My rant for the day
Not every day is going to be perfect. For me, perfect days are somewhat rare. Im a middle school, special education teacher. Middle school teaching is tough, add being a special educator is tough. But put them together and it’s even tougher. I have students with ADHD, students with emotional disabilities and some students who only receive speech services. Day after day, I deal with students ignoring me, being disrespectful, not trying to learn anything or do any work. I support them to try and meet whatever needs they have that day. Today, in the morning, I got cursed at, grabbed by the wrists, pushed around. In the afternoon, things were thrown at me, I was cursed at some more. All I wanted to do was escape and cry in the bathroom. I stood patiently, trying to calm my student down, with no time to calm myself down before returning to teaching. But at the end of the day, yeah all this crazy stuff happened, and all I did was think about one positive. One of my students, who was a trouble maker at the beginning of the year, received a 98% on his math quiz. He lost half a point. As soon as I walked in the room, he showed me the quiz and explained exactly what his mistake was. Not only was he happy about this, but I’m the afternoon, his standardized test score improved by 17 points. All this crazy happened and I walked away from today with that one positive. It kept me from breaking down, from crying in the bathroom. It only took one positive thing to turn my day around. Not every day is perfect, but it’s important to find one positive thing in everday.
