Nosferatu (2024) is the new Midsommar, because the amount of people who seem to read Ellen's relationship with Orlock as something positive is just as baffling to me as those who read Dani's story as one with a happy ending.
No hate to people just having fun with the characters. I'm enjoying your fanart. But I'm a bit worried for those of you idealizing it.

I hate the "Mina is bound by Destiny to Dracula (because we need a fanfic of the rape survivor to belong to her rapist)" shit in the movies being used for Ellen by fans saying that she is destiny bound to Orlok like Mina is to Dracula. How about we retire the trope of a woman having no agency to which man she must love.
To be fair, Dracula 1992 tried to be its own thing. Coppola actively took the direction of a gothic romance that transcends time between Mina and Dracula. I get why some people may be into that. Even though I personally don't like my gothic romance with the woman involved being completely lacking in agency and being defined by a convenient idea of 'destiny'.
But I think that Nosferatu 2024 leans more into the gothic horror. There IS a sense of a greater power being at work in the movie, a sense of destiny, but I think that this 'destiny' lies in Ellen's own power. She shapes it, despite the fact that she does not have full control because her society has oppressed her so much that she doesn't even have the language for what she feels and what she is, let alone the training to put her psychic powers into conscious use. And yet they are a big part of her.
Ellen and Orlok are not bound all along. They are not 'meant to be'. She calls for anything in a moment of desperation, she doesn't know what she's signing up for, and he clings onto her, on the one hand providing a sort of bliss that has been and will remain umatched for her until they consummate at the end of the movie, but also violating her. He is able to do so in the first place because HE made a deal that condemned him to be this creature, since (unlike Ellen) he could not accept his nature. And when she tries to escape him, Orlok tries to own her like she's property. He's no better than her oppressors and it's no wonder. He doesn't just represent Ellen's shadow, but also the collective shadow of the patriarchal society that so treats her.
Ellen keeps fighting his influence and by doing so she is partly fighting herself, because her desire is tied to him and she does not know how to reject his evil AND to embrace her natual yearning at the same time. But this is ultimately something that she decides she MUST manage, both for herself and to save the last living person that she loves. And she does. She embraces her sexuality in all its transgressiveness AND crucifies Orlok's evil(which is something that many viewers like to ignore). Even as she has been coerced to her final decision, Ellen uses Orlok's appetite against him and instead of becoming a demon herself, as she feared, she avenges herself, saves Thomas and redeems her society while embracing the sexual instinct that it stigmatized in her.
She is fulfilled by the creature that her body craved AND she has the affirmation of the love that she chose. In her final moment in the human world she is unashamed, accepted, entangled in Orlok's shell but staring at the man she loves; the one she wanted to keep alive. She is not defined by one or the other, but by both. She reaches a state that, while it cannot last indifinately in the human world, is an amalgamation of all the things that SHE desired to have.

To me, Nosferatu (2024) was a story of a young woman who has, yes, been sexually abused since she was a teenager, but still holds onto the fact that there was someone in her life that lived for only her. She hates Count Orlok for so many reasons... But she yearns for the feeling of being cherished like she once was, even though it was so traumatic for her.
Idk maybe I'm projecting but that's why it's so beautiful to me.

The way y'all talk about victims is actually disgusting “she is not just a passive victim” “she summoned him” “don't reduce her to just a victim” what is wrong with a character just being a victim? no seriously, why the fuck do so many of you talk like being a victim is this inferior thing that a character must surpass and become “more than” like i'm sorry but what the fuck is going on here? y'all's aversion to the idea of ellen being a victim of grooming and SA is all rooted in your belief that survivors of abuse aren't normal fucking people capable of any moral and emotional complexity. that's why you feel the need to erase and push so vehemently against the idea because a victim can not feel desire for her abuser and if she displays even a remotely, complex emotion for her abuser then it means it wasn't abuse and that she wanted it all along right? smfh.

Fake Blood
this may seem out of nowhere but I felt like compiling some different versions of fake blood and how to create them. This article was my main resource and contains more information as well. The images are examples of the recipe listed below them.
DIY effects can be great if you're on a budget and/or need lots, but if you wanted something more "professional" (or in some cases safer), specifically blood, some brands I've used and recommend going for would be Ben Nye, Mehron, and Cinema Secrets.
Tumblr media
Kensington Gore (classic, popular in the 60's & 70's):
• Golden syrup, • Warm water, • Food colouring, • Corn starch (adjust for different opacity levels)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam Raimi's Blood Recipe (made to be used in The Evil Dead, cheap and easy to make):
• 2.8 litres clear Karo syrup, • 1.4 litres red food colouring, • 0.5 litres non-dairy creamer, • 1 drop blue food colouring (give or take)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dick Smith’s Blood Recipe (famous, but poisonous):
• 1 litre white corn syrup, • 1 level Tsp methylparaben, • 2 Oz. Ehler red food colour, • 5 Tsp Ehler yellow food colour, • 2 Oz. Kodak Photo-Flo, • 2 Oz. water
The Ehler red and yellow food colours listed are no longer available, but can be substituted with Zinc and red and yellow food dye instead. To make this recipe less poisonous, you can use a food-safe emulsifier such as liquid lecithin instead of the toxic Photo-Flo.
Tumblr media
H.G. Lewis’ Recipe (specifically made to be edible):
• Red dye, • Kaopectate (an antacid/digestion medication made of kaolinite and pectate)
