Deeply upsetting to find out that people write fanfics to preach at Wei Wuxian instead of doing what they should do which is say "yeah I'd die for this fictional man for sure"

You are so right about LWJ and i perhaps came across as too harsh on him but i really do love his character too. By GOD his reaction to the golden core reveal... finding out there had once been a 50-50 chance he would never have seen Wei Wuxian again and no one would ever have known what happened...? My heart was broken my day was ruined i was crying screaming throwing up I don't think I'm ever getting over that. jesus christ.

During the earlier flashbacks I had my critiques against Lan Wangji for how he acted towards Wei Wuxian, and what he expected of him in terms of memory, but... I really can't be serious about any of em. I love him so much. My sweet baby boy Lan Wangji was a teenager laboring under emotional repression and internalized homophobia for years and years of his young life and there's no way to ignore how painful that was for him, and how difficult it was to endure that he was head over heels for this little troublemaker who is nothing if not annoying on purpose. no fucking WAY was he gonna be able to respond with anything other than violence

Gonna just gently set aside the later years in the flashbacks where he fights to get Wei Wuxian to stop doing what he was doing. I'll put those right over there and I'm not gonna think about them bc I'll be sad. But I bet Lan Wangji's heart was being ripped into shreds watching Wei Wuxian in pain bc mine sure was.

Anyway if I think about it from his POV I can't help but be miserable for Lan Wangji as a lil guy under the weight of a huge crush on That Fool (affectionate). Wei Wuxian so clearly had a brother and friends he could hang out with. Maybe they never protected him with the same fervor he protected everyone else but that's more of my Wei Wuxian defending coming up and I'm trying to think about Lan Wangji. People liked Wei Wuxian! He put his life on the line for people he just met, or had never met! He cared about Lan Wangji just as easily as he cared about everyone, because that's just how he was!!! Like no wonder Lan Wangji fell in love with someone like that!!!! But even though I felt like Wei Wuxian was making it clear that he ALSO really wanted Lan Wangji to like him and be friends with him... he had other people to hang out with, and a social circle outside of Lan Wangji. And for Lan Wangji... Wei Wuxian was pretty much his whole world. All he wanted was to be as special to Wei Wuxian as Wei Wuxian was to him but the only thing he could ever notice was that Wei Wuxian risked his life to save Lan Wangji from that monster in the cave the same way he risked his life to save Su She from the Waterborne Abyss and Mianmian from the branding iron. Just cause he cared about people. And the ultimate tragedy.... Wei Wuxian's opinion of himself was so service-oriented that he didn't notice the key difference to saving LWJ instead of some rando... Lan Wangji was maybe the first motherfucker who leapt in trying to save him too –with any degree of efficiency that is. looking at u jiang cheng. skill issue

Also i definitely don't mean to call Lan Wangji selfish or accuse him of only wanting Wei Wuxian to himself, i think it's so reasonable to want to be special to ur crush. He just didn't realize – and this is not his fault – that if he hung out with Wei Wuxian consistently for about two or three months, he'd fall in love with him too (obviously might not have gone that way at the time but i like to think it would have).

god this series really does just make you want to give certain extremely traumatized, self-sacrificial characters I could mention big giant comfy squeezy hugs, doesn't it

It frustrates me so much when people use Jin Zixuan's death as some kind of proof that Wei Ying was out of control because you do remember he was being attacked at the time, right? Like he accepted the invitation to see his nephew in good faith, and instead, he was attacked. Violently. With the intent to kill. They were shooting arrows at him. If he hadn't spurred Wen Ning into action, he would have been killed. Like, you guys remember that, right? And it's not like he could just hop on his sword and fly away. He was cornered, and the only way out was to fight.

I'm not blaming Jin Zixuan for his own death, that blame lies solely on Jin Zixun, but I still think it was incredibly stupid of him to walk right into active fight zone and not expect to get hurt. Also, why was he telling Wei Ying to stop when Jin Zixun was still trying to kill him???

I don't understand this need to find something to blame Wei Ying for. He's always acting in defense. Against forces greater than him. He's reactive. He rarely actually starts things first. Like yeah he's a flawed character but that doesn't make him automatically culpable.

People at Nevernight were calling for both his blood and the Remnants, and he's supposed to just take that???? Just let it be? Take the Remnants and hide??? To where???? Wei Ying was so desperate to find them a place to go the first time that he took them to the Burial Mounds. The Burial Mounds. Do you know how desperate you have to be to consider a haven for corpses and ghosts as a safe haven??? Where else was he supposed to take them???

Even then, THEY shot him first. He didn't even make the first move. I do not understand why people think Wei Ying is in the wrong for simply fighting back to protect people he cared about.

For the love of God, someone needs to explain this to me because I'm really sick of this fanon character assassination
