I’ve been crazy busy these last weeks and here is the reason: I’ve been working on a calendar project that I would love to fund through a kickstarter campaign!

Something has shifted in my art making. I’ve never done the “beautiful drawings in sketchbooks” before, always wanted to, but sketchbooks were for trying out stuff and doodling around. Just over a month ago this changed. Limiting myself to the circle format made a huge difference and allowed me to explore ideas and concepts in an easy but more refined way than ever before.

The other change is that I’m experiencing a sense of flow and guidance with these drawings that I always thought art should have but that rarely is part of making complex thought-through paintings and drawings for me. In these little circles however there is space where co-creation happens and it’s the most beautiful thing to experience.

What have I been up too? Trying my hands on figurative oil painting. Still on the search for the holy grail of art medium.

It’s strangely intuitive until a certain point at which I then completely lose connection to what I’m doing. I guess practice is all that will help me here...

Finished my 22 Tarotportraits and made a little video about it!! I keep warning people of my German accent and they respond with: You’ve got such a soothing voice! I guess the accent doesn’t matter in that case! XD

Did a little selfportrait for Inktober! 

Day 25 of Inktober! I just did this little ink self-portrait for my website and I thought, I might as well post it today since my theme for inktober is my upcoming webcomic and I’m it’s creator after all! Also: Tomorrow is the big day!! It’s so exciting… and nerve wracking.

I’ve always been - drawn seawards. There is nothing like the ocean, the vast sea to connect me with my inner being, my soul that yearns for limitlessness and freedom.

I always feel the drive to move forward, somewhere. Never quite there yet. On the other hand, the current moment is all I have. It’s where my power lies.

Head in the clouds (2017) watercolor, black polychromos

While the unpredictable nature of watercolors really appeals to me, I also enjoy clean lines. Mixing these two elements made this piece really interesting to me. It has a sharpness that I really like, while my eyes  wander from his eyes to the wild cloud background and back.

Originally I was going with something like “Swanprince” as the title of this illustration, but it quickly moved to a kind of “Page of Swords” vibe and the real theme became clear.

Sometimes I start a painting with a very loose intention behind it and then while painting it turns into something else...
