Inspiration Behind My Design 9
I really like this example of typographic poster and used the style as inspiration to a part of my project “Who’s The Fairest Of Them All?”. (Inspiration on top and my design on the bottom)

The line style and colours acted as inspiration for my tote bag design, I love the aesthetic of these line drawing style graphics and often use it in my work.

I love the colours of this design and so used it as inspiration for my colour scheme for my visual style for “Who’s the fairest of them all?” I also really like the font used.

I love the colours of this design and the illustration style and used it as inspiration for my tote bag design, I think I will be referring back to this in the future to act as further inspiration also.

These posters both inspired me because of their typography and how it’s been manipulated and warped. I love the aesthetic and used it in my own design subsequently.

This is and probably will always be one of my favourite pieces of design and inspiration to me as well as being a great album of music by Joy Division. This piece is always in the back of my mind and I often use it as inspiration for my work and I did for the tote bag design I did for “Who’s The Fairest Of Them All?”.

Whilst looking for design inspiration I found this poster, I love the effect it has and the style acted as inspiration to me when designing the visual style for the interactive exhibition “Who’s The Fairest Of Them All?” I liked the way the lines interfere and lay on top of the typography whilst the text is somewhat contained in the grid behind and the general feel it gives like it’s messily scrawled on the page in ink.

Inspiration Behind My Design 2

Whilst looking for design inspiration I found this poster, I love how typography and layout are used in it and this acted as inspiration to my “Who’s The Fairest Of Them All?” project. I was particularly inspired by the unconventional use of text alignment and spacing, the lines in-between the type at the top of the poster also acted as inspiration to my poster too. You can see my finished poster design it inspired along with other material in past blog posts.

Inspiration Behind My Design
A little while ago I went to a Post Malone concert and when I was there I bought some merch including a t-shirt. I love the design on the back of the shirt, the way the graphic is layered on top of the text. This inspired me and was in my mind when I was designing the poster for the interactive exhibition I named “Who’s The Fairest Of Them All?” which you can see the progress of on my blog as I go along. The design also stuck out to me because of the quality of the material used and the printing, the graphics are slightly raised from the fabric created by using a different form of printing to the text behind and this lead to me considering the quality and finish of my tote bag in more depth. In the end I decided to choose a premium heavyweight cotton for my tote bag and to get my design embroidered onto the fabric which has a high quality feel to it.

Progress Review 10
After feedback from peers I decided that I had too much text that nobody would read and so included a map of the exhibition instead and moved the text to somewhere that filled another space that looked good aesthetically so wouldn’t matter if nobody read it because it serves a different purpose than to inform. I have also played around with the colours and finally have something I am happy with. My next aim is to start progress with the website which will mean gaining an understanding of coding which is something completely new to me.

I have now started collecting examples and thinking of ideas for my catalogue and have produced some paper mockups of potential folds for it and have chosen the one I want the form of my catalogue to be. The design I have chosen uses cut-outs that create the layers used on the poster. I have set out the artwork for the cover so that it works and have begun to fill the rest of the space with content, at the moment I am a bit unsure what content to include in it and where to put it so my aim is to decide these things and complete the design so I can begin thinking about the website.

Progress Review 8
Since my last post I showed the design for my tote bag to a lecturer and peers to get feedback on it, the feedback I received was that it was a little too different from my posters design style and that I needed to make it more coherent. So I have since taken the design and altered it to be more similar to the poster, I decided to come away from the geometric design I had and use the netting element from the poster to contain the illustration. Then I used repetition which is a theme taken from the poster to make up the new look design. Some of the feedback I received commented on the amount of colours and the fact that it might be difficult to print that many so I produced more print friendly designs that contained less colours. Now my aim is to start my catalogue design.

Progress Review 7

Since my last post I have been developing a design for the tote bag, first I looked at the content I had already produced when designing the poster and considered if I could use any of that so I have a couple of options already, but I want to explore something more illustrative now the brief allows me too. So I have been working on an illustration that shows the character of Snow White how she is visualised in the story or at least how Disney have visualised the character and placed a modern day person or version next to each other to show the difference between the two and to modernise the image more and bring the story into the modern day as the messages are still and always will be relevant. My aim is to continue developing the design further.

Since my last post I have been developing my poster and have now got something I am happy with that is developed to a good standard. After playing around with layers I have added an edge to the design that it didn’t have before and after that all I needed to do was add a finishing touch which I did by adding the stickers, they just add that extra dimension and the added colour will help when designing other aspects of the exhibition content. My next task is to start designing the tote bag, the poster had to have an emphasis on typography but the tote can be more graphic if we want it to so the design has even more possibilities, I just need to make sure anything I design is coherent to the poster to maintain the visual style.

Progress Review 5

After researching typographic posters and collecting examples I have been experimenting and developing my own typographic designs that are forming the overall style of my exhibition and is coming together to make an interesting and effective poster. I have now produced enough content to make up a poster and have been playing around with layout to make something I am happy with and now I have moved on to experimenting with colour and different colour combinations. Then I quickly moved onto choosing the combinations I thought worked well and established the colours for my exhibition’s visual style. My next aim is to have a final poster design that I am happy with and developed to a good point.

I recently wrote about how I started to explore one of the poster ideas I had written down and was not happy with it so far. I showed my work to some of my peers and received the same feedback I gave myself in my last post and so I started to explore another idea. I have now taken a different approached and have begun experimenting with typography to inform the design and this has worked well I feel, after experimenting a little with some suggestions I received from peers that didn’t quite work as well as I hoped, the work I’m now developing is going in the right direction.

Progress Review 3

For my Design Practice Module I have been collecting images of art and illustrations inspired by the story of Snow White to see what imagery other artists have used to give me an idea of what visuals I could use. From this I have now made a list of ideas for a poster design to start exploring, I have started to visualise one idea from the list but am not too sure it is having the right impact I want it to have and that it is expressing what I want it too. I feel like the style is not modern enough and doesn’t have any reference to the modern day which is what I want so I think I will start exploring a different idea.
