Surface Level Relatability

Funnily enough, I hate the word relatability. It's such a misused word and it's also the reason why majority of content nowadays is so patronizing and boring.

I understand that people like things they can "relate to" but you should be able to relate to things beyond appearance or sexuality or any of that stuff. You can relate to struggles, beliefs, dreams, and even the peeves of such characters.

... but if you can only relate to the surface level stuff, it just starts to turn into some self-aggrandizing fever dream at that point. It also blinds you to certain things - like the quality of the work in question.

Kuroki Gensai is terrifying but

Okay so lemme throw you Kengan lovers an olive branch. You all need to understand that while Kuroki is super strong, don't forget that he's still fighting the Connector (if that chance ever comes around again). We've seen his victories - we've seen his skill but even then, we don't even know what else the Connector would be capable of. Shen literally lowered himself to Gaoh Mukaku's level just to have a little bit of fun.

Of course, that's to say that anything can happen. Anything can go down in a manga like this. I think it's just such a huge disservice to these characters when people immediately turn against them just cause they can't beat a certain obstacle/rival. It's that kind of thinking that makes these characters as just action figures you can crush against each other but not love genuinely. You gotta love 'em - badass moments and getting their asses handed to them moments.

You ever think about how weird hippos are ecologically speaking?

There's literally no other megafauna on earth that spends the entire day lounging around in water, mostly just socializing, only to come onto land to feed at night.

I remember when I used to do education programs on hippos, most people assumed they ate aquatic plants, and that that's the whole reason they were in water. Meanwhile, hippos are basically just giant nocturnal cows that eat only grass.

I took leap at the evil warlock.

One of my new favorite moments in DnD was jumping at the warlock flying a few feet ahead of me. It was a cliffside and holy crap were things going to be bad if I missed. My level 7 monk, however, wasn't effing around and wanted to protect his friends. So I just tell the DM: "I'm going to leap at him and with my Open Hand feature, I will knock him down to the ground with an unarmed strike." I succeed the check to get to him in midair and I send both of us plummeting to the ground. Best part? I hit him again with another punch - Nat20 roll btw. Freaking fantastic.
