Draw the circle. Connect the dots. It's a beautiful world. Let's make protecting our planet part of every equation. So we can keep stepping, but stepping lightly, making no impact, keeping it beautiful.

This year I've been reminded often that humans as a whole want to feel appreciated, to live in a society that cares for them, like they are part of something and that they belong. Right now, across the world, we're dealing with issues that are fuelled by people feeling like this is missing in their lives or that it's under threat, or misplaced faith in others who promise these things but are frankly misguided or lying. So at this time when a lot of us feel angry with people who don't agree with us, don't underestimate the power of showing love to other humans, even those ones who we'd quite like to shoot down! After all, what we ultimately want is for everyone to join our loving tribe! 💚 Happy new year everyone!

Each stripe represents a year from 1850 to 2018; the colour indicates each year’s global temperature, blue for cold and red for hot.
One of my 'greatest hits' of 2019. Simple, stark and brilliant. Created by Professor Ed Hawkins. You can make one for where you live, at https://showyourstripes.info/.
The Earth is about 1ºC hotter now than pre-industrial levels, halfway to the 2ºC limit set by world leaders in 2009, and not so far off the 1.5ºC limit recommended by scientists.

Hit them where it hurts… in the profits! 🤑 Change can happen fast when there’s money to be made or lost. To save the planet, choose sustainable, reusable or second-hand. Check whether the things you give your money to harm the planet; is there dirty palm oil in your biscuits, dodgy funds in your pension? Supporting businesses that have low impact on the environment will encourage others to follow. Also, whatever it is, you probably don’t need it.

If you have a vote this week, use it. 🙋The EU elections use a proportional voting system, in the UK at least, so you have a chance to make your vote really count.
The state of the environment affects us all, it could not be more of a political issue. We cannot stop climate breakdown without political change. Vote for a party that puts environmental issues at the heart of all it’s policies. What the world needs is for humans to come together, and work together to solve this problem facing us all. Don’t let hate win! 🗳❤

This is a huge bonnet from the late 1700s structured with whalebone to accommodate the high hairstyles of the time, in the background you can see an example of a skirt using whalebone to make it stick out. It seems stupid now for creatures to die or for the planet to be made worse so we can have these unnecessary items, but they must have seemed essential and practical at the time. There are definitely parallels with things we buy today. The skirt here is actually made with cane, I guess not an ethical choice at the time, probably an economic one.
Can we reprogram ourselves to think differently about what we 'need'? And where there's a choice between a planet-harming product, and a slightly less efficient sustainable alternative, can we be happy with the one that's 'good-enough'? I think so.

The argument for this being eco friendly is that the jacket and body con dress underneath are only made in one size that fits everyone, meaning there's no need to make several sizes that end up going to waste. Saving the planet by dressing in a giant stretchy sock and an even gianter hilarious tent-cloak? ...Yep ok I'm on board. 👊

Finally made it to Fashioned From Nature at the V&A. Looking at our relationship with nature through fashion in the past, the present and how it could be in the future. It was ace. 👍

Here's some actual #NewYearResolutions from me to go green beyond #Veganuary ... 🌱 Plus some bonus ones from #JasonHickel ... 1) Switch your home (and workplace!) to a clean energy provider. 2) Liberate your diet from beef and lamb. 3) Move your money to a fossil-free bank (in the UK: Nationwide, Triodos, Co-Op).

New year, new world! 👌🍰😁 With all the news last year about the planet continuing to get increasingly wrecked, I heard a few things that resonated with me... "Hope brings energy... Feeling a complete inability to do anything – ‘This is too big for me, I give up’ – that’s no use to anybody. [With] despair, all the energy to do something goes out of the room.” Mary Robinson "Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov [said]: 'They want us to believe there’s no chance of success. But whether or not there’s hope for change is not the question. If you want to be a free person, you don’t stand up for human rights because it will work, but because it is right. We must continue living as decent people.'...Climate action is human rights...Taking action is the best way to live in conditions of crisis and violation, for your spirit and your conscience as well as for society." Rebecca Solnit "I want to change the world and I think more people should just say that calmly and without being a wanker... So that's your job as a human being, you need to find the list of things that need to be done, go pick a couple and try to knock them off before you die." Caitlin Moran Good luck with ticking your thing off the list in 2019!

I do like to glitter ✨And at this time of year so does everything and everyone else. The trouble is #glitterislitter, a ready made micro plastic ready to fall off your face and twinkle on down the drain to cause all it's problems. BUT biodegradable glitter exists! This stuff I've got on is from Eco Glitter Fun. I recommend going full festive with gold eyelids, frosted lashes, ruby slipper lips and Christmas colour freckles.

It's Halloween 🎃, it's the last day of #inktober2018, here's a spooky little Rondo dwarf galago for you. Only found in Tanzania, only weighing 60g, with a bottle brush tail and distinctive call, it's a lovely little freak! They are losing the forests they live in to logging, even though they are protected. Let's not let them become ghosts 👻
The IUCN Red List details the global conservation status of animals, plants and fungi: https://bit.ly/2DdMnJv
For the last days of #inktober2018 I'm doing a series featuring the most endangered animals on the planet, to hopefully help make sure these aren't their last days too...

All coral species are under threat from the effects of climate change and pollution, and the Staghorn coral is one of most endangered. Populations have declined by up to 98% in some places. In 2006, Elkhorn and Staghorn corals gained federal legal protection, becoming the first species to be listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act because of vulnerability to global warming. In the Caribbean they are 'coral gardening' to try and help bring the species back: https://bit.ly/2Q78eW3 For the last days of #inktober2018 I'm doing a series featuring the most endangered animals on the planet, to hopefully help make sure these aren't their last days too... Hawksbill turtle. Their tapered heads end in a sharp point resembling a bird’s beak, hence their name. They are normally found near coral reefs, but like other sea turtles, hawksbills make incredible migrations in order to move to nesting grounds, normally on tropical beaches. And they glow! 🐢💡🌟>>> video.nationalgeographic.com/video/news/150928-biofluorescent-hawksbill-sea-turtle-vin Human activity is the main threat to Hawksbills, whether that's accidently catching them in fishing nets, or deliberately hunting them. Hawksbill eggs are still eaten around the world and they are often killed for their flesh and their stunning shells, despite the turtle’s international protected status. Here's some more about the work to save them: https://wwf.to/2fMr9lW For the last days of Inktober2018 I'm doing a series featuring the most endangered animals on the planet, to hopefully help make sure these aren't their last days too... Seychelles palm frog. Unique to Silhouette Island in the Seychelles, this is a very small frog, growing to around 1.4 cm in length, although its close relative (the also endangered) Gardiner’s Seychelles frog is even more teeny tiny, smaller than a little finger nail! Usually found hiding in the middle of palm trees, the frog is under threat mostly from climate change. The areas where the population is declining have been experiencing changing rainfall patterns, exposing the frogs to drier conditions. It is projected that all suitable habitat for the frog will be lost before the end of the century. Keeping a check on climate change will help stop that happening to this little frog. 🐸 350.org For the last days of Inktober2018 I'm doing a series featuring the most endangered animals on the planet, to hopefully help make sure these aren't their last days too... The furry and impressive Mountain gorilla. The world’s remaining mountain gorillas live across four national parks, spanning three African countries. War and the increasing encroachment from humans has brought them close to extinction.
Due to conservation efforts, mountain gorillas have increased in numbers, although generally populations of gorillas are still declining. Eco-tourism to the area is helping to make a change. You can visit the gorillas and help the people make their living from protecting the big apes rather than harming them 🐵 - https://bit.ly/2CIH4AS
