I saw everyone on twitter tearing Emma Watson apart for saying she’s self - partnered instead of single and decided to watch her interview for British Vogue to know what the hell was she trying to say with that. I was very surprised to find a 30 minute video in which amongst other things she talks about the following:

She felt undeserving when she was appointed as UN Women goodwill ambassador and sought out Gloria Steinem to learn about feminist activism.

She thinks the criticism she received for being a white feminist was useful because it made her educate herself.

She says there’s a desperate need to reform the education system in the UK to change the way they are taught the history of how Britain has been involved in foreign affairs and how they profited from slavery.

She felt anxious about approaching 30 because there’s a lot of pressure to have a husband and a baby by then and she’s still figuring her life out.

She was so young when she was casted in Harry Potter that she doesn’t remember much of her life before it and she went to therapy to deal with her issues with fame. She used to feel very guilty for being unhappy because she thought she should enjoy fame more.

The interviewer is a transgender woman and they discuss transgender issues for a while. Emma is in regular contact with a trans child which makes the topic of trans rights emotional for her because she’s very anxious for this kid’s safety.

She talks about her role as Meg March in the new Little Women movie and defends that unlike what many people say choosing to be a wife and a mother doesn’t make Meg a less feminist character and quotes a line from the movie, “Just because my dreams are different than yours it doesn’t mean they are unimportant.”  

She wishes more people would realize she’s not Hermione Granger but also understands why they want to see that in her because Hermione is a symbol for her too.

She used to think she could never be happy without a partner and now that she has learnt to navigate that better and is genuinely happy single she’s started to think of herself as self - partnered in contrast to the time when she thought of herself as single = lonely.

Every media outlet decided to focus in an out of context quote from the three minutes she talked about her dating life when the actual interview had a lot of depth and way more important things were discussed. I’m sad and angry but not surprised.

the concept of how sir arthur conan doyle was as a person always sends me into fits. imagine making the most famous literary character of all time but you hate the character so much you try to kill him off. but everyone is so horny for this asshole detective they make you bring him back. even your own mother gets mad when he’s dead because she likes him. raising your prices to ridiculous rates to avoid writing holmes stories backfired and now you’re rich. it’s absolutely a pain because it’s keeping you from your true passion which is spiritualism despite how one of your good friends harry houdini keeps telling you it’s bullshit. you consider your best novels to be historical ones but they’re well over shadowed by the nemesis of your own creation sherlock fucking holmes. some fake photographs from some kids convinced you faeries were real and you wrote a whole book about it. you started writing stories in medical school. and yes, also you are a doctor. after you’re dead, they erect a statue of sherlock holmes across the street from your birthplace, causing you to probably roll over one hundred eighty degrees in your grave and scream into your casket pillow.

Letters for my Sun

I’ve started wrinting. It’s not DT based or anything. I suppose it’s my inner world needs to be shown sometimes.

Please save me. Save me from myself. Sometimes i just desperately need to run far away from my thoughts, from the feeling how they eat me alive from the inside till i can’t feel anything but the pain in every bone of my body. Destroy everyone around me. And apparently it’s nothing of a big deal in fact. But inside it feels like a black hole that vanished the world around me. And nobody can hear me through it.

And you know, i’ve noticed that nobody cares in fact. Nobody’s interested in what you thinking, what you going through, what you dreaming of. Why did you cry, what nightmares chased you tonight. You have to only listen, nod your head, smile and sometimes ask the “right” questions. Till then - live your own life. Do not disturb others - that’s the key.

Such cold and foreign world terrifies me. When it seems that all the words, sounds, all that I try to reenact is absorbed by a vacuum and nobody, not a single person can hear me. In fact everyone is just slowly dying in personal single cell in the back of their minds.

Save me please. I know you can. You have so much light inside. I just can’t see its glares through the cold blurry screen. I know that it’s hiding somewhere, on its way from East to West. I wonder maybe it’s just hidind above the dark grey clods or behind the building across the street. But at moments like this it seems that it faded away, that sun will never rise, I’ll never see it’s light again. And even if i find myself in the middle of a hot summer day I will be still frizzing cold inside down to my figer tips.

But we all know - the Sun can’t dissapear. All I’m asking you to give me a few rays of yours. In other way - i will not survive. Can’t stay awake. Can’t fall asleep.

My hands are treacherously shaking. Forgive me, my Sun. All i wanted to do is make you happy.
