For this task I have created a video featuring the 5 frontloading questions for the picturebook dusk. I started by creating a meme for each frontloading question, this was done with a simple online meme creator. These were then imported into a PowerPoint presentation. From here I added a music track from the YouTube Audio Library. I added some transitions and adjusted the sound track as necessary. At this stage it could have been left as a PowerPoint but I felt it would work better as a video so I converted it to a MP4 file.

I have chosen to review ‘Eerie Encounter’ for this weeks prompt. For this review I have created a short video that could be presented to the team teaching team. http://education.abc.net.au/home#!/media/31437/show-and-tell-eerie-encounter

Literacy on Placement
Throughout my rounds I had the opportunity to see literacy in action. I saw mentor sentencing in writing and had a chance to partake in reading running records
Writing:
Mentor sentencing begins at the start of the week with a dictation sentence. Each student hears the sentence and writes it in their book. Once this is completed the teacher models the sentence on the whiteboard, highlighting the word classes, punctuation or spelling. On day 2 the students practice writing the sentence again and highlight important features of the sentence structure. On day 3 the students practice their editing and attempt to make the sentence better. On day 4 the students try to write like the author, in this stage the students have to change the meaning of the sentence whilst maintaining the structure. On day five the students then turn over their page and write the original sentence without dictation, at this stage they can also edit or rewrite if time permits.
Reading:
I also had the chance to undertake some running records on placement. This provide insight into assessing students in real time. For me a highlight was assessing the students and working with them to pick their reading goal that not I only I, but the student also felt was suitable.

This is an example of a poster I have seen on my placements. I have created this one in word using clip-art images. It shows some prompting questions for students to consider when working on their comprehension.

ECL310 Prompt 1
One of my fondest memories of being read to was in my early years at primary school. I remember sitting on the floor in front of the teacher eager to hear the story for the day. The book in question was Edward the Emu written by Sheena Knowles and illustrated by Rod Clement. As a child I really enjoyed the rhyming sentences, the humour and the illustrations as Edward tried to cure his boredom at the zoo. I remember borrowing this book from the library on numerous occasions and taking it home to read. I look forward to being able to introduce my future students to texts like Edward the Emu and the sequel Edwina the Emu.
