So I’m watching Fullmetal alchemist for the first time. (Slight spoilers)

The disability representation is good. So many characters accept their new bodies (the guys that are part animals, Al and Ed, Lin etc.). When Al said he could learn to love his life in the suit I wanted to cry. I fully believe that if his soul rejecting the suit wasn’t a concern he would have just lived his suit.

I had heard it was a good show in terms of having a bunch of disabled people, but the realism in the little moments gets me.

It’s the moments when Ed learns the new limits of his body (dessert and cold). It’s the dry heaving in the rain. When he hears that Lin is fighting only 7 months after losing her arm, he is worried because he has been there. He knows the danger of pushing yourself. It’s the casual way he refers to his stumps. It’s the way he takes the same position whenever Winry works on his arm (it’s routine to him).

I also love that Ed needs more sleep and food than most people (because he is supplying the nutrients to his body and Al’s).

If you haven’t watched the show yet, please do. It feels like a show written about disabled people for disabled people.
