It’s still Pride in the Boiling Isles 🌈
I still cannot believe I got the chance to work on such an incredibly special show 🥹 Lemme rant for a sec:
There’s so much more to The Owl House than just Lumity, but watching these girlfriends fall in love in canon really touched my life and the lives of so many queer kids around the world. I was so honored to play a small part in Luz’s coming out story and her relationship with Amity.
I’ve visited middle schools, high schools, and colleges around the US where I spoke to classrooms about my job on TOH, and so many kids told me how much this show meant to them as young queers, artists, and neurodivergent weirdos. We need to be supporting those kids and their futures now more than ever. Nobody can diminish your light!
Queer rights are human rights. Joy and Pride is resistance. Expression and Nonconformity are threats to power. So is Humor, and Art, and Love, and Community— all precious as they are vital, especially in times like these.
Trans rights are human rights— the right to privacy, autonomy, and deciding what’s best for our bodies is between us and our doctors, not our governments. Anti-trans laws reflect fascist ideals, the lavender scare, and racist segregation throughout history.
Immigrant Rights are human rights— the rights to travel, seek asylum, build a life for yourself, share your culture with others. Immigrants are a disruption to an ethnostate.
Heroes and Villains from The Owl House, though fictional, represent and embody these very real concepts from our world. And that’s just part of the reason why this show genuinely resonates with me and so many people.
Ok enough rambling from me… please stay safe out there
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷

Ruby: I'M GONNA BE A MOMMY! (runs home as fast as possible)
Ruby: (gives Jaune, Ren, and Nora cigars) I'm gonna be a mom, guys! The baby's on the way!
Jaune: Congrats!
Nora: Way to go, Rubes!
Ren: Tell Penny we said good luck!
Ruby: (arrives home) I'm here! Penny? Honey? Did I make it in time?
Penny: I'm sorry, Ruby, you missed the delivery.
Ruby: Aw...
Penny: (holding up a box labeled "Pietro Polendina’s Robo-Baby Constructicon Set") But don't fret, my love. I hear making the baby is the fun part!
Ruby: Yay!
Ruby: So... after building our child... (Reads) "Take hold of the AFTR-"
Penny: The Aura Fluid Transfer Rod.
Ruby: "-and squeeze and hold it until your aura fills the battery. Remember to take breaks and drink plenty of water." (Sighs) Okay... Are you ready?
Penny: With you holding my hand, always.
Ruby: I love you, Penny.
Penny: I love you, too, Ruby.

What would you say your biggest artistic influences are as far as character design goes?
Also what kinds of plots immediately get you hooked on a story?
Oh god hard to say. Pokémon as a whole for sure. The blocky and simple, athleisure fashion is something that pops um in my work a lot. Ken Sugimori's older work is something that inspires me a lot. I love how small and chunky and effectively simple it is
take is another artist who I became familiar with after seeing her work on Pokémon SWSH. Her work is pretty different from Ken's (very colorful and sleek) but it's still very simple in a way that doesn't feel under-designed. She puts detail in very unique places that really help each character stand out from each other. I aspire to color like this and I also feel like I draw people with similar proportions
Jenn Strickland ( @jennerallydrawing ) isn't a character designer (i think, i know them as a board artist and director) but their character work is everything I wish my work was. Effortlessly expressive and fun but super simple in the best way. I do think their work as a board artist really informs how they design because every design they've done looks so easy and fun to draw (a board artist's dream). The stark black they use is something I use in my own work and it also has a sleek but chunky quality to it that's really satisfying
Awuradwoa Afful's (@/rajieee) work is perfecttt. Simple, blocky, understated but fun. I love how she handles fashion and clothing as well. But most of all, she simplifies black hairstyles in a really nice way! I wish I had this much style

truly do not understand workplace drama. we're stuck here doing stupid bullshit for 8 hours and you want to make it worse? But on the other hand I love hearing about arguments that are not and never will be my problem

The problem with basing your whole personality around a single point is that eventually that point fades. And then who are you.
