Ive never really met anyone that thought of ribs as interesting… that’s such a shame. Ribs and the things they do are fascinating…. I think about them everyday.

Tardigrade translates roughly to “slow stepper”, and by golly is this little man stepping slowly.
Take a break, this cute tardigrade needs time to cross your dash:

This is such a cool way of teaching biology! Some interesting creature designs, too.

Part of an educational project I collaborated on with Tyler Rhodes; children used evolutionary principles to design their own life-forms, and I then painted a selection of them :)

Get that grass. Get ‘em.
so many creatures putting SO much effort into putting ‘special’ fluids that TOTALLY aren’t water through every organ possible to clean them so they can use them again 2 seconds later. like why not simply sit on a damp substrate and pull water through your body by evaporating the extra out pores in your leaves lmaoooo

I took my second ADHD pill a little too late I guess because it was suddenly 4 am and I made this thing about why parasitic organisms are shaped like ways and how to consider that for your fiction settings. Raw text version below the cut for people with busted seeing:

edit: people are starting to say some "my worst nightmare" or "eeeww no that one is yucky and scary" comments on this like they do on any bug post and id like to say. it's fine if you don't like bugs it's fine if you're scared of bugs but don't put that on MY post clearly talking about how much i like them and how cute i think they are. you can make your own damn post about how much you hate wasps or spiders or whatever. i'm blocking people who make these kinds of comments.

I have come into possession of an ornithology book from the 1930's and they had such a way of describing birds back then, modern publishers of birding booking should take note! Here are some of the bangers.

Little bird boy!!!
Tumblr media
So I saw @mambodork 's post last night and I loved it and it affected me on some deep internal level. So today I woke up and before I knew it I'd drawn this because my brain went "ough what are the intermediary stages between bald, wrinkly baby bird Grian and standard avian Grian".
My general thoughts were that avians pretty slowly grow in feathers (and hair lol) compared to standard birds that do it over the first month or so. They're sort of in the ugly duckling stage until about age 7 (give or take), at which point they've built up a base level of soft feathery down but haven't grown in their flight feathers yet, so are still nestlings that can't fly. At about ages 10/11, their wings are mostly fully grown, allowing them to fly, making them fledglings . Awkward bird puberty done just in time for human puberty to start a couple of years down the line! Yippee!!!
Also I just headcanon Grian fidgets with the hem of his jumper a lot.
