Evaluation
When we first started the Negotiated Major project I found it quite difficult to begin with and was really quite panicked over it, as such it took me a good amount of time to decide on what I wanted to do and to really get started.
Initially I had plans to take on a number of competition briefs, as well as complete a personal project of my own making. I began with the Monotype brief, which was part of the 2012 D&AD competition. However over the short time period prior to the competition deadline I found it quite difficult to fit this work in amongst other projects, as such I was unfortunately unable to meet the deadline in order to submit it to D&AD. I ultimately decided to continue with a similar theme as a personal project, as I had hoped to create something relating to film or TV to start with.
In conjunction with this I also had a number of designs to complete for the University snow sports club, which I decided to include as part of my NMP. The projects for Salford Snow allow me to have complete creative freedom as there is no set brief or style to adhere to. These are always projects that I greatly enjoy doing.
Additionally, during this time period I was made aware of a design position at a company I have worked with and am familiar with. As part of my application I decided to redesign the personal portfolio site I had submitted for professional contexts. This was because I felt it wasn’t reflecting the style in which I wanted to represent myself. I was also given a project by the company to complete as part of the application. This project was a branding and marketing campaign for an existing university snow sports club called ‘Skum’. I decided to go above and beyond what was asked for a I wanted to give a good impression. The overall project I enjoyed completing and was very happy with.
Overall, although I feel I have completed a sufficient body of work I would have liked to have been able to do a bit more, particularly with my personal project. I felt that my time management and inability to make decisions and get started initially is what has lead to the lack of time to expand further.

This was my initial poster concept for the film event. I was intending to create a series of imagery from each film consistent of the minimal style used throughout the project, these items were to be displayed as though laid out along with cinema imagery to allude to the idea of a lord of the rings screening event. However after a while I felt that it wasn’t strong enough and looked quite sloppy.

These are my final posters advertising the special screening of the trilogy. I wanted to create a design that worked with the style of my character illustrations so I decided on a really simple concept that will subtly allude to the event rather than giving it away completely. The idea being that once intrigued the viewer would look to find more information on the website.

I found these characters a lot harder to do as their features are a little trickier to portray through minimal design. However I am fairly happy with the outcome.
The eye of Sauron
Balrog
Treebeard

This is the final presentation of my project that I sent off as part of my application. It includes the logo design, poster and leaflets along with the flag and sticker designs, and finally the artwork for the website getmetothealps.com. I am really quite happy with the final result, it was a lot of work to do in a short amount of time but hopefully it will impress them!

This is my final logo design. I went with a hand drawn design as I felt it differed from the original logo more. The megaphone concept is related to the fact that SKUM are very boastful that they are the loudest, proudest and most infamous club in the UK. I created the primary logo design, along with several secondary logos to be used on a variety of different platforms.
