Shri Suman Kumar Bery, Hon. Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, visited the MMRDA office today and met with Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA. The discussion focused on transforming the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) into a thriving growth hub by implementing the newly developed Economic Master Plan and fast-tracking critical infrastructure projects.

He commended MMRDA’s efforts in executing transformative initiatives like the Metro and Atal Setu-MTHL and expressed confidence in the organization’s ability to create growth centers while aligning with NITI Aayog’s vision.

The meeting marked a significant step toward strengthening collaboration for MMR’s sustainable development.

The “Times of India” carries an article on #MMRDA proposal to raise money through bonds. We are proposing to raise 14,000 crore INR bonds of a duration of 50 years, with a lock in period of 15 years and moratorium on payment of principal for 15 years. This is the first time in the history of the country that such an attempt of this duration is being made. The proposal is backed by MMRDA’s land assets and is with the Government of Maharashtra for final approval. If approved, it shall enable us to raise log term finance that will enable successful financing of long term infrastructure projects which traditionally have a long gestation period…

The Times of India carried this new article on the Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar Slum Rehabilitation project, which is the first of it’s kind undertaken by any Government agency. This is an absolutely new vertical that is being started. The only similar project of this type is the Thane Cluster Redevelopment Project which was undertaken by CIDCO during my stint as the CMD there. The project has been worked out as financially viable and has received offers from several banks for finance. It aims to transform one of the City’s oldest slums into a mixed use residential and commercial hub and rehabilitate around 16,575 slum dwellers..
