May 3 - 27, 2013 @ 3LD Art & Technology Center, NYC
Opening Reception May 2, 2013 Click HERE for more information.
In the late 1800s, immigrants from the Arab World began settling in lower Manhattan. Their entrepreneurial spirit transformed the neighborhood, which came to be known as Little Syria, into a thriving community lined with shops, restaurants and coffeehouses, each furnished with signs written in their native Arabic. Here Arab Americans raised their families, educated their children, formed religious and community organizations and gradually became part of the life of New York.
Although razed to make way for the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and later the World Trade Center, the impact of this community resonates in the current Arab American community of New York and the dozens of similar communities nationwide. This exhibition documents the life of this immigrant community, recognizing Little Syria’s contribution to the city of New York, its connections to the Arab World, and its legacy across the United States.
Friday, May 3, 2013 - Monday, May 27, 2013 3LD Art & Technology Center 80 Greenwich Street, New York, NY 10006 Click HERE for more information of public programming related to Little Syria, NY: An Immigrant Community's Life & Legacy.

THE PASSION PROJECT
Carl Th. Dreyer’s immortal classic The Passion of Joan of Arc is known as the last great silent film. It is an artifact that has endured a similar fate as the woman the film portrays. It remains one of the most fascinating portraits of emotion ever captured on film.
Dreyer released this film in 1928. The master negative was lost to fire that same year. This forced Dreyer to release a second film cut from his outtakes. This negative was lost to fire in 1935. Many “bastardized” prints circulated around Europe and the United States until in 1980, a print believed to be from the master negative, was found in a broom closet of a mental institution in Oslo, Norway.
On stage THE PASSION PROJECT is a performance installation forty minutes in length. The film is used as the genesis for a projection environment. This environment captures the close quarter combat between Joan and her interrogators. It explodes the film into the three dimensions; placing the audience inside the film, sitting next Joan, subjecting them to the relentless rhythm of 30mm film projection.

Leo Caillard - Art Games (2011)
“Artists have used Apple products to create gorgeous works of art and have featured the devices themselves as pieces of sculpture. There’s even an Apple store at the Louvre museum in Paris.
But what happens when you create a museum layout taking cues from the minimalistic user interface familiar to millions of Apple customers? Caillard has done exactly that with his series of digitally enhanced photographs that re-imagine the Louvre museum.
Caillard’s images show museum patrons interacting with priceless paintings the way someone might browse through slides in a personal iTunes library on a device like an iPhone or MacBook.”

Books: Andy Sewell - The Heath
“Hampstead Heath was once part of the countryside surrounding London and is now a green fragment deep within the urban landscape. It is a place of ancient trees, tall grass and thickets dense enough to get lost in – if only briefly. I go to the Heath to be somewhere that feels natural, yet I know this is no pathless wood. The Heath is as managed as any other part of London but managed to feel wild.
In a way this project is about perceptions of what is natural, but it’s also an attempt to explore what EO Wilson called the human condition of “Biophilia”, being drawn to somewhere that feels natural without knowing why. Over the last five years I have spent many hours walking on the Heath. With this set of pictures I hope to convey something of what I was looking for and what I found.”
