What Life Is Like for @tromsoarcticreindeer
To learn more, follow @tromsoarcticreindeer on Instagram.
Reindeer herding is part of a long family tradition, passed down from generation to generation. “You always learn from older people, the reindeers themselves, the nature and by your own experience,” says 34-year-old Johan Oskal of Tromsø Arctic Reindeer (@tromsoarcticreindeer).
Johan and his family are part of the Sami people, an indigenous group that have lived in Arctic Europe since prehistoric times. Just like their ancestors, his family continues to herd thousands of reindeer every year, but they also host adventures in Norway, so people can experience what life is like for the reindeer and the Sami.
Johan’s favorite parts of his profession are the freedom of his days and working with nature. “I love to be out there with the reindeer, and when I see that the animals are good and safe, it warms my heart,” he says. “Come and visit my family, and we’ll tell you more.”

In 2018, I’m letting go. Letting go of what’s not meant for me. Letting go of my expectations or the things I thought I should accomplish by a certain age. I’m letting go of comparing my life to others and feeling like I’m far behind. I’m letting go of wanting things that shouldn’t be mine. I’m letting go of my fear of losing things or people and trusting that God will not take away something or someone from my life unless they were going to do more harm than good. I’m trusting God’s judgment because mine is flawed.
In 2018, I’m wishing for the best. I’ll stop being pessimistic. I’ll stop thinking of the worst-case scenarios. I’ll stop saying ‘why God?’ and start looking at the lessons he’s trying to teach me. I’ll start being more positive about the future because if God is writing my story, then it will surely be a beautiful one. It may not be an easy one, but I know it has a happy ending. I know it’s filled with dreams coming true and wishes being granted and miracles finding their way to me. I know it’s going to be a story worth living. I know it’s going to be a story of defeat leading to victory. A story of heartbreak followed by love. A story of despair turning into hope.
In 2018, I’m waking up. I’ll listen to the words he whispers to me. I’ll read his subtle signs. I’ll remember his words when I fail to write mine. I’ll find my answers with him. I’ll find my sanity in his wisdom. I’ll revive my soul with his love and I’ll heal my heart with his faith. In 2018, I’m counting on God to make me whole again. I’m done trying to do it myself. I’m done trying to pretend like I know what’s best for me when I have the ultimate teacher waiting for me to put all my faith in him and let him work his magic.

Keep going.
Because there is someone who loves you. Because whatever has happened to you does not determine where you will go. Because the past is the past. Because tomorrow is a new day. Because there is so much to celebrate. Because the leaves will fall and still the trees will stand proud. Because the angry words that left your lips can be restored with healing and love. Because the sun still rises, and so will you. Because mistakes, addictions, failure, defeat, death, sin, pain, and brokenness do not define you. Because there is hope. Because you are continually growing. Because nothing stays the same. Because there are flowers. Because there are long summer days and birds that sing. Because there’s a person out there longing to meet someone just like you. Because you have people who support you, no matter what. Because you are not alone in whatever you’re feeling. Because so many beautiful miracles have, can, and will happen for you. Because you are a child of God. Because people rely on you. Because you are strong. Because you create your self-worth by learning to accept yourself for all your parts and pieces. Because there is sunshine and rain. Because there are people you haven’t met and things you haven’t yet experienced. Look cool, not cold. For less. Because there are beautiful, unknown things to come. Because fear does not rule over you. Because there is sand to feel beneath your toes. Because forgiveness will set you free and help you restart. Because your story is not over yet. Because there are new beginnings in every step. Because strangers have yet to be blessed by your smile. Because there is music. Because you will heal. Because there are books to read. Because your skin needs to feel the sun. Because the words on your heart need to be written. Because you are unique, and no one can tell your tale as well as you can. Because happiness is found in the most unexpected of places. Because emotions are beautiful and wild and strange, and you deserve to experience them. Because there are sunrises and sunsets. Because there are concerts to attend. Because there is art to create. Because there is wine to sip and good food to taste. Because there are memories to be made. Because you are noticed and appreciated and valued. Because time is short and you don’t want to waste it. Because there are blessings all around you. Because you have a future to look forward to. Because you have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hands to touch the beauty around you. Because you have so much more to see, do, and feel.

I was in Myeong-dong this evening, visiting a dabang (old-school coffee shop) that’s been around since 1972, a holdover from a time when the neighborhood was full of such places.
Anyway, being a Saturday evening, Myeong-dong was even more packed than it usually is. Say what you will about the place, but it does exude an energy that makes it a fun place to walk around.

Documenting the Hajj Pilgrimage with Photojournalist @ahmadmousa
To see more of Ahmad’s work, follow @ahmadmousa on Instagram.
Photojournalist Ahmad Mousa (@ahmadmousa) works to tell the stories of people from different backgrounds. “My favorite subjects are people’s lives, how they are different from one community to another. What are the things that we don’t normally see or don’t know about?” he says.
Ahmad became interested in photography as a teenager, and at the age of 19 began his career as a photojournalist in his native country of Iraq. Now 26 years old, Ahmad recently traveled on assignment to document hajj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s largest annual gatherings of people. Despite the usual challenges of meeting deadlines for work, he says the experience of meeting the diverse people undertaking the five-day Islamic pilgrimage was incredible. “There were so many people there from different countries around the world,” says Ahmad. “Sometimes I’d try to talk to them, or they would try to talk to me, but we’d usually end up using hand signs because we didn’t speak each other’s language.”

Fall in love with someone who sees the wars within you and not only chooses to stay, but chooses to stand by your side and help you fight them. Strive to find someone who cradles your dark, who embraces your light, someone who always wants to be your best when you yourself are not your best; someone who reminds you of every strong thing you are.

Existence
Have you ever questioning your existence in this world? Like, why you're even here? What I am supposed to do? What I am destined for? Life is full of mystery indeed. Begitu banyak hal di kepala gw yang mempertanyakan, kenapa gw disini? Untuk apa? Kalau orang lain, di Instragram bisa memproklamirkan diri mereka sebagai Journalist, Artist, Singer and the other things that makes them got Verified (and an instantly famous) sign on this social media platform, then what am I to the world? Dan kalau semua orang tahu dengan pasti apa yang ditakdirkan untuk mereka lakukan, kenapa hanya beberapa orang aja yang di Verified? Back to my existence in this world, apa alasan di balik semua ini?

Under the Sea with Free Diver Sofía Gómez Uribe
Discover more stories from the Spanish-speaking community on @instagrames.
(This interview was conducted in Spanish.)
There’s a chance underwater athlete Sofía Gómez Uribe (@sofigomezu) is part mermaid. “I feel so at peace and just happy to feel the freedom of being under the sea,” says the 25-year-old from Medellín, Colombia, who holds three Pan-American records in competitive apnea (also known as free diving) — a sport where she descends deep into the ocean, without an oxygen tank.
“It’s what I like to do and what makes me get up in the morning,” says Sofía. “Apnea has taught me to get to know myself, to explore my weaknesses and strengths. Every day, I improve. I’ve learned to make progress and surpass my own limits.”

Hello there...how are you? I'm wondering if I still appear on your mind or not. Because, it happened to me. Everyday. I swear i'm trying to get rid of you out of my mind. But i think you left something that way too strong for me so that I'm not able to forget you. I know, it's obvious, you are the first of everything for me.
