Everyday Practice Ideas
You do not have to practice witchcraft everyday. You are allowed to miss a day. We're all human. We get tired. We have mentally and physically exhausting days. You don't have to beat yourself up or shame yourself for missing a day.
Note that this is not accessible for everyone. Please prioritize mental and physical health before anything else. This is a list of ideas to incorporate into your routine. You do not have to follow it. But you can if you want.
Low Energy
Talk with and care for some plants. Go outside and talk to a patch of grass or talk to a houseplant.
Pray to the universe or to a deity.
Use daily affirmations. Talk to yourself in the mirror. Say a mantra. Encourage yourself. Build yourself up.
Meditate. Meditate with a crystal, a poppet, some ambient sounds. Basically, meditate on or with anything that puts you in a meditative mindset. If you're not use to it, start small and then work your way up. 5 minutes a day until you're ready, then go to 10 or 20 or even higher.
Read. Flick through your book of shadows. Read any occult literature. Listen to audiobooks. Have fun with it.
Burn candles or incense or wax melts. Light a deity candle or figure candle. Customize the fragrance and color to match the correspondence of your intention. A purple lavender candle would be great to promote mental health or calmness in general.
A Bit More Energy
Sing and dance. Sound magic is a beautiful thing. Create a playlist devoted to your deities or to yourself or what you want to manifest. Then play it on shuffle. Let the universe or your deity or your higher conscious pick the song you need to hear. Think of it as divination.
More divination ideas include but are not limited to: picking one or more oracle/tarot cards, using a set of runes, using a pendulum, etc. Reflect on the meaning of the message.
Daily Routine
If you have tea or coffee in the morning, or any beverage really, stir it clockwise to attract something and counterclockwise to banish something if you live in the Northern Hemisphere. Vice versa if you live in the Southern Hemisphere. Get fancy and use magical correspondences.
Have a cup of moon water when you wake up. The phases of the moon relate to different concepts. Use these in your spell work. Take a glass or jar or bottle of water, set it by a window the night before, and when you wake up wlyoi will have a glass of moon water at the ready.
Draw sigils on your face with lotion or foundation. Activate by blending.
Use color magic in your makeup or your clothing.
Use knot magic to tie your shoelaces.
Practice kitchen magic. Cook your food with intention. Use different correspondences of herbs or spices in your cooking. Please consult your doctor before taking any herbs or spices. These may affect your medications or conditions.
Every night take off your jewelry and place it in a bowl of salt or by a crystal to charge it. Then put it on in the morning to bring that energy with you throughout the day.
Wear perfume that corresponds to what you want to manifest. Alternatively, you can wear an essential oil or something similar.
Take a ritual bath or shower. Place a candle or crystals or herbs near you. Please be careful. Do your research on crystals that are water safe. Figure out what herbs irritate your skin or you have allergies to before doing this.
Journal. You can do some shadow work here. Please be careful with this though, as tackling certain aspects of life may take a toll on your mental health. If you are able to, do this im tandem with therapy.

Evening

Connecting with Deities for Beginners
First: religious or spiritual belief is entirely optional in witchcraft. Your own divinity and power to manifest does not reduce because youāre not throwing food at your altar for aĀ āpatron deityā every week. In fact, patron deities are a lot rarer than tumblr might have you believe. Allow this process to be what it is - a process. Allow time to discover your spiritual home. Thereās no rush. Youāve lived lifetimes and you will live more.Ā
If you feel called toward connecting with deity, hereās my advice: write. Writing forces you to slow your thinking down and truly consider your ideas, thoughts, and desires. Writing pieces of yourself down puts them into the universe.Ā
Take these ideas into a journal that youāve chosen with an intention to be a place for spiritual work. It can be a Book of Shadows or something else. Try these prompts - if you donāt know the answers to these questions, itās an opportunity to dive into yourself!
1. Numbers: Are there numbers youāve felt drawn to? Do you have any lucky numbers? Do things always work out the first time you try them, or does it seem to always take three - or seven? Do your relationships with others come in twos or fives? Does your birthday mean anything to you? What about your birth time, or place? If thereās a number you feel at home with, explore it! What deities are related to it? What direction? In my case, 3 is incredibly powerful in all aspects of my life. Iāve found Vishnu and Auset to be my focal points and recognize 3 in them. Vishnu has had 9 incarnations (3x3) and Auset recovered Ausar from the dead to become pregnant and give birth to their child.
2. Animals: Yes, everyone has an opinion about cats or dogs. But maybe you find yourself watching spiders closely rather than jumping away, or the finches in your yard carry weight when you see them. Maybe you found yourself getting a dragonfly tattoo out of nowhere, or thereās something about the octopus that gets your heart swelling with intrigue. Write these down. Check the World Wildlife Foundations adoptable endangered species. Which would you choose? What element or directions do you associate these animals with? Which ones do you want to experiment calling upon?Ā
3. Music: I donāt mean the radio. Think about the music you go to when youāre emotionally well; not full of happiness, not in a valley of sadness or pain. What do you like to study to, meditate to? What songs come on when youāre out at restaurants? Is there a song that just pops up at the strangest or most needed of times? Look at the words, the genre, the meaning of these songs or these types of music. If youāre into soundscapes, seek out elemental or nature deities. If you like hip-hop, seek out deities who are playful or assertive. Classical could lead you to deities of balance or justice. Try making music, just with your hands on the table. What rhythms do you find yourself producing? Whatās your vibration?Ā
4. Joyous Moments: What makes you happy? Maybe bath bombs arenāt your thing, but tea in the morning is. Do you like being surrounded by friends, family, or strangers? Write down the moments of your life where you felt the most blissful. Write down what moments you want to collect before this life has ended. What deities reflect similar habits or goals? If you want to backpack along the Ganges or in Europe, think about deities of travel and movement. If you want to build a family, look at Mother Goddesses.Ā Ā
5. Weirdnesses: This might be the most important and will require slowly opening your inner eye. Look! For! Weirdness! These are not coincidences, these are communications. Track your moods, your feelings, your interactions. Did a friend mention a film or historical figure thatās been in the back of your mind lately? Did that license plate you read have the initials of someone you care about? What imagery or feelings keep appearing in your dreams? Do you keep finding pennies everywhere you go? If youāre not experiencing weirdnesses in your life, throw yourself into a new situation, new people, hobby, or activity. Breaking routine is an excellent way to invite the universe to have a hand in authoring your day.Ā
These are simple journaling activities to help you place yourself in the greater world we occupy. Spiritual journeys are deep, personal, and a long-term commitment. Donāt choose a deity just because theyāre popular, or you feel like you need one.Ā
Spirit guides are already here, waiting for you to listen. The more you reflect on the inner workings of your mind and heart, the more youāre saying YES to magic and saying YES to ascension.Ā

So, you want to be a witch? #4
Part one talks about spells, wards, sigils, cleansing, divination and more!
Part two talks about grimoires, crystals, wands, altars and more!
Part three talks about this vs. that for a lot of the common terms you hear!
It can be easy to feel super overwhelmed when youāre first starting off. This post is for very new witches who have limited knowledge and would like a broad overview! These are my opinions, feel free to disagree but be polite about it.
Types of witches:
As witchcraft grows more popular on the internet, itās become helpful to categorize what your practice looks. This helps to share it more easily and find others who have similar practices.
That being said, it isnāt necessary to categorize yourself! If you were to pick a type (or few), hereās some things youād look at:
What your lifestyle is like. Does where you live affect your practice? (city, country, beach, etc.). Does what you do affect your practice? (work, hobbies, etc.).
What you draw power from. Being outside? Baking in the kitchen? Making your house a home? Exploring the city? Being at the ocean? Etc. Etc.
What you like to do in your craft. What things call to you?
Outside influences. For example, I have a chronic illness so I call myself a spoonie witch.Ā
If you feel like youāre a lot of different things, you can call yourself an eclectic witch (as in, a mix of types) or simply be a witch!
Gender:
Gender and body type does not affect your ability to be a witch. Anyone can be a witch. It literally doesnāt matter. You want to be a witch? Congrats you can be a witch! Donāt fall for the gatekeeping shit.
Gods, Goddesses, Deities:
There is a common belief that you must incorporate divine beings into your practice. While that is certainly okay to do, it is not required in witchcraft. Nor is it required to believe in them. Religion is not an inherent part of witchcraft!
Many witches are also polytheists. For some, these mix and become a hybrid of witchcraft and worship. For others (like myself), the two stay relatively separate.
Some witches have patron deities/have devoted themselves to a deity. While this can be a very powerful connection, I encourage witches to explore their craft secularly first and build their connections over time. Thereās absolutely no rush!
Some witches call upon the powers of the gods to boost their magic. Do so with respect, gods are not spell ingredients.
There is far more to be said on this topic, but this is the overview!
