People say Sword Art Online is a bad anime, and I can see why they feel that way, but I enjoyed it because it was fun to watch. I like fun things for being fun even if the "quality" of them isn't considered great by a lot of people in the community.
I like my SMDs. It feels a bit sad to see people say they look like shit or are gross or bad taste etc. because the company owner is shitty. I know I shouldn't take others' opinions on my own hobbies to heart, but I do want to say- if you don't like Danny Choo, there are nicer ways to express that than bashing people who like the dolls for fun and don't have/want anything to do with the CEO's batshittery. I hate that these dolls are associated with him. But I want to enjoy these dolls like some people enjoy "bad anime" without having to see people claim I have horrible taste for liking something they don't.
Idk why I keep thinking appeals to kindness will work on a confession blog of all things, but I just wanted to point out that you are hurting more than the DC supporters when you may not mean to when you call Smartdolls ugly and such. You can be against bad people's actions without catching innocents in the crossfire. If you really hate SMDs, that's your choice and I respect that. But a lot of people seem to be hating on them because of Danny Ch0o himself, and I wish you would consider that many people.. just like the dolls?

How do you not throw your money at new releases in this hobby? Like, if only I had endless disposable income, I'd gladly give most of them to the artists! It's so hard to choose! It's a very happy problem but at the same time, my god this hobby is getting some pretty amazing choices in sculpts and designs in the last decade and if only I can buy them all! 😭 Lord please send more money my way so I can keep supporting amazing people!!!🙏

Mmm, fanart. Yum yum copyright infringement. Let me eat your precious manga pages.
... anyway, I'd love to see more fictional character based dolls, I love how they're a tribute to something someone loves and cares a lot about! If anyone wants to post about the legalese of fanart versus copyright, I'll be busy enjoying my dolls and holding my favorite fictional characters in my arms :)

I really really REALLY wish that the D0llfie Dre@m Icons were available with the other standard models on the V0lks website, or even that they could be bought through Dream Choice! I'd pay for a proxy to get me an Icon through the Dream Choice system! The fact that they're lottery only really sucks. I entered for an Icon in tawny but ended up not winning and now I feel miserable.

I am so tired of companies releasing monster or beast-headed men and giving the women the human head with ears. Maybe even a tail or claws. The men look bold, intimidating, sometimes scary while the ladies look cute and fluffy and...ugh, demure. Like, give me a lady doll that makes my skin crawl. Give me a monster girl who is intimidating and fluffy. Like, come on. I want a beast-headed femme doll to add to my collection. I know they could do it!!

#i just want the male and female beast dolls to look like they're from the same race#instead of looking like early video game sexism at work#so yes please let the girls look as scary or beastly as the guys#heck even the cutesy anthro guys will have girl counterparts that are just human girl + animal ears#and that bugs me just as much#LET THE GIRLS LOOK SOMETHING OTHER THAN BEAUTY STANDARD PRETTY#mew rambles in the tags

Hey doll friends, do you have doll questions? I'm a doll customizer that's carrying a lot of dolls in my stock box, and every so often, I get questions about sculpts, compatibility, height comparisons, etc. I'm endlessly fascinated by the way these dolls are built, so today I'm opening the floor to you to talk about all their fun details.
If you'd like more insight about a particular doll/dolls, like how they compare to each other, details in their sculpts, etc, send a message to my Askbox, and I'll try to answer with photos and text!

Doll clothes I made in…1998? This was when I first experimented with scanning and enlarging the piece identification guides from commercial patterns, although I believe all the guy clothes were made with commercial doll patterns. All the gals’ pants may have been from commercial patterns, too (pretty sure I modified something to make the enormous flares PJ had)
I made the couch, too, with the intent that it looked like something old in a basement
I would have been somewhere around 24, having been sewing human-size stuff seriously for 5 years at that point. Doll clothes still seemed ridiculously tiny and I didn’t really sew any more of them until 2001.

Another 1995 or ‘96 repaint, although only the eyes, of a Disney Belle, because that was the only closed-mouth sculpt I remember being able to find at the time. Although, looking at how lumpy and matte it is, maybe I painted over the top lip, too? I was using thick thick artist acrylics left over from college.
I took the photo, back then, with a diopter (basically a magnifying glass filter, a cheap alternative to a macro lens) on the camera lens, to get this close-up image, because doll faces just seemed so small back then.

My first completely repainted doll, wearing me-made clothes, from 1995 or ‘96
I remember that I didn’t paint light reflections in the eyes, I just…glossed ‘em
