merrypoppy:
poppy perked up, she did have a few dog items, and she couldn’t have been more happy that she did.  she felt perhaps, a little silly when she had first purchased them, it’s not like she carried any pet medication.  but now she happily stepped from behind the counter to guide the girl to the correct isle.  “certainly, we have some medicated dog shampoo that should help,” she said as she quickly moved through the small store.  “well thank you, i do hope it does some good.  i’m not sure how anyone in this town survived without a pharmacy for so long,” she said.  she pulled a bottle from off a high shelf, “here we are, perhaps this will work for you”
Tumblr media
“Oh, good.” Dorothy followed the lady as she quickly zipped through the store, looking about at all the well-stocked shelves as she followed. She wondered how shop owners got all the products together before opening, it seemed like an impossible task. “No, it does seem strange that there wasn’t one. Where I used to live there wasn’t much fo anything, we’d have to stock up on stuff just in case. Every so often we’d drive to the nearest town and have a big shop, it used to be quite exciting when I was a kid. There used to be this one place we’d go, a little out of town, it was a massive warehouse full of animal stuff. For horses and all that. That was my favorite part of the big shop. They had a ginger cat there I used to try and pet him.” Dorothy took the bottle and read the label, “Oh thank you, this looks good. It’s wonderful that you’ve put this little shop together it will make life so much easier.”

Dorothy had no idea where in town she was. She had been taking Toto for a walk, thinking it would be a simple stroll to the park, around the block, and back home. Instead, she found herself in an area of town she could not recognize at all. As she walked she kept stopping and starting, looking around for some sign pointing to home. But she could not find one. Every so often she would check her phone again, but it was out of data and no use.  This area of town worried Dorothy. The streets seemed eerily quiet and empty beer bottles and trash lined the edges of the street. She didn’t exactly live in a nice place, but this area felt different, it made her uneasy. Though perhaps it was simply Dorothy’s overactive imagination. The vulnerability of being alone in a new place playing tricks on her mind.  Again, she fumbled in her pocket for her phone, knowing it was out of data and would be no use. Just as she pulled it out of her pocket Toto began barking and running towards something. Dorothy was pulled forward by the leash and tripped over, dropping her phone onto the concrete floor. She looked up to see that it had landed at the foot of a stranger, the very thing Toto had run forward to bark at. And was still barking at now.
“Sorry.” Dorothy said, not sure what else to say.

tinkerisms:
“I am positive.” She muses with a nod of her head, shrugging softly. “I know what that’s like, and if I can make it easier on you by not having you pay your meal today, then I would love to do so.” Tati explains and listens to her words. “Well, this place is very popular so, warning.”
Tumblr media
“Well...” Dorothy still pondered the offer, “Okay then - and thank you.... obviously,” Dorothy said, blushing both at the awkwardness of her reply and the strange feeling that came along with accepting charity from strangers. “And thank you for the warning too. No doubt this place is popular if the waitresses are all as kind as you’ve been today.” She smiled then realised she hadn’t actually chosen what to eat, “Oh yes, I suppose I’d like the Grilled Cheese. If that’s alright.”

boomaryanne:
watching the dainty foot lift from her paper, maryanne internally thanked the girl, took the paper, and tucked it back away in her notebook. it surprised her, though, seeing the girl bend to her level and ask if she needed help. that didn’t happen very often. “ it’s - all - right. ” she was still following her original capture method - slapping her hands down on each piece of paper, like she was squishing a bug, and picking them up before more wind could catch them - even if it wasn’t entirely effective. “ i don’t want to be any more trouble. ” the blush hadn’t quite faded from her cheeks; if anything, it only got worse when she looked up to see all of her papers spewed out on the sidewalk. “ yeah, they’re-  ” she sighed. “ they’re all mine. ” maybe she should take the help.
Tumblr media
“Oh, it’s no trouble.” Dorothy said, starting to collect the papers, “I just finished work this week work and I’ve got no place to be. Well not urgently anyway.” She reached up to catch a couple pages caught by the wind before they could be blown down the street. As she gathered them, she tried to stop the pages getting anymore crumpled through it was a little difficult. “And I’m sure it won’t take too long with the two of us.” Dorothy couldn’t help but be a little curious as to what was written on the paper, but she knew better than to read someone else's writing. Still, she wondered about the girl and so began to ask questions, “What about you? I mean, what was your day like? Are you doing anything interesting?”

Dorothy wasn’t a big reader and as a result wasn’t a big library go-er either. Still, it probably should’ve occurred to her that bringing Toto was a bad idea. She walked into the shop, Toto running in front on his leash. When the owner greeted her Dorothy smiled and replied with a cheery “Hello.” before Toto spotted Elle’s white cat and begun a chorus of loud high-pitched barks. “Oh God.” Dorothy scooped up the little dog in her arms. “Toto! Quiet, please.” She scolded, her cheeks flushing red, she turned to Elle, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have brought him in. I just wanted to look around.”
Tumblr media
Elle had been so into her book that she had neglected to hear the bell to the door ring at Turn the Page. She only realized someone was inside when she heard a book close. She placed her bookmark in between the pages before walking over to where she heard the noise. “Hi!” she greeted. “So sorry I missed you when you walked in, is there anything I can help you with?”

After passing the crosswalk Dorothy stopped briefly to check her phone when she felt something poke her shoe and heard a voice below her. Perplexed, Dorothy looked down and saw a girl trying to get a piece of paper from under Dorothy’s foot. “Oh, my, sorry.” She apologized and lifted her foot off the paper. Seeing the embarrassment in the girls blushing face Dorothy wondered how she could make her feel better and knelt down on the floor beside her. “Do you need some help? I’ve got some free time.” She looked across at the pavement and saw more pages stamped into the ground, “I guess they’re all yours.”
Tumblr media
there weren’t many things that maryanne was secretive about. she was a pretty open book, easy to read when it came to emotions and the like. however, she kept her writing to herself, all of it, even the things she didn’t like all that much. writing was such a personal part of her, her dreams and her ideas and little pieces of her that no one else really needed to see. all of that was wrapped in a notebook, one that was thrown from her hands when she tripped over the lip of sidewalk. it - and her - hit the ground, the papers fluttering up and outward in a very movie-liked fashion. “ oh no, ”she whispered from her hands and knees, watching as they spread out and around, red flushing her cheeks. “ frick, frick frick… ” she started to gather what she could, slapping her hands down on different pieces of paper before they could take off. there were still quite a few pieces of her notebok left when the people started walking. she must’ve been at the end of a crosswalk, because suddenly there were lots of feet, and her anxiety was spiking, and her work was going to get ruined…
just as she reached for one of her pieces of paper, a foot stepped on it and didn’t move. pausing a moment to figure out just what to do, her instinct took over and she gently poked their foot. “ beep beep. ” what the hell was that, mary ? what are you, four ? “ could you move your foot, please ? it’s uh - its on my work. ” she looked up at them, red still deep-set in her round cheeks.

“Hello!” Dorothy replied happy to be greeted into a shop so warmly. “Do you have a pet care section?” She asked, walking further into the shop and scanning the shelves “Toto’s been biting his fur, I think it might be fleas. He’s my dog by the way. It’s a good thing you just opened! I don’t know of any other pharmacy’s ‘round here. But then I haven’t been here that long so what do I know.”

poppy was in the shop, her shop.  she loved saying that.  being here was a dream come true.  perhaps she didn’t picture herself in america in a small town in maine, but for some reason that’s where she ended up, and she couldn’t be more pleased.  so there she was, in her shop stocking shelves, sweeping up, and keeping her eye on the door just hoping the little bell above it would ring, signaling that a customer had entered.  sure enough, after a few minutes, it did.  poppy stood up straight, brushed herself off, and smiled.
“hello!” she greeted the customer warmly, “is there anything I can help you find today?”

“Are you okay?” Dorothy asked. She did not have the air of someone who had just been walked into but instead was curious about this stranger who just walked straight into her. “You look a little lost.” She observed, seeing how Jane looked around and stumbled about as if she didn’t really have any direction in mind. Dorothy had that same appearance a few weeks ago when she first went exploring in Apple Creek and couldn’t quite find her way home. Though she supposed this girl could just be nervous for some reason, or distracted, or clumsy. “Are you trying to get somewhere?” Dorothy asked though she was doubtful as to how helpful she could be. She still didn’t know much of the town.

it probably wasn’t right of jane to skip her classes, but there was just something in that told her that she had other things to do.. like explore the city? get some coffee at the tea kettle instead of making it for once or maybe have lunch at one of the many resurants and cafées.. maybe she’d look at fowers, or clothes, things or get a haircut.. her options were more or less endless, all she knew was that she needed to do something different.. the girl turned her head to look behind her, but as she did she was quick to walk into something that came in front of her.. “oof–” a noise came out of her as she stumbled back, turning to look up and over at what she’d bumped into, seeing someone stand there, looking rather confused if anything.. “Oh– i’m so sorry.. Should’ve seen where i was going..”

Raising an eyebrow up at her, she blinks and shakes her head. “Really? Sorry, this place tends to be so popular, it’s a surprise when people haven’t been here.” She laughs and presses her lips together. “I like the French toast for breakfast, and the Grilled Cheese for lunch.” Tati explains, watching the expression on her face change as she frowns, memories of the orphanage finding its way into her mind. “It’s on the house.”
Tumblr media
“Oh.. are you sure?” Dorothy asked, a little embarrassed by the other girls’ generosity “It’s very kind of you but I can pay. I’m just... well I’m just getting used to living on my own. I actually only just moved round here a couple weeks ago. That’s why I haven’t eaten here yet.”

Dorothy smiled sweetly at the enthusiastic waitress. “I’m not sure. I haven’t been here before. What would you recommend?” She asked. Dorothy was not used to eating out, and only came to the Diner for a taste of something new during her work break. She glanced over the menu, mostly taking in the various prices. “I probably shouldn’t spend too much.” She added, thinking of the empty space in her fridge at home.

Taking in a deep breath as the blonde’s eyes scanned around Granny’s diner, the sound of the bell ringing every few seconds or so considering how busy it had been today, she noticed the new person walk right in and take a seat at the booth in the corner, it was her area so, placing a smile onto her lips, hoping that it didn’t seem too fake, she walked over to them, pulling the pen from her hair that was neatly wrapped in a top bun. “Hello, what can I get for you today?” She asks with an excited tone.

“Cheers.” Dorothy answered, taking the glass. She was a bit below the drinking age but she managed to get into the bar regardless. It was her first weekend off since arriving at Apple Peak, and, keen to meet new people, she sneaked in hoping to find a friend in one of the strangers she found here. However, until now, she had been too shy to approach anyone and so was thankful to the bartender for coming to her table. “You won’t get in trouble, will you? I’d hate to feel responsible.” She added after clinking her glass.

it was another boring night at stinky pete’s. pouring drinks, watching the residents of apple peak drown their sorrows and wishing that he was somewhere else. however, felix wasn’t one to mope, he was one to make his own fun. and even though deep down, he knew it was morally wrong, something was preventing him from doing the right thing. pouring two glasses of whiskey, he made his way over to someone who was sitting alone, giving them a grin as he handed them the glass. “not, usually allowed to drink on the job, you know, but i think i can make an exception. cheers?” the bartender said, reaching over to clank his glass against the others.

hey there! i’m lea, i’m 17, from the uk and i am super exicted to be writing dorothy gale with all of you! if you’d like to plot or chat just hmu! i love fairytales, animated films, and musicals. i love the wizard of oz cause it’s basically like the american fairytale. anway, enough of this, below the cut is some info all about dorothy
Dorothy was born in Apple Peak to a single mother. But sadly, her mother died when Dorothy was very young and she was sent to live with her Aunt and Uncle in Kansas
Life on her Aunt & Uncle’s Kansas farm was quite lonely but being a child Dorothy didn’t mind too much. She liked to play around with all the farmyard animals and to run around the Praire land playing make belief
When she was 10 years old her Aunt gave her a young puppy from the farm dogs litter. Dorothy named him Toto and loved him very much. He’s a little old now but still has a lot of energy.
Living in the middle of nowhere, Dorothy was mostly homeschooled. When she was 10 she moved to a school in a nearby town, having to take a long bus ride there every morning. The school was small and underfunded, so Dorothy did not have the best education. It doesn't bother her too much though. She is quite happy with a simple life.
At first, Dorothy found it difficult to make friends, but by listening and being kind to those around her she found a small group of misfits and oddballs she got along with quite well.
After leaving school Dorothy decided she would go back and stay in the town her parents lived in. It would be quite a big adventure for her to leave the small home she knows best, but she was determined to forget her nerves and discover somewhere new.
She found a job at the inn cleaning, it made barely any money but she did not mind. She was used to living cheaply and was simply happy to be somewhere new. So long as she had a safe place to sleep and enough food for both her and Toto, her shabby living conditions did not bother her.
