Charlie didn’t know why he invited his work crush to the quittidtch World Cup with him but he did. Now he found himself running through the tent grounds with his terrified crush clinging violently to his arm for safety and warmth. He blasted a few death eaters in their way and ran as quickly as he could back to safe ground so he could apparate back to the burrow.

Charlie finally got on a hill but there were two death eaters following him. He turned around and pulled his wand back out. You wanted to help but you didn’t have the energy or courage to get up from your place in the grass.  Soon the death eaters were gone and Charlie kneeled back next to you on the grass, inspecting you for injuries. When he realized there were none he apparated you back to the burrow.

Two long hours later you and Charlie and all the others that went with you were safely at the burrow watching a muggle film. You were tucked under Charlie’s arm still clinging to him while you two squeezed in an armchair together.

Charlie looked down at you and giggled slightly, making you look up to him questioningly until you realized you still had his arm.

“Hey, Y/n, can I have my arm back? I promise I’ll give it to you again I just want  to get us some popcorn.” You blushed furiously and let go. Charlie wasn’t lying though. He got pop corn came back, and gave you his arm back.

Dear fanfic readers...

I want to start this by saying I love you all. Seriously. I honestly wouldn’t still be writing fanfic if you guys didn’t exist. And I think that’s probably true of a lot of writers. We thrive on readers enjoying our work, leaving kudos/comments, reblogging, sharing with friends, etc. And 99% of people who read/comment don’t fall into this category. 

But I have to address something. Er, I have to address a few somethings. Tonight, one of my dear friends received a nasty comment on one of their fics. It was, frankly, a mean rant disagreeing about the choices said writer made in the chapter update. But what really struck me was what they said at the end of the comment—that they admire the author’s work and that they are excited about future chapters. Which to me, meant that they meant their comment as a constructive criticism rather than to be purposefully hateful. 

Which leads me to my first “something”: 

Long comments about things you personally disagree with in a story is not constructive criticism. 

I say this as someone who gives actual constructive criticism to writers for a living. Calling someone’s work horrible or hollow or misguided or flat or [insert long list of other adjectives I’ve seen non-writers call someone’s work] isn’t constructive criticism. It’s not constructive. It’s just mean. 

Moreover, constructive criticism has to be founded on mutual trust. If you’re commenting on ao3 or Tumblr or Twitter on someone’s work who did not ask you specifically for constructive criticism, that trust isn’t there. 

You’re welcome to your opinions about someone’s story or work. But you are not welcome to share those negative opinions when you don’t have consent. Even when you DO have consent, that constructive criticism needs to be well-structured to include real reasons why something isn’t working in a story (”I don’t personally agree with this choice” is not an example of a real reason) and ways to improve. That respect is the very least a writer deserves when someone is asked (notice how I bolded asked, bc it’s fucking important) to give feedback on work that they spent time and effort on.  Which leads me to my next “something”: 

Fanfic is provided for free, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t cost something. 

I saw a post on here recently (linked here) that talked about how fanfic is provided at no cost to the reader, but that doesn’t mean it’s “free” for the writer. And this is something I think some non-writers don’t quite understand. 

Writing a story—whether it be based on characters from a TV show like this fic or based on original characters of your own creation—is a lot of fucking work. It takes hours of your time and so much mental energy. There’s the planning and the plotting and the actual writing and the editing and the working up the nerve to post it so that others can see it and hopefully like it. And all of that labor, all of that emotional/mental/physical labor is done for free. So that the stories in our heads and hearts can exist and so that readers can enjoy them.

EVERY choice is thought out. Every. Single. One. Every conversation is considered, every dialogue tag is placed with intention, every choice the character makes is one we make first. And do we always agree with the choices our characters make? Do these choices always perfectly mirror what would likely happen in real life or even if another write were to have written the story? No, not always. But damn if we didn’t have a reason for letting them make them regardless. Every facet of a story is considered—especially for longer fics. 

So hours of work and a mountain of emotional, mental, and physical energy is put into a fic. Writers open up a door for readers to see into our minds and hearts and souls for these stories. And the very least readers can do is tell us when those stories resonates, and be kind and respectful regardless of if it resonates or not. Deciding to shit on a story because you don’t personally agree with the direction the story is headed? That’s heartbreaking. And irritating. And frankly unmotivating. 

Which brings me to my final “something” of this post: 

Negativity and indifference are killing Fandom. 

We’ve all seen how Fandom (and I’m not just talking about one specific fandom, I’m talking about capital-F Fandom as a whole) has gone downhill in recent years. There’s less engagement with works, less discussion happening between readers/creators/writers/casual viewers of a fandom, and more writers/creators leaving Fandom behind. 

That’s mostly because of negativity and indifference.  There are a lot of posts about how people (and I include myself in this because I really need to do better, and I’ve been trying) need to make a mindful effort to comment on fics you like, kudos fics you like, reblog, retweet, converse with your favorite writers/creators, etc. So I won’t harp on that again here. 

But negativity is another culprit here. Putting a fic or a piece of art out into the world is terrifying. More terrifying to some than others, but there are nerves and anxieties that go into it no matter who you are. And unlike paid authors publishing books or showrunners air tv shows, the only thing we get in return are the kudos/comments/reblogs/retweets from readers. That’s it. So when we put hours of time and effort and those little pieces of our soul into works only to be met with indifference or hateful comments (even when they are misguided attempts at constructive criticism), it makes the benefit of all that work less and less appealing. 

I’ve seen too many writers abandon works and leave fandoms (including t100 fandom, specifically the bellarke fandom) because of this. And I hate it. We have too many talented writers and creators for that. Moreover, the world needs those talented writers and creators to keep making things they love for it to keep spinning (a topic for another long Tumblr post). 

So how can Fandom be a better place for writers/creators? 

First thing’s first, participate. See a piece of art you loved? Reblog it. Read a fic you adored? Comment something to that effect. Find authors or creators you admire? Reach out to say hey! Or just hit the follow button and interact with posts if you’d rather not say hi. We appreciate all of it and love you immensely for it. 

But the kicker once you start participating is doing it mindfully. Think about what you’re commenting and whether it’s helpful or harmful. A long string of emojis bc you can’t put how much you loved a fic into words? We love to see it. Novel-length tags in your reblogs about your favorite lines? Will probably make our day. DMs or asks about upcoming chapters or fic ideas? We’ll scream our joy and talk your ear off. 

A rant about how you thought the characterization of Bellamy in this fic was off? That’s not helpful if the writer didn’t ask you specifically for that kind of feedback. And hateful comments about how a fic needs to be updated sooner or how a certain update didn’t mean your qualifications for how you personally wanted a story to continue? Definitely not helpful (and a honestly a dick move). 

I have no qualms about speaking on behalf of all fanfic writers when I say that we LOVE every single person who reads our shit. We thrive on people reading our stories and then telling us and their followers how much they loved it. No (kind) comment goes unnoticed or unappreciated. 

So please, please, please spread kindness whenever you can to writers and creators. <3

You were very very very nervous. 

You had already come out to your family over the summer (FUCK BAD PARENTS, IF YOURS DON’T ACCEPT YOU IM ADOPTING YOU), and now used a potion to get rid of the more lady like parts of you. 

The only people you hadn’t told were your friends at Hogwarts. 

And you had a lot of friends, despite being in Y/H you tended to make friends very easily which caused you to get close with Regulus Black, which was how you met Sirius, Remus, James, Lily, and the rat-baby. 

You had grown quite fond of the gryffindor’s and had even met some newer ones over the summer through Lily (Marlene, Dorcas, Molly, Arthur, Frank, etc). 

You had grown so attatched to them that you were legitametley sweating at the thought of telling them, but you could not go through anymore dysphoria. 

So you decide to tell them slowly not all at once because it would set your anxiety way way off.

 Lily was first and she already had an inkling when you kept asking to borrow Remus baggy clothes. 

Marlene and Dorcas were after Lily and they almost started crying they were so honored that you felt safe enough to tell them. 

Then came Reggie who took it surprisingly well and basically just ditched all of his Slytherin friends because they had overheard and misgendered you on purpose. 

You told Remus next by accident because he called you by your dead name and your reflex of correcting people kicked in and you just blurted it out, he was really cool with it and was probably he most supportive and threatened to kill anyone who misgendered you, threw a slur, or gave any hate to you. 

Next was the rat-baby and James. Rat-baby didn't accept so we killed him, jkjk unless, they were both very supportive and James quickly wrote to his mum  telling her (after he had your permission) and she wrote back saying she was glad to have another son. 

Sirius was last and the hardest. because you may or may not have a very very very large crush on him. But you had to do it as you were sick and tired of getting misgendered. You told him and he basically just picked you up span you around and just kind of chanted your new name

it was all in all very cute

about a week later you accidentally confessed to Sirius about your feelings and he told you he liked you back

you guys went on 15 minutes of a date before he asked you to be his boyfriend 

you guys were Hogwarts new favorite couple

Regulus was a little mad that you were dating your brother but it got them back to talking and you guys finally convinced Regulus to come live with you until you graduate

when Mama Black and Father Black found out they were furious and sent Sirius a howler

to which you went a howler back to them basically screaming at them to stop being ignorant and saying if they didn't want kids then they should have had any

walburga and orion didn't bother you at all after that

narcissa liked you a lot and thought it was quite cute to see her cousin so happy

the rest of the black’s and malfoy’s and such that were still in Hogwarts simply could have cared less

you two were definitely harry’s godparents together and screw canon because you guys raise harry in a small loft in muggle England with magic all around him

your wedding was when Harry was in year two and Ginny was your flower girl, remus was sirius’ best man and Nymphadora was yours

Minerva Mcgonagol walked Sirius down the isle as his parents were long dead

you two were so cute together it hurt

still the it couple at hogwarts as you were now the care of magical creatures professed and he was an auror that loved to visit his husband

sirius loves cuddles and after you guys graduated and you got the official muggle surgery for top and bottom you loved them just as much

you two were perfectly content

Let me just say one thing, you did not like Percy Jackson. He was too flirty and confident for a six year old boy at the time. And you definitely didn't like when he flirted with you, well yes you did     I mean honestly who does he think he is, making you flustered at six years old. Of course you smacked him! He was being too much. But then again you guys were in kindergarden, you probably should have thought about that before slapping him. But it was either hitting him or kissing him and kissing him didn't feel like the right way to go. That’s probably why when you were finally sent to camp halfblood at 16 you were more okay with seeing Percy. You weren't expecting it, but you accepted it. You guys met immediately as he was a big deal around camp. You had to admit he had gotten a lot prettier. even though he was already very hot when you were six. You saw him and your heart swelled up because last time you were with this boy he hit on you and you slapped him. 

“Percy Jackson?” you questioned a teasing tone lacing your voice.

“Y/n L/n?” Percy sounded nervous to see you again, or maybe that was just you.

When he got to you you pulled him into a hug, hey old habits right? he laughed and hugged you back while the blonde girl and the centaur behind the overly hot boy coughed to get your guys attention.

“Percy? How do you know him?” The blonde asked, you couldn't tell if she was ready to fight you or fight Percy but she was ready to fight someone.

Percy chocked a bit and you started laughing. How the hell was he going to explain that he used to hit on you everyday of pre-school until you slapped him?

“Well um-hi, im Y/n as you might have guessed. And um me and Percy went to kindergarten together, he used to flirt with me a lot.” You stretched out your last few words to exaggerate them as an affect and Percy blushed beet red. The centaur let out a chuckle and the blonde started making fun of Percy as you guys started walking to the big house. 

Percy and you only got closer from there. The bonfire that night was especially nice because you got to sit with him and catch up. Well more like you begged him to tell you of his awesome adventures until Athena claimed you in the middle of you making a very dirty joke to Percy. You were happy to have been claimed after meeting the blonde girl, who you learned was Annabeth Chase, Percy’s best friend and Piper McClean, a child of Aphrodite’s, girlfriend. 

After three months of being at camp you and Percy got so close that you realized between the catching up, blatant flirting, and snappy remarks, you were most definitely falling for Percy Jackson. So being the bold and confident guy you were, you outright told him. Which was a very funny situation, as after you told him you guys tipped your canoe.

You and Percy had gone out on the water  on a canoe because he wanted to talk about something, but you beat him to talking and just casually stated your feelings.

“Percy, just so you know I have a crush on you, now what are we doing on the open sea Percy, are you also declaring your everlasting love for me?” You said and when Percy couldn’t find any hint of teasing in your voice he answered yes and leaned forward to kiss you. As he did that he of course tipped the canoe. After you flipped the canoe back over you guys went back to the shore and went to his cabin to dry off and take showers. Then you guys just kinda cuddled and kissed for the rest of the night, falling asleep around midnight. But in the morning when Annabeth didn't find you in your bed she got worried so she asked Piper and Jason to help look for you which turned into them finding percy trying desperately to make you up with nose kisses while you giggled your head off at his failed attempts to get you out of bed before pushing him onto the floor, shouting something about if he wants to get up so badly, no more cuddles for him. You were happy for the first time in a long time and it felt really nice. You and Percy felt really nice.

You were very nervous about coming to camp. You had lived with your mother, Amphitrite, for your entire life and were under the sea for most of it. That's when your kind of step-brother, Percy Jackson, the myth himself, came down to see his father and instead got you and your mother. You and Percy clicked quickly and he soon was showing you around camp and things like that. You met Chiron who was very kind, Annabeth Chase your kind of brother’s girlfriend who was amazingly gifted, Nico Di Angelo who took a quick liking to your shy approachable attitude, Mr.D who absolutely adored you, and then the rest of the seven. After almost a year of knowing Percy and friends, your mother thought it was time for you to become an official part of camp. Annabeth jumped at the chance to try and make you your own cabin but you decided to just bunk with Percy because you would feel more comfortable that way. You had grown to like each and every person at camp and vice versa. But the person you like the most was Jason Grace. He was just so kind and very very cute. Jason had also taken a very large liking to you, which resulted in a four-hour long argument between Percy and him. 

“No, Jason you can't date my brother!” Percy says quickly getting annoyed with his blonde friend.

You yelled at your brother for half an hour and people understood that they should not come check until the screaming and crashing of you throwing things at him stopped. But as soon as it did, Jason was first to be knocking on you and your brother’s door. 

“Everything ok, Y/n?” 

“Oh, yes, Jason everything is fine, would you mind coming into the cabin for a minute? I believe you, Percy and I have something to talk about.”

Jason stepped inside and you instructed both boys to sit down on your bed angrily before explaining what Percy and you had been fighting about. 

“Oh, um then Percy can i ask your brother on a date now?” 

“Fine.” 

You didn't even have to have him ask before squealing yes and jumping on his lap and kissing him. Percy quickly moved off of the bead and headed to his own while you dragged Jason down to lay with you and cuddle and talk about your date.

summary: It wasn't that you and Carl were hiding from his siblings it was just that he hadn't come out and you hadn't had the chance to tell them “hey, we’re dating!”. So in turn you were kind of hiding it from them, but it wasn't an active secret. But that also didn't mean that it wasn't embarrassing being walked in on kissing when you had thought no one was there. 

You had just gotten to his house and you guys had originally just been cuddling, as it was a chilly day in Southside Chicago.  When he had told you there was no other Gallagher in the house you were too excited to think that it was too good to be true. 

You two had just started kissing and it was getting more heated when Ian, Mickey, Lip, and Fiona all walked into the room looking for Carl. As soon as you had heard the loud gasp you had shoved Carl off of you and onto the floor. Carl sat up and shot you a glare before looking at his siblings nervously.

“Hey, shitheads, what are you doing home so early?” Carl said it like his siblings hadn't just caught him and his boyfriend making out, but they did and Fiona wouldn't let the moment to make fun of him pass up.

“Well we were looking for you, but who's this?” Fiona smugly answered her brother, already knowing the answer because of the bright red faces the two boys had.

“That’s Y/n, my boyfriend.” Carl said it again like there was nothing to it and finally they got the hint to leave. But not before telling Carl to get his lazy ass downstairs as soon as they were done sucking face.

By the time they left Carl and you both started laughing so hard you almost started crying. Carl suddenly stopped and kissed you to get you to stop and you to continued what you had started for about fifteen minutes until Debby walked in. You had gone down later and met his family officially, it was nice, you had your own psychotic boyfriend and his psychotic family.
