Robert Hanna Forever Muir - Hosted by Auburn State Theatre - May 11, 2018
There are more schools, parkways and places named for John Muir than any other historic figure in California, and he is arguably California’s most famous conservationist. His words have inspired generations to protect our country's public lands, and his work has profoundly shaped the very categories through which Americans understand and envision their relationships with the natural world. A Scottish immigrant to Wisconsin in 1848, Muir walked a thousand miles to the Gulf of Mexico in search of nature’s teachings. In 1868 he ended up in California, and from there, the rest is a remarkable and memorable story. Known to many as the “The Father of our National Parks”, Muir wrote 10 complete books and scores of magazine articles about California, Alaska and the wild places of the world. A tireless advocate of wilderness and the preservation of such, his words and efforts remain palpable throughout California and the world.
In his return to the State Theatre, Muir's great-great-grandson, Robert Hanna, will present the history of Muir himself and take the audience on a very personal and up-close look at Muir's life. With many family stories and seldom seen images, this is truly an exciting evening and one not to be missed.

On May 4, 2017, Capitol Ballet Company will be taking part in the Big Day of Giving, a 24-hour online fundraising event aimed at supporting non-profits in the Sacramento region. Last year, we raised over $10,000 on the Big Day of Giving, which is by far our biggest fundraiser. In hopes of even greater success this year, Capitol Ballet Company will hold an open house with a silent auction and raffle prizes in addition to our online fundraising drive. Give online all day or come by to see the studio between 4-7 pm to enjoy some snacks, enter to win prizes, and perhaps catch a sneak peak of our upcoming May 13th spring performance as rehearsals are underway! Link to our BIG DOG page: https://www.bigdayofgiving.org/CapitolBalletCompany Established in 1999, Capitol Ballet Company is a non-profit, pre-professional ballet company directed by Stuart Carroll and Sharon Newton. We are a volunteer organization staffed by highly skilled artistic directors, board members and volunteers, so donations go directly to programming. The training received by our dancers is exceptional, thanks to the experience and dedication of our professional faculty. Capitol Ballet Company works to instill an appreciation of dance and the arts throughout the greater Sacramento Region. We strive to perpetually empower and motivate dancers while enriching the experience of the audiences who attend our performances. Each year we serve over 3,000 individuals through our performances and community outreach. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up on what’s new at CBC!
