What is a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence?
If you are looking to drive larger vehicles professionally, from truck, minibus, bus to lorry. It is important that you acquire Driver CPC. The Driver Certificate of Professional competence allows you the legal ability to professionally drive heavy duty vehicles. If you do not hold this certificate you cannot commercially drive and it is important to know that the vehicles under 45km/h speed limit do not need Driver CPC.
Driver CPC is a test divided into two parts, the Theoretical and the Practical. The first part of the Theoretical part and the first part of the Practical part create the regular driving exam, however if the second parts are not finished within the first 2 years of the first parts of these two exams, you will have to redo everything to get a Driver CPC from the first test.
Theoretical Test
Theoretical exam in general comes in two parts, the Theory Questions and the Case study, it is important to understand that the first part is included in the normal licence, the theory questions are mandatory for anyone taking a driving exam, for professional or private purposes to pass.
· Theory
¾ Multiple Choice Questions
Multiple choice questions regarding the vehicle, laws and driving. It can also include the questions regarding your action in a situation, such as what you would do in an accident.
¾ Hazard Perception
Hazard perception is a simulation or a video of multiple hazards, there are total 1-2 hazards in each video and you can get 5 marks per video as the highest.
· Case Study
Case study provides you with multiple choices with detailed cases on a truck or lorry drive with different scenarios and you may need to choose one or more choices in each questions, there are a minimum of 6 choices each question. You need to score a total of 85% to pass this test.
Practical Test
· Practical
The Practical exam is basically the driving skills of the participant on the actual track. This is not only revolving around your driving skills but also how you handle the inside of the car, the mirrors, the gears, the seatbelt, etc. Everything is being noted and you need to be careful in your exam.
¾ Driving on road
Driving on a road can be difficult, you need to navigate your way through the heavy traffic demonstrate that you are capable of not crashing, burning and dying, or worse, killing.
¾ Driving off road
Driving off roads for Driver CPC is important, you may not be able to safely demonstrate your driving on the road so the course allows you to show things like parallel parking and the such.
¾ Regular Questions.
Regular questions will be asked and some of them can be confusing, such as “Why you did that”, it may not be a critique but you need to remain calm to gauge the sense of question.
· Demonstration of safety protocol
Demonstration of how you start the vehicle, how you check if the product is locked in place, if you do a walk around. According to Driver Hire Uxbridge, it is much more than that but you can ask them about it. This is just the highlight of everything.
