Women Leadership
By reading women leadership articles, I gained lots of knowledge about the industrial world. The gender biases play a big role in the workplaces. That is why with same qualifications in jobs women is paying 44% less than men. Women are always dominated in the society by men and even the industries focus on women characteristics. Women are supposed to do housework’s than man. Women should be soft-spoken. If a woman points out her opinion and be assertive she would call “bitch” and a man with same traits call bossy. Really? This kind of social, industrial, and cultural views does not make any sense. Why we as women always have to sacrifice for men. Why cannot be it equal? A man always decides whether he will have one child, no child, or seven children’s in his marriage life. A woman always has to sacrifice in her job and at home. If a woman puts makeup and spends times for her business she would call again “bitch”. If she wears short clothes she would call again bitch and the list goes on and on to call “bitch” to a woman in the society. However, men can spend nights outside for business it would call hard worker or ambitious. Men can have three or four girlfriends and can cheat their wife it would be called strong personality. There are so many obstacles as women in the society which we have to deal with our strong opinions and confidence. Whenever something happens wrong against women we should speak about it even though you would think I will not create any change or it will create many problems in my life because it will satisfy your soul and will encourage other women and the male-dominated society will be more careful of what they do with women. After all words have power!

Plenary #4
The speaker was an African teacher and a story teller. She was giving great expressions while speaking and she spoke her mind very well with great sense of humor. I really liked her speech because it makes me to think in a creative way of feminist, literature and myths to increase my knowledge and power. She talked about mythical stories and fantasies. She explained how mythical stories or story telling can influence women’s life and stories or create a movement. In her childhood she was very imaginative and whenever she got in some trouble she just made up stories. She described that mythical stories speak about our heart and represent our own cultures. She talked about symbolic literature. She said literature makes us to think in another way and gives us hope which in life can be difficult. She also explained about divine feminine which requires determination, values, strength, and generosity. She said that divine feminine keeps her balanced. She described her as humble to others and always do well to others. She is not fear of compassion. She described that manifesto compassion helps us to connect to humanity to self and others. She believed that people should hold their ground and values. She said keeping balance in life is very important which can develop our nature of mind and spirituality. She also claimed that for transformation we need knowledge and power. Knowledge and power helps us to keep balance in life. She said that self-knowledge is very significant because that way women can know their own happiness and high level of choices. Her last thought on the speech was that we as women should keep balance in our present and future times and be creative.

DRC Event- Film Screening and Discussion on Women of Color and Reproductive Justice
By attending this event I learned lots of important information of pregnancy and contraception such as how to have a safe sex and how to deal with pregnancy. First part of the event the speakers talked about different types of birth control procedures and where to go for help if you need any help or concerns on health issues. Then we did a group task where each group has to put the condoms on a toy penis. This task was to help us know about the perfect way to put and take off the condom. Then she explained, ways of how women should have sex safely. After the discussion, we watched a movie called  “Catching babies.” The movie was very touchy and emotional because it showed how women suffer during pregnancy and how hard is to give a child birth. It also shows how facilities and nurses are helping pregnant women to deal with pregnancy emotionally, physically, and spiritually well and give a safe child birth. The event was really knowledgeable and helpful to my health and others because without knowing these information I would might do something which can be very upsetting for me and others. However, knowing these little important information can save me or others from life-taking hazardous diseases. After all health is wealth and knowing information about health is the key to live life better!

Plenary 3/ Pam Fessler
Pam Fessler was a great speaker and a genuine person. Her speech was about the poverty. She talks about how homelessness and hunger can make people feel so weak in the society. She pointed out a great point that hard work does not prevent you from being poor because many times bad luck can make you poor it does not matter how much you work hard. I totally agree with her because I see many people who work hard even for years and getting low wages and poor life styles. On the other hand, people with good fortune are not doing hard work but getting a good job or succeeding in life. After all life’s circumstances affect people a lot. It is not always true that if you study hard or work hard you will be rich or successful. I like Pam Fessler addressing it to the world by her news reporting profession. She also claims that in today's’ society poverty can identify differently. If someone has i-phone or television in their home it does not mean that they are not poor. We should help people who is homeless and going from a terrible time in their life. We should help them even if they do not want our help. Pam is an women and I am really proud of her incredible work on poverty and leading others’ to help needy people and diminish the poverty; which are obstacles for poor people to not enjoying the life how the middle class people do or specifically who has a home to live and three times to eat and have some laughter in a day. I always had a thought of helping needy people and I did to distribute clothes, foods, or any help they needed but I want to help them by socially making a strong support network for them like Fessler.

Video
The video’s cinematography and use of imagery/iconography is very usefully done with aesthetics. The images of bicycle, road, the two young women, pool, and man describes the main art and purpose of the video making. The two young women are gazes at play. The dominant gazes being subverted are boys and the video portrayed a boy which is a boyfriend of a girl who seems to be rude and violent character in the video. The girl is always scared of her boyfriend when she is around with him and at last he hits both of the girls. I am gazing to the subjects of the video with love and disagreement. With love because the two girls genuinely in love and one girl is not happy with her boyfriend because he does not love her genuinely. Disagreement with the boy and the lyrics tells that society judge if girls like girls and girls are afraid of being in a relationship which is sad. All people have their right to live how they want. The gaze and cinematography used to construct relationships between characters in the video by showing the atmosphere of three friends where two of them love one girl. However, the boy’s look and touching his girlfriend shows he hits his girlfriend frequently and the girl is not happy with him. The two girls’ smile to each other and caring and getting interested to each other shows their hidden love for each other. The role of violence in this video is that girls cannot love girls if they do her boyfriend can hit her. My thoughts in it is boys or society should not treat girls in a negative way if girls like girls because we all have our own feelings and freedom to choose and have whatever we want as in the lyrics it says “Girls like girls like boys do, nothing new. Is not this world we came, tell me you can feel in to” how a boy loves his girl a girl also can love his girl same way so it’s not something surprising or shocking to accept. In Girls Like Girls, Hayley Kiyoko’s standpoint is that society should not discriminate lesbian women and a girl can be happy with a girl how she can be with a man. However, she also portrayed that women becomes victims of violence if she in a relationship with a man. She thinks it’s more safe and peaceful relationship if girls love girls. I think she is also in a relationship with a girl and the story of the video tells her real life story and she wants to alert the world about it. In the video the girl smile with peace and freedom it shows the artist is happy in her life and proud to be a lesbian.

Trigger Warning: Violence, homophobia
In Girls Like Girls, Hayley Kiyoko depicts the chemistry between two young women.Â

Reflect on the videos’s cinematography and use of imagery/iconography. What gazes are at play? What dominant gazes are being subverted and how? How are you, the viewer, gazing at the subjects of the video? How is the gaze and cinematography used to construct relationships between characters in the video? What is the role of violence in this video and what are your thoughts on it? Consider the artist’s identity and standpoint, the lyrics, and video in your response.

This is really sad that many family members persuade their kids to be skinny and maintain a diet by not eating what they want to eat and pushing them in stress. Mothers should concentrate on their children’s good health by giving them what they want to eat in a healthy way rather than making them to eat little an not satisfied with their eating foods. As a kid they should eat what they want but family members should teach them how much amount they can eat and don't put pressure on them about diet at early ages which really does not make any sense because children’s growth of the body depends on food and that food also includes fats.Â

Every woman should point out the society that women also doing so much in lots of positions and we do not need any tale of Cinderella to introduce us as female because we are not weak and our hard work should introduce us which most of the time the male dominant society ignores to do.

Makers Assignment- Barbara Bestor (Architect)
Barbara Bestor is a feminist woman who is an award-wining architect well known for her commercial spaces. Barbara build her own house in every five years. In the society, we have stereotypes about women involvement in science or architecture field that women cannot be successful in these fields as men. Bestor says that it’s a good idea to have these stereotypes related to profession in mind and turn into them wrong. I identify myself in her this thought because I have mathematics major and many people told me that women cannot do well in this major compare to men. However, I love to solve problems and numbers and scientific formulas and theory of my major and I want to be an actuary. The stereotype makes me to continue with my major strongly because I believe that we all are different and have our own journey which cannot be followed by other’s rules, roles and perspectives. Barbara was very clear and ambitious about her career in her childhood. She liked to draw houses when she was kid. After graduating from middle school she was focusing on her career to be an architect. Bestor is religious, feminist, open minded, and hard worker and these identities of her made her to achieve her accomplishment as one of the successful women architect in the world. In life people have to be passionate of being something which other’s think they would not. Bestor also says to her 15 year old girl that “don’t worry too much” because in her teenage years she was ambitious but also anxious about things. However, her therapist told her to not worry much otherwise she cannot be an architect because it requires mental strength. I related to her because I also feel the same way. I have the dream to be an actuary but I am very nervous about things and worry too much about how something will happen or I cannot do something better. Worrying too much makes things worse than it is which will not help to reach goals and it’s really waste of time. She also believes in kindness which I also believe in. This type of nature makes her to make good relations with others in her professional life and get into this successful position because I think in this world we have to learn to how to get along with others to be successful and happy in life.

Transgender and Intersex
I did not know the definition of transgender and intersex even I did not have any idea that we have so many different factors on gender. Transgender people do not identify themselves to the sex they born with. Intersex people born with a little genitalia which does not describe them as male or female. From the article of Killermann’s “Biological Sex Explored,” I also learned that the doctor can assign intersex babies a sex depending on how ambiguous their genitalia is. I felt sad about knowing these facts because it would be a harder life for people who is transgender and intersex. In our society people do criticize and give disadvantages to people who are transgender and intersex or identify themselves as other genders different from male or female. I can feel their pain but it’s really a serious issue in societies about their rights and acceptance to the social groups. In my country, if someone is gay the family and society will through them to the footpath and people would behave to the gay community as they are from different species and deserve a life with hate which is very wrong. I am not talking about the lesbianism of my country because it’s not sociologically recognized. If someone is lesbian they are not spoking about it or they do not have their own groups and identities to the society like here in America. So the lesbianism is secretive in my country because lesbian women feel shy and afraid to declare about it because there is no governmental support. Our culture does not value the different types of gender rather than male or female. Every people has their own rights and how they want to live and with whom because it’s their perspective to the life and we should respect each gender identity and live with unity and peace.

Racism
Racism still exist by whether a debate between black and white women or by getting lower salary wages in the business industry as a woman comparing to man. As Tatum says in the article, “Defining Racism,”Can We Talk”?” that we do learn about race in childhood and it depends on how we view each race by our surroundings. If it is an environment where we grow up with different races then we learn how to respect other cultures and explore different races. On the other hand, if we grow up with a similar race of our own race then it is more likely to hurt people from different races knowingly or unknowingly because we are not aware of the consequences of diversity. However, at certain age we do learn about values and what is right or wrong so it does not matter whether you grow up with a diverse society or not to respect every race. Ultimately, it is our thoughts how we accept diversity or different race because internally we all know every human are equal. In the article, “The Social Construction of Race,” Lopez tells that race comes from ancestry and how the society represent it. Being a part of diverse Rutgers University student I can explore and get face to face interactions on racism that can lead me to develop myself well by respecting others’ culture. Over here I feel people who are same race as mine are much less friendly to me than who are different than my race which is interesting to observe. However, accepting diversity around the world are increasing and hopefully in future we all be identified as human instead of the identity of our race.

Second Plenary
Wendy Cai-Lee is a great inspiration for all women around the globe. She is the most famous business women around the world. She was a Rutgers student at Douglass campus which is honorable and to see her giving speech after twenty two years later was a proud moment of her and us. In her speech, the surprising part was that she was a Chinese-immigrant and when she was eleven year old she came to the United States of America. She told about how she was forced to take responsibilities at the age of eleven because her parents did not know how to speak English and she was the only older daughter who can help them on filling up forms and answering calls in English. However, she also included that her secret of success begun from that maturity at that age where she learned how to handle situations and how to deal with people. She described about her father that how he was so conservative and still she is waiting for her fathers’ good comments on her success in the world. She illustrated that in life it’s very important to “get to the table.” That means we should not give up on something by thinking of that we cannot do or how we will do instead we should go there and face it even if we are not prepared. I related to her so much by her family situations and I totally agree about her quotes that “get to the table” because we should not afraid of something which we do not even experience so we should face it and see what happens. Now she is one of my favorite women in the world not just because of her famous status but how she achieved those accomplishments, and her attitude that she is so down to earth which is commendable.

Racial Caucus
In my country, I never think of racial status as much as I do here in the United States of America because we live in a very diverse country. From the readings and class conversation on race I realized how significant a race can be in peoples’ life in two ways which is negative and positive. The race between men and women still matters when we go to the working field. Women are still having less value and salary than men. The different racial background also effecting someone’s credentials toward a job or relationships such as marrying to a different race can be criticize badly that can cause less self-confident in someone’s life. The positive side of diversity is that we can explore different cultures and can get knowledge and power from each other and as a society we are growing effectively. For an example, in college class like us at Rutgers we can talk to each other about it and be comfortable of it and this activity making us to view each other’s perspectives. However, a few girls I can see that what they meant in class by accepting and respecting race and different cultures are really doing it in their daily interaction with other cultures after class. That means race has a big effect on people and very critical to contribute towards of it with a friendly behavior even sharing the thoughts of race respectably. As a Muslim girl I am proud of my race and others in same amount of respect. In my view, we all are same and if someone respect their own culture and race then they can do of others. In future, I can imagine that there would be a world with no race based differentiation rather than being a human and we can live with more peace and enjoyment.

Gender Performance
A child don't get their gender identity until they grow up with others who is following the gender in a process. We are either male or female and if you are not categorized in these two you are discriminated. Butler said in her essay, that sex is that define a body with male or female identity but gender is a method or activities that we learn from social group and we understand our body. Lorber also said that the society makes gender which includes our name, address, and other social activities. I think we adapt and accept what we told so and how we behave and it reflects our gender such as some of us very manly behave and some of us very womanly behave because our brain adapted the social constructions to build a gender identity. Plenary 9/16 Speech by Lauren Rankin on “Abortion”
Today lauren gave a valuable speech about abortion which included efficient information about abortion in the society. I did not know that in 2015 women cannot do abortion safely in many states in America which was surprising to me. Lauren spoke about many information on abortion such as when and how you can do safe abortion. She also talked about protestors’ violence on it. I personally gained a vast of informtaion from her speech which will be helpful for me as a woman.
