WEEK 9 PROMPT
This multimodal text was created by the secondary students at Yarraville Special Developmental School in collaboration with the Photography Electives Group. The text is multimodal as it combines film, text, spacial elements, music, animations, student artwork, gestural elements, sound effects and dialogue to create a short film, which brings Aaron’s imagination to life. I chose this text because it truly embodies the essence of multimodality. Although this production is quite professional, teachers can use similar activities in their everyday classroom. In the credits of the film, it is shown that class members had different roles in creating the text, such as painting props and backgrounds, voicing and drawing characters, acting, editing, song writing, song performing, recording/filming and so on. The possibilities are endless. I would use this exact activity in my classroom, as detailed in the lesson plans for my assignment. Giving each child an empowering role is a strengths-based approach and improves the likelihood that the students will be engaged and achieve success. I would present the final product to the school community, making sure the students are proud of their hard work.

WEEK 7 PROMPT
Part 2.
My second recommendation is a resource for teachers to use called Stop Motion.
Stop motion is an app that gives students the opportunity to make animations out of their work.
In a unit of work, this may be the final product that students create. They may create characters, settings and storylines based on an idea from the text studied in class.
This resource is likely to be well received by the students as it is a fun and creative way to showcase what they have learnt. It is a good way to also encompass cross curricular work. E.g. the background may be something they have made in art, a map from humanities, a graph used in maths or recycled paper (sustainability), depending on the storyline.
I discovered this resource when using my previously mentioned resource, the Literacy Teaching Toolkit.

WEEK 7 PROMPT
Part 1.
The first resource I would like to share is the Literacy Teaching Toolkit, designed by the Victorian Government Department of Education and Training.
This resource is beneficial for teachers from Early Childhood to Secondary levels, including lead teachers developing programs for their school.
The resource has been particularly useful for my personal skills, as it provides a variety of practical examples of units of work, designed and implemented by real teachers, which I have used in my own lesson plans. All examples used in the resource are accompanied by links to the Victorian English Curriculum, which is extremely beneficial for primary teachers.
A personal goal of mine was to incorporate multimodality in my lesson planning. This resource includes a whole section about why multimodal texts are important, how they can be used in the classroom and how the students can create their own.
A second resource is shared in my next post.

WEEK 2 PROMPT
This photo was taken from SevenStepsWriting’s Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bos-wEQlUfl/ I drew a lot of inspiration from this as I taught a lesson on ‘sizzling starts’ on my last round of placement.
I think this display really grabs the students attention and gives them easily accessible ideas if they are stuck when starting a piece of writing.

WEEK 3 PROMPT
Reading Time is an accessible online resource for teachers and parents. The site includes reviews of children's literature, with a wide variety of suggestions for different age groups. The site also features interviews with authors and provides opportunities for professional development.

WEEK 1 PROMPT
My mother read this text to me many, many times. The imaginative essence of the book captured me and I often pretended that I was a part of the text. I was able to relate to the text as the main character’s name is Max, which is the name of my younger brother.
I believe that being read to every night before bed had an impact on me, sparking a joy for reading. I still enjoy reading to this day, not only for pleasure but to increase my vocabulary and keep my brain active. As a teacher I see myself incorporating a lot of reading into my class schedule. On my placements I have witnessed the sheer excitement that the students experience when the teacher sets out to read the next chapter of a novel. It is important to promote reading in a positive light to primary age children, while they view it as a fun and exciting exercise.
