What are the most popular hunting dogs?
On Dog Hunters of Aurora, we love dogs… We love all of them, really! They are the greatest pets, our best friends, our life partners and for us – our hunting partners! Even though we love all dog breeds, you can probably tell yourself that not all breeds make perfect hunting partners. In this article, we’re bringing you a list of 3 most popular hunting dogs today… Even if your dog is not on our list, that doesn’t have to mean you can’t be wonderful hunting partners. It all depends on the way you play! Keep reading to find out about the most popular ones.
Labrador Retriever
We all know Labradors are an extremely intelligent breed and they generally have a good temper. Apart from being so intelligent and well-behaved, Labs have a good work ethic and that’s why they’re used by people in many different fields and areas. Apart from being used in hunting, Labradors are also commonly used in therapy work and as assistants to those disabled. They have a great sense of smell, because of which are great for tracking and detection jobs. Labs are usually listed on top of the most popular hunting dogs lists around the web, and we know why.
Their immense energy combined with their obedience make those hunting trips with them unforgettable and highly successful! Labradors also have high resistance to cold weather, so no fear you’ll have to leave them out during those cold days. Bring your Labrador with you next time you go hunting and be astonished by its intelligence and initiative. To learn more about their behavior, check out  The Labrador Site.
German Shorthaired Pointer
This breed was developed in Germany, specifically for hunting purposes and is still today one of the most popular hunting dogs in America. It’s a versatile breed, perfect for both adventures on land and in water. Although its thin skin makes Pointer inadequate for hunting during cold weather, since most of the American territory has warmer weather, Pointers should still be suitable – especially on the South.
Although this breed makes an uncommon house pet, it has been extremely popular as a hunting partner throughout many years. German Shorthaired Pointer has very strong legs and therefore moves rapidly, so… Make sure you’re quick and agile enough so you can follow up to your Pointer’s rhythm and speed while hunting.
Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is extremely popular as a house pet but is also very popular on the lists of the most popular hunting dogs. These Gold puppies are a large-sized breed which is very easy to train and therefore make perfect hunting partners. Golden Retrievers also have a congenital love for water, so no need to worry should you bring them to your water adventures, or hunting missions near rivers or lakes – they’ll do more than fine. Golden Retrievers have muscular bodies and are very durable and energic.
As we already said, Golden Retrievers are easily trainable, extremely intelligent and athletic. They’re also very competitive in terms of their physical abilities. So for them, it’s very important to perform well whatever they do.
But, why are those most popular hunting dogs?
Now when you’ve read through our list of the most popular hunting dogs, you must ask yourself why we’ve chosen exactly these breeds. All of the three breeds on our list are very easy to train, especially in terms of hunting, so taking them as your hunting partner definitely saves you a lot of your precious time.
They also have good physical predispositions for hunting – they’re fast, agile, and have muscular bodies, so you can rest assured they’ll be able to keep up with your speed while in the field. One more thing to note is their intelligence and sense of initiative. There definitely are many more dog breeds which could probably make their way on the list of the most popular hunting dogs, but we’ve decided to cut the list to our three most favorite ones.
Even if your hunting partner is not on our list, don’t worry. The most important thing about you two making a perfect team is mutual respect and coordinance. Just make sure your hunting dog is well-trained and that is not exposed to inadequate weather conditions for its physique. Check Dog Breed Info for another good article on most popular hunting dogs
