Seatwork in EAPP: Position Paper
Privacy Issues between Parents and Children
All of us need to have privacy sometimes, not every time and not anything can be shared to others even to your parents. There are things which are better kept only to yourself. For me, parents should respect the privacy of their children, not because they have this secret that they are hiding from them but because they also needs and deserves space and room for themselves, and when children feel that their parents have stepped over that border, invading their privacy boundaries, they’ll react negatively. Parents should understand that more because they’ve been also through adolescent where privacy issues usually happen. It is only natural that we would crave more privacy and space as we work things out
For the side of parents, I know they are just being protective and showing concern for their children but it is also important to acknowledge the fact that wanting more privacy does not necessarily mean their child has something to hide. Parents should not go prying around reading their children's diaries and private messages for instances. According to Pérez-fuentes et al (2020) parents giving their child some space and privacy can work wonders for their development. While in the other hand, Morelli (2019) stated that to invade their child's privacy without the child's consent or a valid reason is much the same as to invade their child's sense of self. Teens subject to unnecessary disturbance of privacy are possibly to feel invaded. This will damage the relationship and respect that were built up between children and parents and compromise their children's confidence in parents' suitability to function as their trusted guardians and consultant. Remember that parents giving their children privacy aren’t the same as giving them free rein. Hence, parents must find a way to balance their child’s need for privacy and their need to ensure their child’s safety and security.

1. What is a position paper?
For me, it is more of like a rational opinionated statement where you give your insights, point of views and of course opinions but it must be valid and logical. It is like you want to convince people to take your side on a certain topic. It is supported by various facts which can be the substratum for your side or argument
2. What are the steps in writing a position paper?
Choose and decide a topic, it must be where people would find strong interest on it. Gather sources in articles, journals or anywhere you can get valid evidences and sources, use the information you have gathered to write an outline using the information. Lastly is Final Proofread where you double check and run a spelling and grammar check, proof-read and read aloud to catch errors.
3. Is it necessary for a student to learn writing a position paper? Why?
Students nowadays need to learn how to write a position paper because they need to express more of their ideas and feelings and they can do it through writing a position paper. “When I See a Barong-barong” by Maximo Ramos
Marxist Criticism
The poem portrays a strong sense of nationalism, as it shows a positive concern for others during times of problems and depression. For me, the word barong-barong in the poem portrays the background of the author. As the author cited the abuses he and the people around him experienced throughout their lives, the cruelty, unfairness, slavery and injustices that they experienced, but instead of feeling pity, he was filled with honor and pride. What I like about the poem is that it encourages the people to face at the negative things in life and helps them to see the brighter side and beauty of it as well as to rise up from the problems and just continue living.

“How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife” By Manuel Arguilla
Formalist Criticism
The short story “How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife?” clearly shown that it doesn’t only focuses about love as it also exhibits the beauty of the nature, the author directly describes the sceneries but then again it does not only focus on nature’s aspect and love as it also shows the whole individuality and the uniqueness of the characters. It highlights the mood, the feelings and the impression of the character towards the society or the place he/she is at. It also showed us the good qualities of the people. The characters in the story have their own way of portraying themselves. First of all, we have Maria, as a city girl, going to a rural place for her was very difficult. Expressing her emotion was hard since she’s new to the environment, but with her love by her side, she felt strong and comfortable. She didn’t hide who she was but rather she showed Baldo what kind of person she really is. This way, she’s a lot freer to express herself. While on the other hand, Baldo showed his deep admiration for Maria on the way he describes her as they go on the journey together. The writer showed us the weights between reason and emotion. Deciding one’s path through reason needs to be more logical and comprehensive but when we decide using our emotions, we usually lose our ways. All in all, the literary piece was easy to understand because it was written using simple language and it draws out the reader’s imagination to recreate the scenes in the story. Because of the language that was used by the writer, he was able to connect and bring his readers in the setting of this story.

“How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife” By Manuel Arguilla
Reader Response Criticism
I found the story very interesting as it features a very timely conflict as people nowadays find it hard to find love and how to act when you are in love. We all know that having a long and strong relationship with the person you love is very seldom especially nowadays where almost anybody is temporary. But in the story, we can really perceive that Maria will sacrifice anything just to be happy with her only love. I can say that this love is actual and genuine. We can really see that this kind of love is truly authentic. I also like that the story showcased some Filipino cultures, such as the trait that it is a goal to obtain one’s trust especially when you want the authorization and consent of your parents to have the permission to marry your chosen loved one. As we all know, Filipino parents are very strict and hard to impress. It is also hard to get their faith and trust as well. But what Maria did in the test is something that we can really admire and that proved that she really deserved and loves Leon with all her heart. Her actions showed that she will really sacrifice anything just to be happy and be with her only love. I also like that the story also showed the virtue of living a life of contentment. We all know that Filipinos who live in the rural areas of the Philippines are very well known to be simple yet they are happy and contented for what they have. They are happy even with the smallest things and appreciate what they have and how they live their lives. All in all it is a good and very interesting story.

“How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife” by Manuel E. Arguilla
Feminist Criticism
In the story, we can see that Maria will sacrifice anything just to be happy with Leon, her only love. I like how the story portrayed to never judge a book by its cover and a little gender discrimination as Baldo, Leon’s brother, when he first saw Maria, was very shocked to see that his brother Leon is with a woman who is way too different from them because of her wealthy and beautiful appearance. Of course, as a person who lives in a province, I know that Baldo already has that mind set where people like Maria doesn’t belong to them and is impossible to adapt their way of living in their province. But eventually, Baldo somehow realized that Maria should be treated like them knowing that she proved herself worthy of it by doing and passing the test that his father ordered. I also like how the short story promotes that women are also strong and are also capable of doing things that men can do. Maria really serves as a model as she proves that she is not a superficial person and really is worthy and deserving to Leon.

“He Who Sleeps On My Lap”
Reader Response Criticism
The poem is very controversial as it depicts the different issues and burdens of people who are homosexual. I can say that it is not just an ordinary and typical love story for people tend to hide their true selves just to satisfy the society’s demand and point of views on gender. I like how the narrator showcased a tone of sadness as he realize that the dream of his/her will never come true. It shows that the narrator really bears the thought that his/her love could be given back in return. But then again, he is afraid to reveal and express his/her real feelings knowing that the guy in his/her lap is in love with somebody else.

Critique Paper about “He Who Sleeps on My Lap”
I figured it out right in the beginning that it is all about homosexuality, the poem is very emotive and very heartfelt. I appreciate how the narrator knows that what he wants is impossible because they have the same gender and you can really feel his emotions and his burden through his actions. Knowing the mind-set of people nowadays that only a man and a woman is the correct and appropriate thing, he just hides his feelings towards his male friend and realizes that his dream will never come true.

Yes, utilizing academic textbooks are still necessary for maybe some students even today where we consider internet as a much easy way to gain information. We all have different kinds of learning strategies so we can say that some students still prefer using academic textbooks rather than browsing the internet. Reading academic textbooks still have that different approach of learning than using the internet. There are also some information and terms that are only present at academic texts, considering that some information in the internet are not trusted because anyone have the power to edit it anytime. In terms of reliability, academic textbooks are proven to be more reliable than the internet which is conventional

It also shows how Filipinos can sacrifice their own time and wants in life in going abroad just to help their families left in the Philippines.
