I had a good AND sort of productive day today. While I didn't get everything on my list done, I did get my readings for tomorrow done, so there's that at least.

I also blew $70 on alter stuff but lets just brush passed that! Tried boba, I like it :)

I'm hoping tomorrow after my lecture that I have enough spoons to catch up in my readings and to type up all my hand written notes from the past three weeks. But that really depends on how much I find in my cutlery organizer tomorrow

Okay, so I did not just drop off the face of the earth!

I've just been super duper busy w/ the first few weeks of school, pair that with having to wake up early everyday now, and with me attempting to be an academic weapon this year; you get a me who doesn't update!

I changed the layout of my diary, I hope y'all like it :)

Anyways just wanted to make a 2-ish week recap to get in the mood of things. Today'll probably be 2-for-1 because I'm going to do some work tonight :)

I really loved this book. I had some background on some of the people that get mentioned in Inferno due to a medieval history class I took as well as a Hellenistic-Imperial Rome class so a couple of the small references didn't confuse me; meaning that your most likely going to see someone be referenced and have absolutely no clue who they are, but honestly even if you don't know it doesn't take away anything all that worth while from the cantos.

I went into this book expecting it to be an annoying read (my mother has a background in theology and she absolutely hated Inferno) but it's similar to me to Shakespeare in difficulty: the language used is a product of the writing trends at the time.

If you read all of Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso it's going to be a really long read. My copy was 650 pages (i think?) with illustrations every so often.

Speaking of the illustrations: In my copy they were made by Gustave Doré whom I absolutely LOVE. If you want to read The Divine Comedy your copy most likely will include his illustrations, so don't be surprised if you end up just staring at them for a while, they are just so cool. (The image in the middle of the moodboard is one of them by the way! By far my favourite.)

I absolutely LOVE Vladimir Nabokov. Like Lolita, I found Ada a pretty difficult (i.e: pretentious) read but that didn't lessen my overall enjoyment of this book.

It does deal with a relationship that's really taboo (incest, which holy shit.) but the romance between Ada and Van is sort of beautiful; if this was not a book on this type of relationship I could easily see it being considered a lovely, slightly disturbing romance. Unfortunately I really could not get over their familiar relationship while reading, it just nagged at the back of my mind the entire time.

But like with Lolita my disgust was worth it simply due to Nabokov's amazing writing.

If you can stomach this topic, the length of the book (my copy was over 600 pages), and willing to have to translate some parts (Nabokov tends to have a lines of dialogue not in English) then I really recommend it; but it may not be everyone's cup of tea and that's perfectly okay!
