Tim had prepared yet another nursery in the manor, though he could never bring himself to dismantle the old ones. Those rooms, once filled with the laughter and cries of children he would never see again, still deserved to exist, even if they would remain forever silent. Julie lay in her crib, a custom-made oak piece, its rich stain highlighting the natural grain. Tim was glad to see it in use again. It had been years since the crib had cradled a child. His thoughts drifted to the boy who had once slept there, wondering how he was now, what Clark had done with him. His son. His baby. A child taken from him, leaving behind only an empty room and a hollow ache.

Julie giggled softly, her tiny hands batting at the mobile above her. Tim had commissioned it specially, its delicate figures of nightingales and robins circling gracefully in the air. He hummed a quiet tune as he gently rocked the crib, his heart heavy yet hopeful. This time, he told himself, he would keep her. He wouldn’t let her be taken away. He couldn’t bear another empty room, another silent reminder of what he had lost. But deep down, he knew it wasn’t fair to think that way. His son, Steph’s daughter—they were out there somewhere, living the lives they deserved, happy and safe. And as much as it pained him, Tim couldn’t begrudge them that. What more could he ask for, if they were happy?

One day, he vowed, he would breathe life back into this manor. He had promised it that much. One day, Drake Manor would be a home again, filled with warmth and laughter, just as he had dreamed it had been as a child. Tim longed for that—for his sons, for his daughters, for Danny. He wanted to build a home, a place where they could belong, where they could grow and thrive. A place where the walls echoed with joy instead of silence.

One day, Tim would no longer be the lone Drake. One day, the manor would be alive again, and he would no longer walk its halls alone.
