It hadn't been a very high fall, but the unexpectedness of being seen and caught had caught Thane off-guard. The worst of it was the fact that he'd landed on his arm, pinning his hand and causing it to go numb. Bruising will likely be the result, he thinks, but that's not a concern. Now that the danger is passed and he's cradling his injured hand, the actual pain has started to kick in.

“I am fine, Shepard.” Fine being relative, these days — it’s not as though something this small will hasten the inevitable. He quirks a brow at her concern, holding his hand a little closer to his chest. A few moments, the numbness of the fingers will go away, he tells himself, flexing them to get the feeling back. As the buzzing-sting recedes, he speaks up once more.

“Though I  feel as though I should ask the same of you. That was not an easy escape — are you hurt?”

Like, Thane was given up by his parents when he was six. I don't know how early eidetic memory kicks in for drell, but I can't imagine Thane kept much of that memory anyway after the Hanar started training him. Kolyat on the other hand gets to vividly remember all the times Thane was there, and then when he ... Wasn't, anymore.

3am at work perfect time to think about Thane trying to be a good dad, gifting Kolyat something he remembered from his childhood. A toy or figure of something childish Kolyat liked. And Kolyat getting mad at first because his dad has been gone half his life and this is all he can think of? But when he cools off ( that community service gives him time to think ) he realizes Thane is trying and the only way he's going to learn more about him is if they spend time together. His dad loves him, he just has no idea how familial love works.
