do y’all remember the scene from only the brave where james was captured by death eaters?

now, imagine james potter, bloodied and battered barely clinging to consciousness—sprawled out on the floor, saying something similar with river’s line on doctor who, where she goes: “god knows where he is right now, but i promise you, he’s doing whatever the hell he wants & not giving a damn about me! and i’m just fine with that….. and if i happen to find myself in danger, the doctor is not stupid enough or sentimental enough and he is certainly not in love enough to find himself standing in it with me!”

even on the verge of passing out, he still manages to gloat, mock, and taunt voldemort, laughing at the sheer futility of the entire scheme. with absolute certainty, he claims that it’s all been for nothing because regulus black doesn’t give a damn about him. he says it with so much conviction, completely unaware that regulus is already planning on bargaining his life in exchange for james’ safety.

then fast forward to weeks after they defeated voldemort, and regulus is no longer under the influence of legacy’s magic, out of nowhere, regulus will be struck by a memory of: james writhing in pain under the cruciatus curse, so sure that regulus wouldn’t come for him. the weight of it hits him like the curse itself, sharp and unbearable. it hits him so hard that he immediately apparates to james quidditch practice, needing to shower him with all the love and affection he can muster. he is set on erasing any doubt james ever had, and prove how much regulus would willingly set the whole world on fire if it meant keeping james out of harm’s way.

p.s. by imagine, i meant: someone pls pls write an au of that particular scene in “how to save a life” chapter in only the brave 🙏 i am BEGGING! GROVELING! this scene has been stuck in my head ever since i heard that audio & i need my brain scratched

Remus being a werewolf with higher senses then everyone else gets a whiff of Gilderoy's cologne and comments on it. Whether he says it smells good/overbearing for him/ reminds him of smth we don’t know- but ever since then Peter can’t shake it.

He’s noticing in the dinning hall, classrooms, corridors, around Hogsmeade, etc, - he can never stop searching

James and Sirius think it’s really cool of Peter to be trying to figure out the smell for Moony with all of Lockhart's protests (they also joke that maybe Peter’s a werewolf with how much he’s picking it up).

But Remus knows why Pete's looking for it, even if he doesn't know it yet

college au where regulus is absolutely awful at math and goes to the library every day trying to study with no success.

one day, after a coffee break, he goes back to his desk only to find mocking and kinda flirty notes (but with the right answers!) all over his books. this thing keeps happening at least twice a week and every time the notes are more flirtatious and regulus will never admit it but he likes it a bit too much.

so he starts writing short answers on his own book, effectively starting a very non conventional conversation with the mysterious person who keeps entertaining him.

imagine his surprise when one day during his break the coffee shop is closed and he goes back to the library only to find soccer team captain james potter writing on his book with a minecraft pencil.
