Her clear blue eyes flamed with annoyance, but underneath that was the colder undertone of hurt. “Well,” she snapped, “your hints do often send mixed signals.” She stood, breaking the small amount of contact between them, “but if that’s what you really want then fine. But may I remind you,” she leaned forward, the challenge clear in her gaze, her voice lowered, “you kissed me first.”

She’d heard that far too many times lately. “It already has, and yet I still do it. I believe that everyone needs help at times and I guess I’m not afraid enough of certain people to lend a hand, or a shoulder, or a bandage.” She nodded, noting the girl’s curiosity peaking. “I don’t remember doing anything scandalous, so being told there’s a target on my back was… a surprise, to say the least. Although I’m not exactly quiet about my beliefs.”

♕ – — “Well then, you’re either incredibly brave, or incredibly naive,” Araminta teased, tilted her cup of tea towards the girl, “perhaps you should have been a Gryffindor.” She pursed her lips slightly at the mention of a target, “well, I think everyone who’s like us has a bit of a target on their back at the moment, don’t they?” If anything, she and Harriet were united by sheer virtue of their blood, “I wouldn’t worry about it, I’m sure everyone has much bigger things to worry about.”

“Avoiding you?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “Now why would I waste my energy on something so idiotic.”

The library was empty enough that she felt somewhat hidden, tucked away among the bookshelves. “I feel like I haven’t seen you in weeks,” she commented, not quite meeting his eyes, trying to act as if it didn’t make her heart twist, the thought that he’d been ignoring her.

Jimi grinned, waggling her eyebrows. “Aw come on, ya’ can’t say that thing wasn’t entertainin’, it’s kinda cute how she thinks anyone gives a shit about what she saw, eh?” It didn’t bother her in the slightest that her own proclivities were mentioned in the writing. Jimi snogging someone was hardly front page news. “Don’t you worry yourself none though lass, I just needed a place to sit while I poke holes in pics for some new necklaces.” Jimi set down a small screwdriver and a handful of guitar pics. “Can make you one if ya’ like.”

♕ – — “She thinks that because most of the school does give a shit about what she writes,” Araminta said with a roll of her eyes, “everyone loves knowing the gossip, no matter how much they deny it.” She sipped at her coffee, watching what the girl was doing with muted interest, giving her a polite smile at the offer. “Ah, oh no thank you,” she cleared her throat, “I’m not particularly fond of necklaces.” It wasn’t completely a lie, she was very particular about the necklaces she did wear, and they certainly didn’t have guitar pics on them. “You go ahead though, don’t let me distract you.”

The opportunity to help sparked something within Harriet and her eyes widened, “That’s understandable. Although, if you do need help next time, come find me and I’ll see if I can ease your pain, alright?” She gave the girl a genuine smile, although it faltered a little at the mention of what she’d spent her evening doing. “Ah. Well, it definitely wasn’t how I expected the night to go. I’ve been warned to keep my head down, actually.”

♕ – — She arched a brow at the girl, a bemused smile settling on her lips, “you offer help far too easily Harriet, you should be careful, one day it might get you into trouble.” There were far too many people in the world looking to take advantage of a kind soul. “Oh really?” She said, the other girl’s comments piquing her interest momentarily, “it’s hard to imagine you doing anything scandalous, no offence.”

there was something inherently familiar about the other. winnie stretched out her arms over her head, rolling her neck around. “then I wouldn’t bore you with it anyway. idle minds speak of idle things.” and in order to enjoy a gossip column, you had to give a shit about the people involved. winnie didn’t. “just because I don’t need it, doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it. sometimes you just have to give into the more pleasurable things in life. like bed sheets.”

♕ – — Araminta hummed in agreement with the other girl’s words, lifting her cup to take a sip of her tea, “well, I can’t disagree with you there.” God forbid anyone think her mind idle. Araminta had always excelled for the best, even if it meant being something of an over-achiever. “I’m afraid rounds have been cutting into my beauty sleep time. It’s like every man and his dog is out and about after curfew,” she sighed, shaking her head in frustration, she’d spent so many nights now writing people up or escorting them back to their rooms.

“A dictator type? Oof, that’s never good” he cringed, though he knew that she wasn’t being entirely serious. Frank could be strict, but only when he really needed to be. Unfortunately, recent events had forced the need to be stricter upon him. He had had to write up two prefects that week, which hadn’t been pleasant. “Exactly” he grinned, “they’re bad enough at the moment with students sneaking about after dark while we are patrolling, imagine what would happen if we didn’t. Lawlessness, rioting, chaos…” he sighed, dramatically.

♕ – — She chuckled softly, shaking her head at his dramatic words, “sometimes I think some of the student body are already trying to start in on the lawlessness. It’s like the crackdown on the rules has made people want to break them even more.” She ran a hand through her long hair, turning her attention back to Frank, “but how are you dealing with everything? It can’t be easy, being Head Boy during a time like this.”
