partner & i found this cinderella vanity set a few moths ago while thrifting. it used to be this trans flag colored plastic affair:

i removed the explicitly cinderella details, painted the furniture & added velvet upholstery. presented here by a frankie/vandala custom whose jacket is stolen from a one piece figure & claw from an actual crab.

I don't really care for plastic doll accessories overmuch. G3 Monster High, what's with all the food? And so many dolls come with sunglasses, which I NEVER use. But I absolutely love it when they come with pets! Bratz Tokyo-A-Go-Go robot pets are my favourites.

Look back month challenge day 15: Custom you made

If you've been following me for a long time and/or are a friend of mine, you probably know that I have made a lot of plush toys. They were my number one thing to make for years, before I started having hand pain & then discovered how much fun I have making doll clothes.

Here's something completely different, my first custom doll! I don't remember if I ever shared her on here before... The first photo is her when I first finished her a few years ago, and the second photo is her today. I need to fix her up a bit (she was damaged in an earthquake a few years ago) and I want to sew her nicer clothes sometime... But I really like her half squid body!

Look Back Month Challenge, Day 17 - Most interesting or unusual toy. (Part 1)

These are Marvelie dolls and they are probably the most obscure toys in my collection. I might go so far as to call them the doll equivalent of lost media, in the sense that you're unlikely to find any record of their existence aside from photos I've posted.

There was a Kickstarter campaign in 2016, which I contributed to, but unfortunately it didn't meet its goal in time. Since the Kickstarter was a bust I bought my dolls directly from the official website, which no longer exists. (I actually only paid for one doll but ultimately ended up getting three. Due to a mix-up with the postage, the package was returned and had to be sent out a second time, and they gave me two extra dolls to apologize for the delay.)

I have not seen any talk whatsoever about Marvelie anywhere on the internet, and Google doesn't turn up anything. It's possible that I'm the only person who bought any of these dolls before the website shut down.

Day 17: Most interesting or unusual doll.

This is a 7-inch Bild Lilli clone, also known as a Hong Kong Lilli. I was lucky to find her in a collection of souvenir costume dolls. Clones were already being made of Bild Lilli even before Barbie came along, so this girl could be from the 1950s (which would make her my actual oldest doll, sorry Sindy!). Hong Kong Lillis aren't particularly valuable or even that rare out of box, but she's interesting to me for her small size and her part in the history of fashion dolls.

i love non-horse centaurs. i mean, horse centaurs also, but back when i made customs, it was one of my favorite things to go around thrift stores to find cheap toys that were in monster high centaur butt scale. i still have a box of various hybrids in weird limbo where the bodies are assembled, but i'm not sure if i'm ever going to finish the dolls. might make some of them as bjds eventually.

Day 15: Have you ever made a custom?

I've made a few, but this is the one I was working on most recently: my custom trans Lady Lovely Locks prince. I got the head (originally Maiden Fair Hair) some time ago in a bundle. The hair had been cut short, but in a neat and careful way. LLL bodies are nearly identical to Mattel Todd and Stacie bodies, so I put the head on a spare Todd body. I took off his lip colour with rubbing alcohol and then dressed him in a purple colour scheme to match his lovely purple eyes, and to distinguish him from the canon LLL Prince Strongheart doll who wears blue. His name is Squire Violet-Eyes 😍.
