kyoani
hey guys. i haven’t been active on here for a hot second. but after hearing what happened at kyoani studios, i felt like i just had to come back. it’s unreal to me that so many of the kyoani staff were killed in essentially the blink of an eye. what makes it worse was how closeknit everyone was there. they all grew together, and formed their own family producing all these masterful projects. k-on, of course, being the standout for me. i made this account when i was a middle schooler. i’m now a junior in high school. it almost feels as if that one sliver of childhood magic i held onto for so long has been corrupted by humanity’s hands. as someone who also lives in america, i almost thought i was become sensitized to all these mass shootings and attacks. but every time they happen, they seem to dig deeper and get more personal to me, targeting those i keep close to my heart. which is absolutely insane. i can’t imagine the absolute heartbreak the staff must be feeling. it already hurts as a loyal fan to think about the lives lost, lives that dedicated themselves to creating art that will last them far beyond their years on earth. i want to end this on an okay note, and that’s the best that i can really come up with. the kyoani staff was and always will be incomprehensibly special. every single employees passion shines through in all of the work they produce. you can tell that they love what they do. and i’m glad that those who were killed were able to establish some semblance of legacy before they passed. rest in peace to every single victim of the attack. and to those who survived, the rest of the world has our arms open to you.

its been pointed out before but the “analysis” behind anti-civ is actually what could be called “materialist” but perhaps not intentionally so, and it diverges from marx because obviously marx was not right about everything, yet the people still trying to pass themselves off as hardline “materialists” come up with the most idealist bullshit imaginable. for instance the idea that capitalism is just wasteful and polluting because capitalists apparently just don’t know how to recycle or something or are unwilling to spend the money to be less wasteful, but the application of socialist minds to problems of capitalist excess will make everything function more efficiently and somehow carbon neutrally? as if the problems of mass industrial society can just be thought away by socialist scientific brilliance??
anti-civ folks are actually incredibly concerned with the so-called “material reality” we face, we just aren’t trying to jumpstart centuries old ideas that might not have aged super well by now, and we don’t go out of our way to point out how scientific our analysis is or whatever and we don’t paper over the unavoidably bad aspects of mass society and industrialization for ideological convenience
