A case for ordering pick up instead of delivery.

As nice as it is to have food delivered to you from one of the apps, I strongly recommend ordering for pickup instead of delivery whenever possible. Yes it rules having food brought right to you, but it’s better in nearly every way to just go get it for the following reasons:

- if the place is far and you don’t want to make the trip, the driver will likely complete other pickups/drops along the way bc it’s more economical for them, meaning your food will be colder and the wait longer than if you just go get it yourself. If the place is close, even more reason to just go pick it up! Getting it delivered just adds steps that make it take longer and make your food arrive worse than if you get it yourself!

- fees. Where I am, the apps are mad that they can’t underpay and exploit their drivers anymore, so they added an (iirc) $8 fee to every order, passing the responsibility to the customer. Food is already expensive these days, adding $8 to your order is wild! That’s an entire menu item! That’s more than the average burger, and burgers are fucking expensive now! All because the apps don’t want to pay their workers fairly. If you pick up, you save that money. If they don’t have that fee where you are, I’ve got bad news about your driver’s wages.

- ordering pickup is already a huge convenience! You place an order and it’s ready to go when you get there. No waiting in line to order, you place an order on your way home or whatever, you get there when they say, it’s fresher than delivery, wonderful.

- has your delivery gone to the wrong place? Menu items missing? Delivery take twice as long as the estimate and now your dinner is a cold pile of crap? Go fuck yourself! Door dash doesn’t care! Best you’ll get is a partial refund in credit, and you still don’t have dinner! If you go to the restaurant, most of those problems won’t happen! Item missing? They’ll fix it right there! Bada bing!

This is not to say that nobody should ever order delivery. There are plenty of people who can’t do pick up. Like if your mobility is limited, get that delivery! Maybe you don’t have transport. That’s fine. Hell sometimes you just need to get food delivered regardless of the circumstances. I’m not judging your reasoning. Do what you gotta. But the main incentive of delivery is convenience, and the reality of that convenience is increasingly outweighed by the cost.

Ooo, Ooo, I actually have something to share for this!

Meet Kaedi! She was someone who kept showing up in my dreams while I was still drawing all the time, and would help me flesh out little ideas I had, to the point that I jokingly called her my muse. She isn't always a fox, but this was her preferred appearance, as she likes wrapping people up in her tails whenever they're having a less-than-good day.

Mind you, these drawings are from, like, highschool era, i really do need to redraw her once I regain my art motivations.
