That's the issue. Ragemate has become their hyperfixation. They latch onto whatever their favorite YouTuber tells them to get mad about

This really reminds me of the people who say they are fans of The Lord of the rings basically because it makes them feel smart or Superior. When in reality they aren't really fans of Lord of the rings so much as they are fans of looking Superior to others.
I have had many of those sorts of interactions with folks who play things like vampire the masquerade and for years it gave me a bad taste in my mouth. Whenever I would see a vtm book or see people even playing vtm. They believe that because their game is about more than kicking ass and getting treasure that it somehow made them Superior or a little bit better.
Like me and my group were childish little knaves simply pretending to play an RPG while they were the big bad grown ups playing a real man's tabletop RPG. Meanwhile, almost every time we would play at this game shop one or two of these people would always hang around our table for at least 30 to 45 minutes listening to us because we were having such a blast.
And even within the dungeons and dragons community, there is plenty of elitism as you have said. Most of it that I have experienced is edition. Elitism. You have the 3.5/pathfinder guys who think their version of the game is the be all end-all and the rest of us are again little children. I have even found myself thinking very similar things towards people who played 4th edition in the past until I actually read a little bit of fourth edition and played a couple of sessions of it and there are things about it that I really like such as the minion system, which gives bosses a bunch of little one HP minions that basically make the party feel like the protagonists from The Lord of the rings series just mowing down enemies by the hundreds
About your post about perceived elitism, would be it be accurate to say that it is the D&D players who are (or desire to be) elitist? In a delusional sense?
Because it REALLY does sound like people who want to be smart, insightful, wield knowledge like power and prestige, without ACTUALLY doing any work or going out of their depth. Because, like, so many D&D posts tend to go into rule thumping and the like, regardless of what's going on.
I wonder if that ties into the fear of being seen as ""childish"" for playing make belief without the D&D coating. "No, MOM, it's for REAL adults look I can quote RULES from a BOOK"
I have written about this before, but like while D&D players are not elitist as a rule there are many little manifestations of elitism that are pretty prevalent parts of present day mainstream D&D culture. These include the idea that the dungeon crawl, the game style that D&D best supports, is somehow pedestrian and that games must somehow offer something more to justify themselves as "real" RPGs, as well as well the perceived separation between "roleplaying" and "roleplaying." D&D culture is full of toxic memes like this that have originally arisen out of looking down at D&D and which D&D fans unironically regurgitate because they feel the need to justify that their D&D isn't that bad, old D&D which is nothing but combat and contextless dungeon-crawling.
It does also tie into a desire to play pretend with your friends but with an air of there being something more to it, while also having absolute disdain for the medium and its artistic potential. But I feel the clearest manifestations are the toxic "roleplaying not rollplaying" memes.
And yes, it also betrays a very myopic understanding of RPGs as a medium. It's all very silly.

Honestly, her owner, if she wasn't such a sweetheart, we should be legally able to smash Elon musk's kneecaps with a hammer
I am grateful that Kabosu did not live to see this heinous disrespect upon her likeness and regret only that she cannot bite bite bite kill Elon herself

You know if this whole your body my choice thing has any sort of positive tilt to it at all. At least it's pushing more left leaning folks to arm themselves. I have been preaching for decades that left ist. Need to stop buying into the Democratic parties, gun banning solution and arm themselves. The fascists do not need to be the only ones capable of harm
respectfully, if men can say “your body, my choice” i guess it’s only fair that we say to them “my gun, your life”

Some of the one-piece fan fiction I've read about their journeys back to the archipelago after their training sessions is still some of the most compelling stuff I've ever read
My favorite thing about fanfic authors is they can identify any gap in a canon timeline where characters are offscreen and exploit the ever living fuck out of it
They see a time skip of any length and go

Teaching my kids that Hamilton likely was not really a real God is 100 percent the will of Satan and everything Orwell warned us about
freezing cold take here but maybe religious medical discrimination is bad actually and you should in fact not be allowed to deny someone medical care that you personally don't agree with.

I have been told this so many times by players who did not like a call that I had made. Whether it be telling somebody that no, they cannot play as a gym from Steven universe in my D&D game because it made no sense. Only to be told well a good DM could fit it in. I just replied. Well I guess I'll have to be a bad DM
With regards to this post, I think the people saying "a good DM could make it work" do have an answer to the question of "but why would they?" But their answer is, basically, because it's a lot of work.
There are a lot of what I would call "hustle culture DMs," people for whom the amount of work and effort they put into their campaign is intrinsically good, proof of them being good DMs. Doing less work, even if it accomplished an equally good (or better!) end result, would be bad. The point is the grind, that's what proves how good they are.
And like hustle culture bros, they're mostly full of shit, they're not actually doing what they advocate for, and those who are doing it are burning themselves out for absolutely nobody's benefit. You should treat people telling you that "a good DM could make it work" the same way you treat people telling you to sleep four hours a day so you can focus on your side hustles.

It also did not help at all that she was literally picked 4 months before the bloody y election. Everyone thought the entire time was going to be Biden versus Trump and then it ended up being Harris versus Trump and let's face it. Americans are not ready for a female president. We may have made leaps and bounds and so many other areas, but there is still a very large and ignorant portion of our population that still believes that women are too emotional to be president. While at the same time they will vote for a man who every time he faces even a tiny little bit of criticism. He breaks down and goes on social media rants that can sometimes last for days
Crazy how kamala Harris had a landslide win guaranteed when she first announced her campaign and then completely fucked herself in every way trying to appeal to republicans and moderates and racists and fascists and genociders and etc. nice job

HELL FUCKIN YEAH!!!!!!!!!
And in a way it's sad isn't it? I know most of my LGBT friends from school all loved HP bc of all the found family dynamics and when you're a kid you don't really see all the glaring issues.
She has thrown away being seen as the author of a generation to being a piece of shit on Xitter. At this point I'm waiting for Donnie boy to announce her as head of American Gender Studies
you can’t say “fuck jkr” and then post about being excited for the hp hbo reboot btw

It would be like only playing shoots and ladders and being really confused when people start talking about how they do their banking in Monopoly
"If you only play D&D you will end up with a very warped view of RPGs as a medium" is a pretty uncontroversial point, and to argue against that with "let people enjoy things" to me speaks of being uncomfortable with other people not validating your cursory understanding of the medium. By all means, play D&D, but also understand that if you come into a conversation about RPGs as a medium with only D&D as your frame of reference you are going to be very confused if you assume D&D is enough to prep you for conversations about gleeblor, and the other people involved in the conversation will probably think you're a bit of an ass.

She spent 2 years with this guy being abused and beaten secretly getting abortions every time she got pregnant because she didn't want to have children with this man and her parents didn't care one wit how she was treated
Hey i learned smth extra super fucked up about smth that 39 states in the US allow!

The way women view themselves as inferior will never not baffle me. Like you're actually going to openly admit you view yourself as lesser as a man simply because the plumbing is different? In my own mother looked me right in the eye and told me that she doesn't believe women have the emotional capacity to be president. While at the same time voting for a man who goes on childish rants on social media whenever he faces it, even the most minor of criticisms.
But this is how conservative women, especially in the Southern United States, where I live are brought up. It breaks my heart that my own mother basically believes that she should not be in politics because she has empathy. That she has been taught to believe that empathy and kindness and maybe even crying a little bit during a sad situation are all signs of weakness that disqualify women from being leaders. I have daughters and it breaks my heart that my mother who is their favorite person on the planet believes
