i just saw a tweet talking about how they look for fics about a certain ship, only for a lot of fics to not be about their ship and i realized i mess up on that tagging too! so, until ao3 makes like a side-ship slot for tagging, maybe just remove those from the tags 😭

Hi! I'm a new reader of yours, and I wanted to reach out to thank you. I know this doesn't balance the awful behaviour you got in the comments. It's just that I find it so wrong. Maybe because personally I owe fanfictions a lot, as a person who needs other people's feelings and motivations spelled out and repeated over and over under different lights and in different words in order to understand them (it also helps me better understand myself). Some of my favourite fics are 30k long unfinished works, and I still love them and their authors to bits, because I owe them a lot of my personal growth. All this ramble just to say that people like you are a blessing and noone should ever pressure you in that awful way. Thank you 💜

and honestly I think it’s become a thing as fanfiction has grown in popularity that people seem to forget that the writers are doing this in their free time and they get motivation from positive feedback. like i’m all for criticism as long as it’s constructive like my writing has gotten so much better because of comments i received when i was in middle school about my bad grammar LOL (i overused semicolons lol)

i think if people want authors to update fics, they should focus on positive feedback. that’s more encouraging than seeing “great. another abandoned fic.” especially because fics imo are rarely abandoned, authors just lost motivation for a bit or got stuck but have the intention to continue one day. at least for me, none of my fics are abandoned. i just got too many ideas all at once so I start fics and then get distracted 💀

anywho sorry for rambling and making this into a think piece LOL but thank you so much!!!!!! most comments are positive ofc but it’s rly easy to focus on the rude ones sometimes.
