Duchess sat down on the warm cement, letting out a short sigh. Once again, she seemed to be lost. Oh, she had such a horrid habit of not being able to find her way home again, didn't she? Her blue eyes darted this way and that in an attempt to find some familiar landmark. However, the only thing she spotted was a dog in the distance.

She stilled, wary of the canine species and their tendencies to not act kindly towards cats. Her muscles tensed and she readied herself to sprint away at a moment's notice if such a thing should be required.

Madame was in the mood for some fresh air and sunshine. She loaded up her feline friends into the carriage and went on a tour of the countryside. They had stopped temporarily, having found a good place for picnicking. Duchess sat dutifully beside her owner, watching her kittens play in the grass. But her legs began to grow achy and she felt a need to stretch them.

As she took a short stroll through the field of flowers, she spotted movement near her feet. "Oh goodness!" she meowed, spotting the tiny person nearing her paw. Why, she had never seen someone so small. And to think she had almost stepped on the poor dear! "I do hope you are quite all right."

Her eyes are like { s a p p h i r e s } sparkling and bright.       They make the morning radiant and { l i g h t }.

She clicked her tongue, shaking her head at the orange kitten before her. "You should be enjoying spending time with your siblings. I'm sure Marie means no harm to your art, she's only curious."

"But if it bothers you so, I will see to it that Marie -- and Berlioz as well -- are aware your paints are off limits."

"So, does this mean that Marie can’t come near my paints anymore?"

"Thomas, it's not very nice to lead a lady on like that," she teased as he bat at her yet again. This time she reciprocated in her own way, lifting her paw that wasn't covered by his own to gently nudge at his nose. It wasn't a real swipe, for after all she was a proper cat, but the intent was the same nonetheless.

Twisting her hips so that she was lying more on her side than her belly, she used the tomcat as a makeshift pillow, her smaller frame leaning against his side. "The city looks beautiful tonight."

                    “Maybe one day, baby. Maybe one day.” A salmon colored tongue swiped out over Duchess’ nose. He pawed at the fluff the came out from her cheeks, then finally rested his paw on the top of hers. Amber eyes fell shut, and a sigh escaped him. A content sigh. A cool breeze washed over them both.

                    Rolling back onto his belly, he nudged his face close to her own, their shoulders pressed against one anothers. Sitting atop this rooftop, looking up at the sky felt nostalgic. Back when he was still an alley cat, a ruffian, and she was a lost mother just wanting to get back home.

"I'm afraid I must be." Her response came as a meow, and she didn't expect the stranger to understand. But she couldn't help but acknowledge the question in any case. After all, that was the proper thing to do.

“Well hello. Are you lost?”
