Byler fans, don't watch if you don't want to sob

I KNOW that if Stranger Things 5 goes the angsty route with Byler, it will DESTROY me. Watch "the first same sex kiss in film," a clip from a 1927 movie WINGS where 2 men are best friends and Allied pilots in World War I. Jack is comforting his dying best friend Dave who he accidentally shot down. I couldn't help watching this scene without thinking what an angsty Mike/Will scene will do to me:

There are even echoes of Mike and Will's story. They are best friends. They were in a love triangle, while developing a deep bond for each other. Jack apologizes to Dave for lying "about the picture":

I was thinking of what angsty Mike and Will scenes would be like and I know I will be a HOT MESS if the Duffers ever get this cruel to my heart. (Which I think they will! But probably not actually permanently kill off one of them cuz CMON Will have a happy ending!)

Here's the clip. (Context: They're both Allied pilots. Dave gets shot down by the Germans. He survives and steals a German plane. Jack, in grief over Dave, shoots down Dave's plane thinking he's another "Heinie" (German). Jack arrives and realizes he just shot down his best friend.)

waiiiittt yall remember when Mike turned his head towards Will in the van and not El after the rink-o-mania incident?

i didn’t even think about it that way, but it’s yet another parallel to the rain fight!!

We all know Rink-o-mania recreated the rain scene quite to the exact details (ex.:)

And we know that Mike had had a fight with El and Will in both incidents.

BUT we also know that Mike never apologized to El for lying in s3, but he instead went after Will after the rain fight. showing his priority is not El, but Will.

and this happens AGAIN after rink-o-mania!!! He’s ton the middle of the both of them in the car, (no accident i’m sure) and he could look towards El, showing that he feels bad about leaving her alone and worrying about her, BUT HE TURNS TOWARDS WILL!! About THEIR fight. Not him and El’s. Showing his priority is Will, once again. This is noooo accident to show this both times in two seasons and two incidents that parallel each other. its made to show that no matter what, Will is always on his mind and his priority. its so clear. cause what else is that car scene made for? (where Mike turns his head over to Will)

Also we know that Mike went to apologize to Will after, and their relationship got stronger. HE went to apologize. and they resolved it.

But with El, he waited for her to make the move and deflected everything on her, continuing to fight and it never got resolved. she’s still mad at him at the end of the season, she knows something is up. and their fight is not resolved. Mike stayed his defensive self with her and blamed her by saying « so are we just not gonna talk about it? » and saying that her reaction to his dry, non romantic letters was insane.

He’s a better person with Will, and he’ll always prioritize him.

how do people think that mike's monologue to el is sweet and romantic?? the way the scene is filmed is so overstimulating and tense that every time i watch it i feel like fucking pennywise is about to jump out from behind them and tell mike he knows his dirty little secret

“it’s me trying to find myself but mike is kind of influencing that” and she said that El is her own superhero and that she wants El's independence arc to be explored, so El's arc and Mike's arc don't match, Mike wants to feel needed and Will needs him romantically and platonically, El doesn't need him and her arc is about being independent and not being what men want her to be

i know everyone's saying that will is completely unconscious on joyce in this clip but

So... Volume 2, right?

Are we all in agreement that, if Byler happens, it will be during Volume 2?

Netflix has announced:

Volume 1 is episodes 1-4 (Nov. 26)

Volume 2 is episodes 5-7 (Dec. 25)

Volume 3 is episode 8 (Dec. 31)

I think having Byler happen in Volume 1 would be too early for many people. Most people haven't been thinking about the possibility yet. Having it in Volume 2 lets the show plant the seeds for Byler in the General Audience's minds a full month in advance. Then speculation can run rampant, and Byler analysis videos (ahem!) can be consumed.

I've already been thinking about how exactly they'll manage audience expectations! It needs time. Here's an older post of mine: "How the Duffers likely will make the general audience AWARE of Byler and CHEER for Byler"

I'm being a bit selfish, too, in that I don't want it to happen in the very last episode because we need our happy Byler coupley moments! Plus, this gives time in the story for Will to boldly be out in Hawkins High, which could be a great part of his arc and dealing with fear and evangelism in Hawkins.

(EDIT: And it would be pretty cool for gay love to be revealed on the biggest Christian day of the year, wouldn't it?)

Plus, Episode 6 is frikkin titled "Escape from Camazotz." Which is probably a reference to A Wrinkle in Time, which has a scene of someone declaring their love pulling someone else out of a possession, reads like a Byler fanfic, and is consistent with how Mike has saved Will several times from the Upside Down already.

And while we're at it, the final episode of Volume 1 is titled "Sorcerer," which is also the Miwi episode! It's the one that has the flashback of a young Mike, Will, and Jonathan. Maybe it's titled "Sorcerer" because it's about someone new having powers? Someone like Will? Volume 1 of Season 4 ended with the big reveal of who Vecna was. Volume 1 needs to be its own mid-season climax. Isn't this the perfect time for Will's buried memories to make a big revelation about Will? And to jumpstart speculation about Will's future and about Byler?
