So I have decided to start to code. Yay!
Technically this isn’t the first time I started to code, but this is going to be the time that lasts, so I’m going to count it this time. I went through a phase a couple years ago, unhappy with the route of my life, where I thought maybe Web Development was the right path for me. I took a class and really enjoyed it, but it wasn’t something I kept up. I got a job working in childcare and discovered that I was really good at working with kids. Imagine that, me -- someone who never really had an opinion on kids, unless they were bad. And Web Dev. fell away. Thoughts about becoming a teacher came into play. And in the State of Texas, it was attainable, but I have recently moved and getting into the field of Education means a Master’s Degree.
A Master’s Degree in Education. Meh.
If I was going to get a Masters, I decided that it was going to be something that maked beaucoup bucks. But, to be honest, healthcare had never really been my thing. Hell, I can’t even afford it, really, so here I was, with a horrible Bachelors of Stop-Changing-Your-Major-And-Just-Take-What-You-Can-Get (A.K.A basically a General Studies degree) and even more lost than before on what to do.
A couple days ago, my girlfriend asked me “What was my passion?” And I’ve never had a real answer to this question. I wanted to be creative and I wanted to help people. As a kid, I wanted to be an author, but it wasn’t ever really enough, but it felt selfish, like I wasn’t contributing anything but the stories in my head. Teaching was the first job that was a mixture of both of those two things. I was able to be silly, try new things and.... was shaping lives, but.... it’s so strict. I don’t want to be 9 to 5.
So here we are. I’ve gotten through my HTML5 Lesson on my course and I’m starting CSS tomorrow, while I escape from the nannying going on in the living room. Yeah, I just made nanny a verb. I’m creative.
