The first thing she thought of when she woke up that Sunday morning was about getting coffee instead of making it herself for a change. Since she had a day off and a lot of time for herself that day, she allowed herself to wake up a bit later than usual and enjoy the day and whatever she’d do, which was something she hadn’t thought yet. Scarlett couldn’t think properly about it if she didn’t have any coffee on her system, so that would be something she’d decide later. But since someone run into her and her black coffee was on the floor, that would have to wait until they sorted out that mess. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” she apologized to the man in front of her, more worried about him than about the coffee she just dropped to the floor. “Are you okay?”
Doug was well and truly embarrassed. He could feel his cheeks heating up as he stood waiting for the ground to open up and swallow him whole. “I’m fine, honestly,” he muttered, looking up at the lady in front of him. “Please, let me buy you another coffee,” he asked, wanting to at least make this right, “I need to order mine anyway.” He looked around the coffee shop and was pleased that, at the very least, it was fairly empty and there was nobody he recognised who would have seen his faux pas. He looked around for something to clean up with and noticed some cloths on the side, which he grabbed and began to mop up the spilt liquid. This was not the day he had planned at all.

Location: Sundaze Open Starter @westlakestarters
Doug had been through a particularly busy week and was ready to enjoy his lazy Sunday off. One of his clients had completely disregarded his earlier advice and had now put themselves under increased financial strain - somehow it was now Doug’s job to fix the mess he had never wanted anyone to be in. It was annoying and he didn’t typically do well with de-stressing when he had a bad week, instead dwelling on it until he went stir crazy and worked through the night to fix everything. Not this time though, this time he was determined to give himself a break. With this in mind, he tidied up his home, read a book and gave his dog a bath. Satisfied with his work so far, he nodded to nobody in particular and set off to grab himself a coffee. It should come as a surprise to nobody that Doug was a little caffeine obsessed. His long hours and lack of sleep played a toll on him and he couldn’t get through the day without several cups of strong black coffee. Still, he rarely went out just to grab a coffee, as it was far too trivial to waste time on. Seeing as this was his day to waste as much time as possible, he now saw grabbing a coffee as the ideal way to relax. Or at least, he did, until he walked into Sundaze and straight into the person in front of him - sending them, and their coffee, flying. “Oh shit,” he muttered, looking around to see if there was any hope in hell of him sorting this out.

BIOGRAPHY
Douglas was born into a very fortunate family. His father, Sakchai, was a well-regarded investment analyst who spent much of his time away from home as he consulted with important firms and banks around the world. Meanwhile, his mother, Malai, worked as a florist — usually catering for weddings and other large events. Douglas spent a lot of time at his mother’s florist shop, helping her out with the flowers and doing his homework in the back room away from the customers. He loved getting a chance to go to weddings and see all the happy brides and grooms smile and laugh, ecstatic on what should be the happiest day of their lives. When he was eight, his younger sister, Elizabeth, was born and seemed to complete their perfect family. Doug liked her well enough but wasn’t too fussed about her one way or the other – the age gap was just slightly too big to push them together the way that their mother seemed to want them to get on, but Doug looked out for her and they spent their weekends together when asked. Then, when Doug was fourteen, the family moved to New York City so his father could be closer to the businessmen he worked with. His parents claimed the move was to save their marriage but all Doug could see it doing was ending it. His mother lost all her contacts so her business had to be shuttered, both he and Lizzie were taken from their friends, and his father still barely ever came home. From their penthouse suite, Doug planned to live his life better than his parents had – with a greater purpose to it all.
On completion of high school, Doug went to his Dad’s preferred university choice of Yale. He majored in Math, just like his father wanted him to; and he panicked that maybe he wasn’t going to be able to get out of his family’s clutches like he had always thought he would. He was reliant on his parents to pay his tuition and give him a place to stay when he graduated, so he had to do what they wanted, at least for a little while. Using his family’s connections, he got a job as an actuary, working in a job that was definitely way too much for him way too soon. He had to lie and fabricate and pretend that he knew what he was doing, hoping that nobody would call his bluff. Whether he succeeded, or whether everyone was just too scared to fire Sakchai’s son, he will never know, but he kept progressing up the ranks. Soon enough, his salary was enough to move out with so he did. At the age of 26, he made the decision to up sticks and move to the West Coast, he wanted out from the world his parents inhabited and needed to do it soon. He applied for naturalization at this time too, beginning the process needed for him to become an American citizen, which would help him get employed easier.
The first few months in Westlake were really tough. Doug wasn’t used to making friends and moving away from his support network and college friends was difficult. He kept to himself and didn’t meet his neighbours for months, choosing instead to stay in and focus on work. However, as he set up shop as a local actuary, willing to help local businesses (for a hefty fee), he began to meet new people. He joined a church, went to the gym and allowed himself to be present in the town for the first time. He was no longer worried about his father looking over his shoulder and judging him, nor did he have to compare himself to his more successful classmates. Everything he earned in Westlake, he earned for himself. With his citizenship in hand, Doug celebrated all his successes, and proudly returned to New York City to tell his family, only to find out his parents’ marriage was in tatters. His father’s workaholic tendencies had finally driven them apart now that Lizzie had also moved out for good.
With his actuarial consultancy set up, a house mortgaged and a puppy bought, Doug’s life is looking pretty good. He is satisfied with where he’s at and is now looking to expand his enterprises by training new staff under himself. With his own life in order, though, he’s begun to feel lonelier, and top of his priority list is fully settling in to the town he has called home for seven years.
TRAITS
Positive: Assertive | Driven | Mature
Negative: Arrogant | Detached | Uptight
HEADCANONS
Short of money while in university, Doug took up the role of relationship columnist and problem solver in a local paper. He wrote under an assumed name of Romana Boots and made some decent change off the little endeavour. However, he had to stop when he sent his sister some of his advice columns and she accidentally left them out for their parents to find. Since then, his father has held it over his head as his greatest embarrassment.
He is one of the lightest drunks you will ever meet. As he hates being out of control, he chooses to almost never drink and it means he really trusts you if he lets you see him like that.
His most prized possession is an old toy dolphin one of the women who came into his mother’s shop gave him. They had been to her wedding and six-year-old Doug made such an impression, she bought him a little gift when she went to say thank you days later.
Douglas Chanlek is portrayed by Emma.

LOCATION: KingDom Gym @: Everyone STARTER: @westlakestarters
After afight broke out in his gym between a handful of people, Dom decided to closethe doors for the day. He couldn’t take anymore bullshit. Being his own bossmeant he was in control of his own hours and whether or not the fitness studiowould be open or closed. However, people were still showing up, wondering whythey couldn’t get their workout in or their time in the boxing ring. Feeling alittle more relaxed after a few shots of tequila, Dom decided to let only aselect few inside. His favorite customers / friends. His only request was forno one to post anything onto social media regarding the gym for the day. Hedidn’t want everyone coming back, thinking he was open because he wasn’t. “Iknow some of you are here to keep your body strong and your mind focused, but Ijust ordered a shit ton of greasy food, so…” Dom laughed with a beer in hand. It wasn’tbusiness hours, he could do whatever he wanted. For the night, these were hisfriends, not his customers.
Doug was a regular at the gym but he didn’t really know anyone there. He went there to get fit, blow off some steam and for something to do when he had nothing better on his plate. Socialising was not one of his biggest hobbies and he never planned on making friends when he had the chance to just stew in his own company. However, upon arriving at the gym, it seemed this was going to be a different kind of day - only a few were allowed in and the owner seemed far more relaxed than Doug had ever seen him before. Doug smiled, actually fairly relaxed in the chilled-out atmosphere, going over to the punching bags and pulling out his boxing gloves. With fewer people around, he could spend longer testing out his form and he appreciated that. On hearing about a food order, though, he cocked a smile and did something he would never normally do, spoke up. “Last I heard, greasy food was the best food for keeping the mind strong,” he called out, chuckling as he wandered over towards the mass group of people.

• OPEN STARTER » @westlakestarters
“Oh, and let me get a plate of quesadillas with the special house sauce. Thanks.” The corners of Breanna’s mouth turned up as the waiter left. Having a solo date—just her and some toasty nachos—felt like she was on cloud nine. Like clockwork, a specific ringtone disturbed her gooey, delectable chip dipping moment and she whined quietly before accepting the call. “Hey mom… yes. Actually, I’m doing something really important right now. …No, not that. I’m in a business meeting. …Yeah well, it’s a work lunch, okay. I’m with someone—” She tapped the speaker icon on the screen, extending an arm out to hold the phone closer to the person at an adjacent table. As her facial expression displayed threat, her lips mouthed “I’ll pay,” followed by a gesture towards their order.
Doug was sat, ready for his lunch, a book in his hand. It was fairly busy in the restaurant but he felt relaxed and enjoyed the solitude that came with being undisturbed. He was finally getting into the rhythm of the new book, wondering what might happen next, when a phone appeared between his face and the words on the page. He recoiled a little, wondering what on earth could be going on. Slowly, he looked up and saw a woman at the neighbouring table. He caught the end of her words to whoever was on the other end of the line and he stuttered a little, unsure what he was even supposed to say. “Um- Hello... Mr Doug Chanlek here, sorry that now’s a bad time to call...” he said fairly loudly, looking over at the woman with a question in his eyes. Once the call had ended, he looked over at her, “I don’t need your charity.”

WHERE: Zin Bistro

STARTER: @westlakestarters
“I’d grab this free stuff while it’s still here—-” Luca took the first slice of pizza and threw himself into the comfiest chair he could find, the production crew outside setting their equipment up in double quick time. Westlake was run by Hollywood, it had been since he was a boy, so when a director demanded shots of a location in town, they got them no matter what. Today, it meant shutting down an entire street for an hour and locking everyone away like animals in a cage. “Just be glad we ain’t stuck in the bookstore, there isn’t anything in the way of free food and beer there.”
Well, this was irritating, Doug thought. When he had moved to Westlake, he hadn’t even known that it was such a popular place to shoot, let alone that it would affect him quite so much. He’d soon realised how wrong he was but now he was here, and so was Hollywood. At least there were others trapped at the end of this street, he supposed. He looked over to where the voice was coming from and shrugged. “I don’t drink, but I’ll have the pizza,” he replied, gingerly taking a piece, trying not to think of all the germs lying around in the open air. “I would like to go home, though, it’s been a long day of work and I’m ready for my couch.”
