control of the hourglass and domination of realms, killing Liu Kang. Liu Kang offers Shang Tsung one chance to desist his position and make things right until he mentions that he is now a Titan and in control of the hourglass which he mentions that he is no match for him. Suddenly a final battle between the God of Thunder and Fire against The New Keeper of Time holds out until he proves more than a match to Liu Kang.
