❝ i dunno! whatever trouble. i don't know how crazy this place is yet. ❞ who knows! this place could be a total shitshow and she'd have no idea until shit started happening.
"I think it's crazy in an interpersonal way, like you never know who from your past you're gonna run into, and it could happen today, tomorrow, or never. Just depends on who they are and what position the sun is in the sky. Least that's how Solo puts it. He was honestly surprised to see me reappear all things considered." Dresden posited.
They would probably be fine in the long run, neither of them had lived long enough to have ties to anyone other than the other members of the Court, wherever the hell they were.
"What possible trouble could I get into? Hm? Unless for some reason I end up in a firefight with another inquisitor on my ass, I think I'll be fine!" He hoped. Honestly, Dresden was... stressed doing nothing, but he'd managed so far and he liked to think that was enough of an accomplishment to earn him some benefit of the doubt.

even pyper rolled her eyes at that claim. but she wasn't going to verbally argue, though usually she definitely would. bd already said enough for her! ❝ whatever. i'll put money on the fact that you're gonna be a bigger disaster here than i will be. ❞

"Oh please," he said. "I have never kicked up a fuss ever." BD-3 chirped in disagreement and Dresden tapped him on the head. "Besides, who said anything about babysitting, maybe I just want to know where to set up my lawn chair and popcorn?" He added.

❝ you don't need to babysit me. i'm an adult, remember. a far more mature one than you, actually. ❞ she was usually too paranoid to act out, though she might just go a little fucking insane thanks to everything that happened. she deserved to go a little insane.

Dresden hissed out of necessity, but it didn't actually hurt, now that she wasn't wearing her usual steel toe boots. "Ah, you and I know you'd burn the planet down if I didn't hold you back by your collar sometimes. Might as well be me until you can meet up with Atlas." He joked.

❝ well if you needed inspiration to leave, i suppose i can be fine fodder. ❞ she knew he was teasing, but hell, whatever made him happy. she kept sipping at her drink before kicking him in the ankle.

Dresden took a sip of his drink as he mulled it over. "Maybe, but you're here so that remains to be seen," he said with a bit of smirk creeping onto his lips as he took another sip of his drink, bracing for her to wack him. It's what they did after all.

she nodded a little. she always felt like she was running too, so this would be interesting. especially given the whole serkay issue. ❝ who knows. maybe this'll be better than running. ❞ she could think of a few things that were better than running, maybe they'd find it here. worth a shot, right?

"Hard to tell," he said. "It's been the longest I've ever stayed in one place, that's for sure. So it's just... different. Even before I was drafted into all of this, mum and I never stayed in one place for too long. Like she was running from something." He added.

her brows furrowed. lobsters? she wasn't gonna ask. it was hardly the most important detail of the conversation. true, she should probably be a little more freaked out than she was about the whole 'coming back to life' thing. but she'd seen far stranger. hell, she bound a goddess. nothing could really faze her in that way anymore. ❝ mm. and are you alright with that? ❞ she asked, taking a sip of her drink. it was intense for the first thing she'd tasted in several decades, but it was good.

"Wookiees can live basically forever, like... lobsters or something, and Solo came back like me so... hard to tell." He joked. When she asked about him, he shrugged and was thankful the bartender came back with their drinks. "Not much. I'm... I'm drifting I guess," he said. "Miss being able to run, but... I don't know, no place to run to now. Plus I'm starting to get training, which is an improvement over where I was I guess.." It was a lot of half answers but he didn't have anything stronger than that.

pyper absently toyed with one of bd's little feets. ❝ solo and chewy, huh. that's somethin'. think they'd be dead by now, but solo's slippery and chewy's actually smart. guess it makes sense that they made it by. ❞ she looked over at dresden for a moment. ❝ besides all of 'em, what's going on with you? actually. not the cliffsnotes. ❞

Dresden sat next to her and BD-3 popped off his shoulder to sit on the bar and lowered himself into a close equivalent of a sitting position. The bartender took their order, tonight was the galaxy print Mando with an infectious grin who Dresden swore he knew the name of, but could never remember when he was looking directly at her. "Solo's around, working for the Resistance on a technicality. Same with Chewy." He said.

pyper nodded. ❝ seems easy enough... ❞ though of course that was only going to be proven through practice, something she wasn't exactly thrilled about. she sat down at the bar, taking in the sights. this place didn't seem bad -- it was definitely more spiritually familiar to the hangouts she frequented, so that helped. bars were more or less the same across the galaxy. she liked that -- she liked when things were familiar.

BD-3 gave his own version of a salute and Dresden chuckled a little at his droids antics. "The low down? Steer clear of the buckets, talk to the Mandos if you want in with them, remind me tomorrow I'll show you where the force users are hanging out, and uh... oh, if you want to help out the crime syndicate, talk to the bartender," he said as they came up on the Starbird. "He may not look like much, but he's pretty impressive."

❝ let me know if you ever need rescuing, scuttlebutt, i got your back. ❞ she directed towards the droid. to dresden, pyper snorted. ❝ impressive. ❞ they teased each other plenty, but it was an honest word towards him. she was glad he was getting by without too much suffering, that's all they could ever ask for, right? ❝ so, what's the lowdown around here -- anything i should watch out for? anyone i should gravitate to? ❞ she could see mandalorians milling about, that was definitely a trip.

I suffer, that's how. "Oi, watch it," he said with a tap to BD-3's head. "In all honesty, I've just can't be bothered. There's the occasional thing to do, and I've gotten some force training, so that's a good thing."

❝ and you don't have the balls to steal one, i forgot. ❞ she smacked his arm before heading into town, looking with more detail at everything. as difficult of a transition as it had been, she was a damn good pirate, all things considered. ❝ bd, how do you tolerate him? i'm shocked you do. ❞

❝ you're lucky i'm not adding interest. ❞ she looked out at the town, a little half-smile on her face. it was... nice. quaint. better than the places she'd frequent with serk and taliyah. ❝ i didn't think you'd want to live somewhere so little. or maybe you would... hm. ❞

Dresden scoffed a little, "Jeez I help wake you up from a carbonite nap and you're immediately calling your drink tab, this is what you get for helping people Beads," he said directed at the droid on his shoulder. But if you pay it now, you won't have to worry about it later. "My droid raises a good point, very well." He said with an amused look.

maybe the less she dwelled on it all, the better off she'd be. she had a tendency to hyperfixate on the problems, so she had to do the opposite this time around. it would ruin her otherwise. ❝ oh duh. you owe me from last time. as if i'd forget. ❞ she also never forgot anything. a real pain.

❝ still space garbage. just not freeze fried anymore. ❞ pyper stood, still a little wobbly but able to keep herself up without aid. ❝ i need to eat and see just how far humanity's fallen... care to join me? ❞ she missed squabbling with him. she wouldn't mind a companion for a bit, even if it was him.
Dresden pulled himself to standing behind her and chuckled. "Sure, someone's gotta show you where the bar is." He said as BD-3 chirped.
Forward, drink!
"Yeah, what he said," Dresden said with a chuckle.
Dresden chuckled a little, "I'll drink to that," he remarked. It sucked, seemingly perpetually for people like them, a misplaced Mandalorian and a guy who couldn't catch a break. "How ya feeling so far?" He asked with a slight head tilt.
-
❝ starting to see, ❞ she answered, her voice still sounding a little weak. she wiped her face off of any remaining tears. she looked over at him. ❝ i still don't know if i should thank you for freeing me from that... awful thing. but we can go with that. ❞
she reached out and gripped his forearm, the mandalorian greeting and show of thanks. ❝ i'm glad you're not dead anymore. ❞

"Always a good sign," he said as BD-3 tapped danced a little in celebration.
He accepted the grip on his forearm with ease, as much as they took the piss out of each other, there was a sort of kinship between the youngest members of the Brethren Court.
"Glad you're no longer freeze dried space garbage." He joked with a grin.

pyper really needed more training, she figured atlas was probably around here somewhere -- if that man survived through the millennia then surely he was here. ❝ fuck it all. just... fuck it all. ❞ she ran a hand through her hair and took a big breath, finally starting to feel some modicum of equilibrium.

"How ya feeling so far?" He asked with a slight head tilt.
Dresden shrugged a little and BD-3 chirped in indignation. "Some of the force users still around describe the force more like an ocean or a monster. It doesn't have friends, just people it has uses for." He remarked. It was kind of shit, but it was better than being the failure of some grand destiny, thinking himself on a smaller scale had done wonders for his mental health actually and was probably for the best all things considered.

pyper gave an absent nod. fuckin' hell. so much time, lost for good. she wasn't sure if she should be glad or not -- because living in her time was hell enough. but this didn't seem better either -- though it would have to wait until she could go around and see for herself. the voices bothered her so. why wouldn't they leave her alone. but she could finally see, so that was nice. ❝ i don't understand... any of this. thought we were friends of the force. this doesn't seem very... friendly. ❞

Dresden did some quick math as BD-3 chirped 37 ABY, and he sort of pointed "yeah, that. And uh... a lot but not much? Like, allegedly, the empire fell, but there're still fucking buckets out there doing god knows what. And there're mandos too, and they seem like they're okay, but... I don't know anything actually, that's gonna have to be a you inquiry Pips." He said. "Couple more force users too, most're keeping on the down low, but they're around if you know where to find them."

all she wanted to do right now was find a way to make all the pain and weird feelings go away. but she couldn't, it wouldn't just disappear, it wouldn't ease, it was just... always. would it always be like this? ❝ how long was i in there? where are we now, what's... what's different? ❞

He sighed and let a weak scoff escape him, "well, it wasn't my idea of a good time either." He said. Sometimes, if he thought about it too hard, he could still feel the saber burned into his gut. BD-3 tapped on his shoulder and Dresden shook his head out. "But, that was then. We gotta figure out now. That... doesn't immediately involve killing Serkay. That can be... I don't know day three or something." He said with a shrug.
